Cw: gun, betrayal
"I need your help,"
"Well, how can I say no to the lovely individual with a loaded gun in their hand?"
The villain smiled- a brilliant and dangerous thing. Definitely something the criminal shouldn't have been doing when they were at the receiving end of a gun.
The hero hadn't said anything else yet, though they needed to. They needed Villain's help. Hero didn't have much time before the others caught up to them, and if this was the only way they'd be safe, well then-
"Take it." They flipped the gun around so the barrel was facing themselves, the grip out towards the other.
"We don't have much time, act like you caught me. Just don't let them take me. No matter what they say, don't let them take me. Please."
The smile on the other's lips faltered. "What's going o-"
Villain hadn't even finished their sentence before Hero was spun, now with an arm to their throat and the barrel of the gun pressed to their right temple.
Superhero stood at the entrance of the alley, flanked on each side by heroes. They were suddenly glad for Villain's quick reflexes.
"Supervillain is searching for them, you know.” Their former leader remarked. Hero looked over the people they had lived and nearly died beside. People they thought they could trust. Hero had a sickening feeling all of that meant nothing anymore. "You would do well to hand them over. Hero is ours to take." Superhero took a few deliberate steps forward.
"Ah ah ah, not so fast," the villain tutted and pulled Hero back from the super. "I have priority here, their mine."
"Priority?" they let out a chuckle. "There is no priority. Supervillain-"
"Supervillain told me to hunt them down." If Villain wasn't on Hero's side, they'd be terrified by that statement. Villain was a hunter, and one who always caught their prey, at that. If Supervillain had actually sent them... Hero shuddered at the thought and watched with baited breath as the super narrowed their eyes. "I am under direct orders to bring them in. Don't worry, Supervillain will get their prize."
The super opened their mouth. Closed it. Looked at their group. Looked back at the pair. Opened it again.
Their phone rang.
Superhero fished the phone out of their pocket, glaring at the phone screen before hurriedly answering the call. “Yes boss?”
Hero wished they could hear the other half of the conversation. It was their freedom— their life on the line. They needed to know what was being said!
“We’ve found Hero, sir. But it seems Villain-“. Superhero cut themselves off and glared at the hero and villain pair.
“Yes sir.” A pause. “Yes sir, we’re on our way.” Superhero hung up the phone and without so much as another word, the superhero left the alley, their squadron of supers trailing after them.
A tense silence fell over the two. Neither dared to move, in case the others came back, or at least that’s what Hero was telling themself. They waited for Villain to release them. 10 seconds went by. 15. Then 25.
“Villain, I’m pretty sure they’re gone now, you can let me go,” Hero squirmed in Villain’s hold.
“See, the thing is darling,” the criminal murmured into their ear, “I had a mission before I ran into you. Can I tell you what that mission was?”
“Uh, sure?”
“I came out here to find you, under the order of Supervillain. And not even ten minutes later you’re begging, begging me to take you.”
No.
“And now that I have you, you want to leave? Just like that? I’m sorry, but that’s not happening.”
No!
“You wouldn’t-“
“I can, and will. Sorry darling, but your time is up.”
Before Hero could react, the gun slammed into the side of their head and darkness consumed them.
No…
