justice for raj rasoya - a quick rant about townie makeovers
so i was casually scrolling on my dash and i saw someone playing with the city living townies. i was appalled when i realized that one of these sims was intended to be raj rasoya, a sikh chef living in the spice market of san myshuno. the sim in the post looked drastically different to raj, he was barely recognizable until i checked the tags. i then began looking at his tag on tumblr, and it’s lowkey making me sick to my stomach.
i don’t know why i’m uncomfortable with this, or it it’s just me but it’s so unsettling to see people either white wash, slim down, or remove raj’s turban when they make him over. i don’t understand the need that people have to change raj into something completely unrecognizable because he doesn’t fit western beauty standards. why must we make him have a chiseled bod and lightly tanned skin? why do we feel the need to make his nose smaller and remove his nose bridge? why do we feel the need to remove his turban?
the turban and even the kara (bracelet raj and geeta wear) are both symbols of their faith. it begs me to ask the question, would the perpetrators that have white washed raj do the same to an EA townie that’s hijabi? probably not - at least, i would hope not.
this is weird and lowkey not okay. it’s quite clear that EA intended for the rasoyas to be sikh. why are we trying to erase their ethnic features and backgrounds?
now before you guys come at me, i’m going to say that - it’s your game i’m not policing you - however, i am pointing out how weird and disrespectful it comes across to actively erase the features and religious qualities of townies that were specifically given these identities.
thank you for coming to my ted talk. please let me know if this is just a me issue, i’m genuinely curious to see how other people feel about this. my inbox is open, and i’d be happy to chat. it says my comments are enabled, but people have had trouble with commenting on my posts before, so just shoot me an ask instead!
i love you sims story tellers, sims legacy players, sims casual players, sims cc creators and modders (that aren't unhinged, power-tripping freaks), sims builders, sims fans, sims shit posters, sims render makers, sims edit makers, sims lookbook makers. you all made and are continuing to make lemonade out of lemons and you should be proud of that.
sims four should let u make big muscular women, the sliders rn r just not enough send tweet
“These are just smaller toddlers”
Yes. Yep. Hit the nail on the head, buddy. That is indeed exactly what an infant is.
Honestly besides family gameplay(which we’re getting!) I just reeaallllyyyy want more apartments and another city world.
ea please can we have more apartments!
imagine my shock and horror to discover that a huge modder (zero mods or whatever) is like? hugely fucking transphobic like???
dear cc creators that make jewlery,
i beg of you please make necklaces that accommodate fat sims, my fat sims like necklaces too. also please make nose piercings that accommodate all nose types, it’s annoying when certain nose piercings look wonky or don’t even show up on my sims noses especially ethnic noses.
sincerely,
someone who’s tired smhh

Test ALL of your CC on fat sims before releasing. Use fat sims in your preview photos. Don't thin down premade sims. Practice making and playing with fat sims more often!
me immediately updating my game on the 14th taking no safety precautions and playing with all broken mods
to all the cc creators and modders out there working their asses off trying to fix everything after the update, our games would be nothing without you and i appreciate you so much <33
I cant lie; some maxis match players on tiktok can be so insufferable. Leaving hate comments on my tiktok saying a hoodie with bear ears on it is yassifying babies and infants, because it’s alpha.
Like my goodness. Just don’t download it.
Cannot stress this enough, but gaming spaces are so sooo vulnerable to anti-black, anti-asian, and anti-queer rhetoric, it isn’t even funny, I know y’all see someone making fun of things and think “hahah, that’s hilarious, I think that too”, and I hate to break it to you, but that was the point, the person who’s trying to embed it in you knows about your biases and knows exactly how to word things to get you to not see that it’s bc of your biases. These are the same ppl in your mom’s Facebook group trying to get her to repeat Republican hate speech to her friends at her book club.
I should not have to see Reddit posts with thousands of upvotes of ppl shitting on a toddler sim bc she’s wearing edges that aren’t textured in the same way the ones are in game. I don’t care if you think it’s funny, it’s been co-opted by all the wrong people with only the illest intentions, and the marginalized ppl, esp black ppl within these communities are dealing with the same bs they have to irl, in spaces where they SHOULD NOT HAVE TO.
Stop spreading it.
Yooooo.
Real quick let's unpack this. 1. It is extremely racist to take a word that primarily black folks say and give it a negative connotation; if you say some shit like "yassify" and say it's bad, you are directly taking yassss, a word we say, and turning it into something ugly with a negative meaning. Do not try to tell me that's not exactly what a racist would do. 2. To then throw alpha cc in the mix and call all alpha cc a way of "yassifying" sims is yet another racist and hateful thing to do. 3. To mix that in with sexualizing younger sims is truly fucked. It means you're equating the use of alpha cc with being a total sicko, as if all alpha cc is "nasty and filthy and sexualizing", and because this means "yassifying" you're tryin to tell me it's the black folks who do this....
I'm just trying to show you something. So now that we've unpacked this you can be more mindful of wtf you say... OR you can carry on saying this kinda wack ass shit and show me just who and what you really are, confirming to me that YOU are the real problem.
Alpha skin details, alpha makeup, alpha skin, lashes, and a maxis match skin overlay. Stop playin. My infant is CUTE AS HELL. Shit on alpha if you really want to, but this is a petty rivalry gone bad. Stop the slick ass lowkey racism. Thank you.
I get what you’re trying to say here, but I completely agree with the reblog by @/neverheresims, and in the kindest way, that comparison doesn’t really work at all.
The thing is, when you create content for or from an intellectual property you do not own, it straight up does not belong to you. CC creators are incredibly, and I mean incredibly lucky they’re able to monetize their work. That won’t fly elsewhere, either because of the company, or the community. Unless you’re making fandom scarves, you entirely own whatever you make, and the paywall issue is largely the fact that you don’t own what you make.
Per EA’s terms, everything you make from game assets belongs to them, and anything made from your own assets belongs to them the moment it’s converted into files to be used in the game, and EA has said that anything made for the game is for all the community to use. You do not own what you make.
Now, for my own analogy. I make dice. I make dice largely for those who play D&D, and market them as D&D dice, because this is my job and that gets me seen by the people who would be interested in them.
Recently, Wizard’s of the Coast, the company that owns D&D, decided that they didn’t like how everyone was profiting off their game except for them and was going to implement new terms that made it so you could no longer profit off of D&D without reporting your earnings and giving them a percentage, or just straight up at all. There was a whole lot more to it and I’m not explaining it the best, but had they gone through with that, I would not have been able to market my dice as D&D dice anymore and would have had to remove any previous connections. Because dice and their shapes don’t solely belong to D&D, and the dice I make are not from molds of official D&D dice, I could keep selling my dice, but I’d lose out on a significant demographic.
This is comparable to CC creators who make their own meshes entirely from scratch. If they wanted to have them under a permanent paywall, they could sell them as 3D meshes independent from the game and allow for conversions to the games by the individual who buys the mesh, with or without a tutorial on how the average person can do that. They still entirely own their work that way. But if they want to sell it as Sims 4 CC, they have to play by EA’s rules, and that means it’s not theirs anymore and they can only charge for a reasonable early access.
Now, for the creations made from existing meshes, let’s say someone sold custom character sheets that use all of the official D&D character sheet information, but display it differently. Or someone just took the direct sheet, printed it out, and customized it from there. If WotC went through with their leaked TOS changes, those people could no longer sell their character sheets, because the core of them belonged to WotC. If they wanted to sell them, they would have to change up anything that belonged to the D&D character sheet.
In other games, when you make a mod, you generally know that it’s going to be a labor of love and you’re likely not going to get anything out of it. It’s done because you love what you’re doing, or wanted something for yourself and are okay with sharing it. Charging for it is extremely out of the norm, and you have to play by the company’s rules.
I am entirely okay with a reasonable early access period. To me, that’s 2-3 weeks. I’m not sure where 30 days is coming from, because last I knew EA just vaguely said “reasonable”, so unless they have specifically said that that reasonable is going to be different for everyone.
I am also all for people getting paid for their work. CC making isn’t easy and it takes a long time. I spent three hours removing the stripes from that one fitness kit top because the quality crunch of items makes it near impossible to fix things like that sometimes, and Photoshop also just sucks. Marvelous Designer, which is used by a lot of alpha creators, is also really expensive. But I think there’s other ways to get paid, like accepting commissions for custom items/swatches and then releasing those for everyone. You could also make patterns or your own textures and sell those. There’s ways to earn what you deserve for your hard work while still being kind to the community and not breaking TOS.
Also, EA sucks, WotC also sucks, and this is not defending or supporting either. This is just sometimes you don’t want to be sued.
This is gonna be unpopular... but I'm gonna say it anyway. I don't think people getting paid for cc is a bad thing and here's why: (adding a cut cause I ramble)
Some people knit. Judy gives all the scarves they knit away as gifts because they just enjoy knitting. Phyllis knits scarves to sell them at the farmer's market or on Etsy. Maybe she relies on the money. Maybe she's trying to supplement her income. Maybe her kid has special needs and this allows her to avoid having to go to a job and instead be able to stay home to take care of them... we don't know. Because we don't know Phyllis or her situation. We just see her at the farmer's market selling scarves.
It's important to note that neither of them made the yarn they used. Or the needles they worked the yarn with. However, they did spend their free time making something. The most valuable thing we as people have is time (imho).
Just because you want a scarf made by Phyllis doesn't mean that she has to give you one. She has decided to put her work up for sale and make money for her time and effort.
Going to her booth and telling her that she should be giving the scarves away because she doesn't make the yarn or the needles is the equivalent of telling her that the time she put into making the scarves and the practice she put into gaining the skills to do so is worthless.
It's disrespectful af and just downright unkind.
If you want a free scarf you can make a friend like Judy who will give you one because she wants to. Maybe she's well off and doesn't need the money? Maybe she's a minor and doesn't have expenses? Maybe she's knitting for charity and sees it as her social responsibility? Plenty of reasons why she might knit for free.
The difference with Sims cc is that even if Phyllis needs that extra money for whatever reason. Even if she relies on it for food or medical treatment or to buy her insulin... After 30 days she will be forced to give her scarves away for free, so instead of being able to build up a stock of scarves... she has to keep making new kinds of scarves to maintain her income and anything 30 days or older has to be given away for free.
It's not a perfect metaphor, but my point is that people's time is valuable. People's skills are valuable. If everyone had the time or skills to do what they do then we wouldn't rely on cc creators at all. If it were super easy to learn and not time-consuming to do then everyone would do it. Don't assume you know why people are choosing to ask for money in exchange for their time and skills. Everyone is going through something and the odds are that you will never know about it. Be kind, not entitled.
yall seen this shit? doesn't require much to be a games "journalist" these days huh
I love people posting about their sim. I love super complex and ultra edited pics, I love to see completely unedited screenshots that doesn't even have shaders. I'm warmed up by the love people put in this silly hobby and that they are willing to share what they love with me
I love The Sims so much because it's pretty much a creativity sandbox. It's so exciting to see how others use The Sims as a creative outlet.
Everyday I see others play The Sims in a way that I would've never even thought of, make the most gorgeous vanilla sims and builds, make incredible edits and content, or completely transform the visual style of the game. All of these things coexist within the same community and that is really cool and neat and I love it here because of this
