Ten Uses for Amethyst

Yay for cheap, multi-purpose stones! Amethyst is a wicked good healer, but it also has many purposes. It’s such a multi-layered stone, and the more you work with it, the more you find out.

Amethyst is great in crystal grids, because it tends to play nicely with most other stones. It isn’t too fond of warmer colours, but will often still rumble away in the background anyway.

Amethyst eases sleep problems like insomnia, and promotes REM sleep.

Amethyst also improves the quality and memorability of your dreams.

Amethyst aids the memory in general, but it’s very gentle, so useful for easing or recalling painful memories to allow them to heal.

Amethyst also promotes psychic abilities in a similarly gentle way, which is why I recommend it for beginners. It raises you slowly but surely.

Amethyst is a Master Healer, and can aid most health conditions.*

Amethyst is good for relieving anxiety, and warding off attacks.

It is also a subtle pain killer, allowing the mind to ‘ignore’ the pain.

Amethyst is a great protection stone, again really useful as a stand in, or a catch all.

Amethyst can also quietly cleanse a place or a person, and is useful where a stronger stone like Black Tourmaline would be too strong.

10 Crystals For Empaths

Crystals have been used for thousands of years to protect and enhance personal vitality. They have the ability to focus energy and generate minute electrical currents that interact with the currents in the human body and environment. Crystals are an amazing way to cleanse, amplify, and protect one’s energy.

As a highly sensitive empath, I absorb energy from everything. Not only am I affected by the emotions and attitudes of other people, but I’m extremely sensitive to things like geopathic stress and electromagnetic stress. This often leads to exhaustion, irritability, and overwhelm. 

Geopathic stress: Stress created by electromagnetic radiation, ley lines, and underground water. It’s also present in “sick building syndrome”. Injurious to health, it can affect the immune system as well as the body’s innate psychic protection and may attract ghosts or hold impressions of previous events.

Electromagnetic stress: Disharmony caused by the subtle emanations of electrical, microwave, computer, phone and radio frequencies, as well as power lines.

The following list features 10 of my favorite crystals that have been the most beneficial in managing sensitivities and raising my vibration:

Labradorite 

Known as one of the most protective stones, labradorite creates an interface around the aura that filters out energies that are not beneficial and enhances spiritual connection. It allows one to be aware of other’s feelings and emotions without being overwhelmed by them. Labradorite enhances psychic abilities, aligns physical and subtle bodies, and strengthens the aura.

Tip: If you’re prone to nightmares and restless sleep, try holding a labradorite palm stone at bedtime. I sleep with one every night and it has helped me immensely. Just remember to cleanse it in between uses!

Celestine

Also known as celestite, this high vibrational stone links one to higher realms and stimulates spiritual insights. It facilitates inner peace, helps to disperse anxieties and calm the emotions while promoting clarity of mind. This beautiful crystal heals the aura, assists in conflict resolution, and helps maintain a harmonious atmosphere in times of stress. 

Tip: Try meditating with one of these stones and record any insights you might have in a journal afterwards. I’ve been amazed at some of the profound breakthroughs I’ve had while spending time with this amazing crystal.

Lithium Quartz 

This variety of quartz is a natural antidepressant. Its powerful healing energies gently lift the conditions underlying the depression to the surface, neutralizing ancient anger and grief. It can reach back into past lives to dissolve the roots of emotional dis-ease that is pervading the present life. Lithium quartz is an excellent cleanser for the body’s energy centers and is extremely useful as a healer for plants and animals.

Tip: If feeling lethargic or low on energy, carry a small lithium quartz point with you in your pocket. Lithium quartz can function like an emotional battery for those that are sensitive to its vibration.

Black Tourmaline

Black tourmaline, also known as schorl; protects agains cell phones, electromagnetic smog, radiation, ill wishing, and negative energies of all kinds. Black tourmaline is the most effective block to psychic attack and is extremely efficient at absorbing negative energy. It helps one adopt a positive attitude regardless of the circumstances.

Tip: Black tourmaline is super effective as a gem elixir that can be added to cleansing sprays and used to purify the aura.

Rose Quartz

Known as the stone of unconditional love and forgiveness, gentle rose quartz opens the heart and transforms negative emotions into positive ones. It’s an excellent stone to use during crisis or trauma, as it quickly brings peace. It transmutes negative emotional conditioning and supports positive affirmations. It purifies and opens the heart at all levels and brings deep inner healing and self-love.

Tip: Wear a rose quartz pendant over your heart to promote self-love, tranquility, and emotional healing.

Fluorite

A strongly protective stone, especially against electromagnetic and geopathic pollution, as well as psychic attack. Fluorite stabilizes energy and shuts off mental manipulation. This stone cleanses and stabilizes the aura. Fluorite grounds and integrates spiritual energies and assists in dissolving illusions and negative mental patterning. Emotionally, fluorite has a grounding effect. 

Tip: Place a piece of fluorite on a computer or between yourself and the source of electromagnetic fog.

Smoky Quartz

Smoky quartz is one of the most efficient grounding and anchoring stones. It helps alleviate fears, soothes an active mind, and promotes emotional calmness. This protective stone gently neutralizes negative vibrations, absorbs electromagnetic smog, and blocks geopathic stress. Smoky quartz is a powerful antidote to stress and assists in tolerating difficult times while bringing in positive energy. 

Tip: To dispel stress, place a stone in each hand and sit quietly for a few moments. Cleanse the stones thoroughly between uses.

Amethyst

Amethyst is an extremely powerful and protective stone with a high vibration. It guards against psychic attack, transmuting energy into love. A natural tranquilizer, amethyst blocks against geopathic stress and negative environmental energies. Its serenity enhances higher states of consciousness. Amethyst has strong healing and cleansing powers, and enhances spiritual awareness. 

Tip: Place a cleansed amethyst point towards you to draw in positive energy, and point one away from you to dispel negative energy.

Selenite

Selenite is a high vibrational stone that is said to occupy the space between light and matter. It’s an excellent crystal for repairing and re-energizing the aura. Selenite is a calming stone that instils deep peace and is excellent for spiritual work and meditation. Selenite does not allow outside influences to penetrate. A large piece within the house promotes a peaceful atmosphere. 

Tip: Place other crystals, talismans, and pendants on a piece of selenite overnight for cleansing.

Carnelian

An excellent stone for grounding one in present reality, carnelian is one of the oldest known healing stones. It energizes and restores vitality to the immune system. Carnelian promotes positive life choices and immense motivation, and assists one in trusting perceptions. This is a useful stone for overcoming negative emotional or mental conditioning. It calms anger and assists in banishing emotional negativity, while sharpening concentration. Mentally, carnelian improves analytic abilities and clarifies perception. 

Tip: Carnelian placed near the front door of a home invokes protection and invites abundance.

Crystals for Protection

These crystals are some of the best crystals I have found to have protective qualities.

Black Obsidian - good for general protection, I keep a big chunk on my altar

Amethyst - first protective crystal I ever got, given to me by my uncle, protects travelers/people on literal and metaphorical journeys

Fire Agate - good for protection from self doubt/hate

Smokey Quartz - good for general protection + protection from fear, excellent grounder and stabilizer

Fluorite - protects from negative energies and spirits + illness and disorders

Jasper - protects from unbalanced energies + confusion

Black Tourmaline - protects from negative energies by absorbing them

Labradorite - protects the astral/spirit self

Crystals for Dream Work

I often use crystals when practising dream work and find them very powerful when used in meditation or under my pillow while I sleep. They can also be used in sachets, elixirs or to hold when recalling dreams.

Rainbow Moonstone- induces lucid dreams, astral travel, activates spiritual awareness.

Labradorite- stone of mysticism, astral travel, enhances clairvoyance, protects aura, past life recall and accessing Akashic records.

Lepidolite- induces prophetic dreams and lucid dreaming, dream recall and improves psychic ability.

Sodilite- prevents nightmares (make grid under bed), opens third eye

Lapis Lazuli- induces dreams of past lives, vivid dreaming and opens third eye.

Blue Kyanite- enhances psychic ability, spiritual awakening, lucid dreaming and astral projection.

Amethyst- induces prophetic dreams, lucid dreams and astral travel. Keep one near your bed to prevent nightmares, cleanse and charge regularly. 

Obsidian- very protective, prevents nightmares and helps one channel their higher selves.

Blue Calcite- calming, helps with anxiety induced insomnia, clairvoyance and induces prophetic dreams.  

Celestite-connects to higher, angelic and celestial realms, clairvoyance and connect with spirit guides.

Selenite- protects from nightmares and negative astral beings, connects to angelic realms and improves psychic ability.

Moldavite-high vibration *be careful when working with it because it is very powerful*, connects to higher realms, spiritual awakening, lucid dreaming and astral travel.

Clear Quartz-opens one up to receiving messages from higher realms, clears the mind during meditation, astral projection.

Essential Crystal List

Keep in mind, please, that this is my essential crystal list and the way that you feel may be very different. These are the stones that I consider absolute must-haves for daily workings with the craft and virtually any spell.

Clear Quartz

Clear quartz crystal is, perhaps, the most versatile crystal in the craft. A single quartz is able to be programmed to achieve any goal or fill any purpose. Also notable is the fact that a quartz crystal may act as a sort of battery of energy, able to absorb and dispense energy when and where needed. Thus, quartz finds it’s place in every spell, ritual, and even in mundane life.

Jasper

Quick note: Most jasper holds the same abilities, but red jasper is my personal favorite because of it’s ability to balance the emotions and bring inner peace when going through anxiety. 

Jasper can be considered a mother stone because of it’s incredibly powerful need to nurture those who come into possession of it. Jasper balances the emotions, brings tranquility, and inner peace. Useful in spells for love, peace, to relieve anxiety and to bring balance.

Amethyst

Amethyst is, perhaps, the best stone to use for love. It’s greatest abilities lie in helping to heal and bring love within family, harmony, to restore relationships gone stale, and even encourage and teach self-love and care. Coupled with rose petals, amethyst can be a powerful aphrodisiac.

Obsidian

Where others fail, obsidian shows the way. Ultimate prevailer of truth, obsidian is useful in spells to seek truth, and to find and protect your own inner truth. Obsidian is useful in divination as a tool for scrying, or as a pendulum. Because of it’s black, mirrored surface, obsidian is also useful to cleanse negative energy.

Selenite 

White crystallized salt, essentially, makes selenite one of the most powerful cleansing stones in a witch’s arsenal. Place in the four corners of your home to protect against negative energies, or carry with you to help cleanse negativity (emotional negativity and spiritual negativity) off of yourself and reduce stress. 

Selenite is self cleansing, and also may be used to cleanse other crystals.  It also has a strong connection with the Devic Kingdom and may be useful in helping to find your spirit guide.

Labradorite

Gorgeous in the way it shimmers in light, labradorite is a powerful stone to carry particularly if you are an empath. Laboradorite is well known for it’s ability to cleanse and protect your aura. A stone of esoteric knowledge, it can simultaneously protect against negativity while connecting you to the deeper mysteries.

Note: I usually have a laboradorite stone sitting on my tarot cloth during readings.

Lapis Lazuli

An incredible stone with many versed talents, lapis is perhaps best known for it’s ability to increase your psychic awareness and open the third eye. Can be used during divination, in spells to increase personal power, or in healing. 

Lapis also has a lesser known but reliable ability to relieve pain if touched to the area where the pain is occurring. Esoteric Tylenol, as it were.

Citrine

Stone of abundance and protection. Citrine teaches us how to manifest and attract wealth, and also cleanses and protects the aura. A stone also able to manifest joy and happiness, making it a great stone for depression.

Citrine is also self-cleansing.
