On The One Acts
so in the spring our school always has this thing called the one act play festival, where students perform the student-directed, student-cast one act plays they've been rehearsing for the past months, and then they hold mini-oscars. the night was lovely.
we came straight from the track meet, which went really well, and then met up with everyone and went to see the show. and oh god they were so good.
i'm going to go about this is reverse order of showing because don't have very much to say about mitch's, other than that for a first-time director the show seemed like a kind of hard pick, but he did an amazing job with it. the cast was solid, and it made a good finale. next was jonna's, in which avery spent most of the time telling me how she was peeing her pants and the entire audience was literally howling with laughter. after months of agonizing, jonna picked an absolutely amazing script. everyone was perfect for their parts, not just the cast but the references were incredible, and i'm not going to lie i just watched leo's face for a solid portion of the time because it was great. it swept a lot of awards, and deservedly so. and finally (but actually first in the show) was the one ryan directed. (i'm going to try to do this with out just solidly bragging about how great my boyfriend is, but i'm sorry if i slip up. it was a good show.)
so the show was about an autistic kid and his interaction with this girl who ends up talking to him. the two get closer to understanding each other, until things go wrong and the kid freaks out and nothing ends well. what makes it amazing though is that throughout this play there is this raised stage/cage thing with these four guys in it representing different trains of thought, who speak throughout most of the show, who are the autistic kid's mid. like they tell him what to do and reveal what he's thinking so you can see the massive confusion in how he interprets everything and it was just so good. i had read the script before and didn't know how it would work out but it came together so incredibly well. one of the most amazing things was to watch tyler, who had never acted before, do a breaktakingly good job of playing an autistic kid. he won best actor, and fairly so. but actually everyone in the cast did a wonderful job. there were definitely tears in the audience. nice job guys.
and then then we went to go get delicious burritos OH WAIT FOOLED YOU no what happened is eric and leo asked their dates to prom and it was adorable and it made sitting through the shows almost a little difficult because i was so excited.
and then we went to get delicious burritos. and froyo. because we have a place for that now. and then on the drive home the moon was beautiful.
thank you all for making me happy. and don't worry maya, we missed you.
