Dark Matter - Mars Christmas
Now we’re finally starting to get somewhere. This was my first video under the DAЯK MATTEЯ name. I wound up using this song on my debut album, Dark Matter, in 2013. But honestly, ever since I wrote this one I haven’t been fond of it. Everyone else seems to be, though, so I might as well post it!
This one is, as you might have guessed from the title, about spending Christmas on Mars, and encountering a strange figure on the red planet. Yeah... it’s kind of stupid, but whatever. :)

Dark Matter - I Love and Despise You
My early DAЯK MATTEЯ stuff was kind of silly, wasn’t it? This was my attempt at writing a love song despite only being 15 and never having been in love before. I remember we called in a friend of ours, Suzy Bowman, to play my girlfriend in the video.
Shooting this was quite fun. It helped that I had played the song in enough bars around town that it was already a fan favorite, so I decided to release it as a single and include it on my debut album, Dark Matter.

The only thing I wish about this song is that it were more bluesy. For a song called “Procrastinator’s Blues,” there’s a lot of procrastinating in it, but not much blues.

I’m Myself
So this was pretty cool.
In Summer 2012, the people at Light House Studio in Charlottesville offered to make a documentary about me preparing for the (then) biggest show in my life, and I participated. It was finally released in September as I’m Myself. I also wound up using some of their footage in my own music video for the song of the same name. This was a fun ordeal and I’m glad to have participated in it!

This video used footage from the short film of the same name as well as some footage from my live performance at the Cubby Bear North in Chicago. The song features guitar from Doug Campbell and trombone from Larry Swift. Eventually I wound up using this song in my album Dark Matter.

Ah yes, the big concert I was preparing for. They actually flew me out to Chicago to perform at this benefit concert at the Cubby Bear North. Honestly, I’m still very honored that they did that. Anyway, this is the seven-song set I did.

This music video includes my first attempt at doing a green screen. We didn’t have an actual green screen, so we just used a tarp. In hindsight, we should have waited until we got a real green screen. LOL

This music video is probably my favorite because it looks the most like an actual video with a budget. :P

Dark Matter - Reconsider
This was the first single from what would have been my second album, The Industry, a rock opera that unfortunately was never able to be released due to my band breaking up. I’m going to have to re-record it all now with new instruments. Fun stuff! I’m sure you’ll hear it someday!
Anyway, whenever I do re-record it, this will probably be a track I leave out. It doesn’t really play into the story at all, and the only reason I really wrote it was because I loved the guitar riff and didn’t want it to go to waste.

Live at C’ville Coffee May 27, 2015
So I’m adding the finishing touches on my reviews of The Wall – Live in Berlin and One Direction: This Is Us (read: not working at all), but in the meantime, I frequently play at the open mics in Charlottesville, and here are two live performance videos from C’ville Coffee!
First I play a cover of “’39” by Queen.
Then I follow it with a new original, “Jealousy.”
