Dark Heir aka the book where Will has existential crisis after existential crisis
sorry this is v off topic for me don’t worry I’m just checking whether or not I’m having a stroke - I was in the Keats house in London today and I looked at the guest book in one of the rooms and it seems I may have possibly been there at the same time as CS Pacat ????? what
"It's been too long..."
thinking about Ancel and Berenger again and how my first immediate impression of Berenger was how very much like Mr Darcy he seemed. very prim and proper and orderly, but I was so glad he came to love Ancel even though he was very much not an Elizabeth Bennett (no matter how much he pretended to be in the beginning)
"This one pleaded for you."
A scene from Captive Prince by @c.s.pacat that wouldn't leave my mind since I read it over a year ago.
One of my favourite things about Laurent is how far from frigid and unfeeling he really is. He’s so easily delighted by little things like coin tricks and animals and fancy hats. He tells awkward jokes and likes roleplaying as a cloth merchant and putting flowers in Damen’s hair. And he cares so deeply about his people and his country and will fight like hell to protect them. He’s gonna be the best king Vere has had in a long time
"Hello, lover."
I made the mistake with this one to change the lighting half way through the painting which always messes with the values and colors, but oh well. Sometimes a painting doesn't go the way you want to and then you got to let it go. But I still like the overall comp and all that, so you get to see it, haha. Maybe I manage to be a bit clearer in terms of values with that extra painting that I have planned for this scene, because this scene is just too good to only get one.
Laurent: I have never felt attraction of any kind towards another human. I’m cold, the coldest. I live and breathe for revenge and ruling my kingdom. I haven’t felt a positive emotion in six years. I’m a devil made human. I’m—
Damen: *breathes and flexes his muscles*
Laurent:
Laurent: fuck.
Does anyone know where to get this??
And all my money is gone.
Good job Studio JG 👍
Captive Prince livejournal commentary facts...
(from the chapter 9 commentary of book 1)
1. Vere was called Rabat in the original online series.
2. [On Damen...]
“I honestly had no idea when I started this story that Damen/Damian/Daman/Damon/Daemon is the #1 most overused name in online original slash fiction...You couldn't write a cross-over because it would be like, 'Hi, I'm Damen.' 'Oh hey, me too!'"
“I chose it naively, because onomatopoeically it gives an impression of no-frills strength (with its two strong syllables). And the ancient Greek name it derives from 'Damianos' originally means 'to tame' which amuses me no end.“
3. Jokaste was called Margaret in the original online series
"The name Margaret sounds so English and out of place in retrospect, but it is a Greek name. It means pearl. The Persian version is Morvarid, which I fell in love with, but didn't use because it has too much of an Evil Villainess feel to it.”
4. [On Nicaise...]
“My beta calls him Salad, after Salad Nicoise. The other name in the running when I was naming him was 'Michelet', but I thought Nicaise just had that edge of bitchy flavour that suited his personality”
“In Kings Rising, I got to explore some of his more playful side, partly because his distance from his uncle and his burgeoning trust in Damen meant that he was in healthier environment, resulting in an increase in self expression.”

Damen would’ve been the perfect lover for younger Laurent, that shy, hero-worshipping boy who trailed around after his older brother. But, that Laurent no longer exists.

Drunk Laurent reveals his true self. Laurent’s revelation should be EMOTIONAL rather than sexual, not like making a pass at Damen, more like making an emotional pass at Damen

I 100% wrote Laurent as knowing the whole time. All his behaviors, everything he said or did, always indicated that he knew from the very beginning.
