I’m really glad that Aaron’s self-immolation for Palestine is getting attention, but on November 8th there was also a Congolese man who did the same thing for the genocide happening in the DRC. From what I read in the article above, his fate and identity are unknown but I think his story should be getting equal amount of traction and I haven’t really seen anyone talking about it on Tumblr specifically yet.

what's going on in the congo since there's also a genocide happening over there as well:
to sum it up, people in the congo are literally being worked as slaves to mine for this material called coltan, which is very valuable as its used for things like phones, laptops, just electronics in general. Congo is the number 1 producer for this material and the places behind this genocide is America, Britain, France, and Israel, wow what an absolute shocker. The worst places probably to ever exist benefit from a genocide. These places are funding Rwanda and Uganda military groups, to go into the Congo and kill MILLIONS of people. This has also been going on for YEARS. Many women have been SA'd and men are forced to work in INHUMAN conditions, resulting in their death and the colonizers are absolutely benefitting from this. 6 MILLION people have been killed and half of them are literally kids. Many of the Congolese people have also been displaced.

for anyone who isn’t aware, friendsofthecongo.org/campaigns contains a list of actions you can take to help the democratic republic of congo, including pdfs of postcards you can print and send to a list of tech companies to tell them to stop using child miners AND a letter you can sign and send to your reps (+ potentially incorporate the main points of that letter into any scripts you might already be using for emails or calls to your reps!). friends of the congo also has a volunteer application form and a youtube channel

hi followers this is a scam account/url, confirmed here. feel free to block and please be wary of messages like this. there are a ton of accounts lately pretending to be palestinian and/or in need of medical supplies. make sure gfms are legitimate and that the pp/venmo/etc account name matches the name on the blog! other signs of scams are:
blog is only a few days old
blog has a handful of spam reblogs from popular fandoms to appear legitimate
blog spams unrelated tags (e.g. the pinned here is tagged with 'artists on tumblr' and 'homestuck' despite being a donation request) which is against tumblr tos
donation request pressures with sense of urgency ("i'm down to my last pen")
for gaza/palestine donations in particular, blog will claim to be "vetted" but will not say by whom or give any proof. keep in mind some blogs are imposters of real palestinians w legitimate gfms and hope people will confuse their fake blogs for the real, vetted gfm/blog.
be safe, and if you are in the mood to donate, consider donating to a verified palestinian gfm or a known member of your community in need.
