I made a playlist for Matt! I have one for mello as well, but I'm posting this one first cause I'm doing a photoshoot later.
So here are the tracks and why I added them!
[MOST OF MY REASONS ARE BASED OFF OF MY OWN OPINIONS AND HEADCANONS]
Modern Day Cain [IDKHOW] - I personally headcanon Matt as the type of person to outwardly not care but is extremely observant. He watches the world burn.
I Hope I'm Not Sick [Loveless] - To me, Matt is the kind of person who will suffer in silence and refuse to ask for help. His mind spirals, thinking up different reasons and causes of why he feels the way he does.
FVKD [NateWantsToBattle & Kellin Quinn] - similar reason to the last one- I also just think he's emo.
Kids in the Dark [NateWantsToBattle] - I headcanon that he and Mello were partners in crime back at Whammy's, them against the world.
Drop it Like [Lotus Juice] - Man's Tokyo Drifting in his Camaro. That is all.
Precious [Starbenders] - So this is a cover of a Depeche Mode song- but I feel the lyrics fit how he might have felt when Mello left.
Red Carpet Massacre [Duran Duran] - This song feels like LA to me- where I headcanon Matt met Mello again.
I Don't Want To Fall In Love [She Wants Revenge] - The person of Matt I envision plays bass- and She Wants Revenge is a good band for bass. Also this sounds like something he'd drive to.
IS IT ME [Loveless] - Again. Emo. Or also him coming down from being high. Either way works.
Toxic in You [Palaye Royale] - I feel that Matt has always admired Mello, no matter how angsty he is. Like he'd follow him through hell and back.
I MISS 2003 [AS IT IS] - It's nothing unusual to think that he's a reckless driver- this one is another one I think would be in his driving playlist.
Eleanor Rigby [Palaye Royale] - Another cover, but I think this one would be a backing track to him finding his path before meeting Mello again.
Loose Cannon [Set It Off] - Mett seems pretty chill, but if you hurt who he cares about or take advantage of him, hoo boy. You're dead. Not even a pretty death either. His Camaro's red for a reason.
Playing With Bad Luck [Set It Off] - There are a lot of driving songs in this playlist, I think this one fits his 45 seconds of screen time though.
Nightmares in Paradise [The Relentless] - This song, to me, sounds like him and Mello stalking Misa. Don't know why, don't care to know why.
Love the Void [Palaye Royale] - This song sounds like what would play in a montage of him getting high, coming down, questioning everything while playing Call of Duty, and getting high again.
Swan Song [Set It Off] - Really, this one sounds like a montage of him and Mello stalking, recording, and gathering evidence. Either in his car or in the apartment.
Don't Feel Quite Right [Palaye Royale] - Matt is pretty attractive, and he knows it. Taking the music video for this song into account, I feel like Matt was hit on a lot by random women.
The Great Depression [AS IT IS] - This song just sounds like the New Age of Kira. And it's my idea of Matt's style.
Plastic Promises [Set It Off] - Maybe when Mello called, he was on his last thread with his girlfriend. Maybe Mello calling was what he needed to escape a bad situation on both ends.
Bad Guy [Set It Off] - His last scene. That is all.
War Crimes [Waterparks] - Same reason as Bad Guy.
TANTRUM [Waterparks] - Maybe he was willing to do anything for his girlfriend before the situation turned sour. Maybe he was ready to do anything for her.
Rollin' [Lotus Juice] - Drag racing in the desert. Simple as that.
The Coast is Where Home Is [AS IT IS] - I headcanon he sees LA as home. As someone who grew up in LA, I don't see the appeal. But hey, home's home.
Alone [Sleeping With Sirens & MGK] - I headcanon he has attachment issues, possibly caused by Mello leaving Whammy's House. I think being around people helps him feel less like a lone satellite.
The Wounded World [AS IT IS] - This whole album feels like the New Age of Kira, especially with the music videos with stories.
Sugar We're Goin Down [Fall Out Boy] - I can totally see him as a FOB fan. 10000%.
Death Valley [Fall Out Boy] - This song feels exactly like the video from The Youngblood Chronicles. But he's in a car. A red car.
Props & Mayhem [Pierce The Veil] - Dealing with depression by getting high. With great intelligence come great sorrow.
Bedless [Pierce The Veil] - It could be how he felt seeing Mello again. After five years, seeing his best friend, partner in crime.
The Boy Who Could Fly [Pierce The Veil] - Maybe when he was in a bad situation with his girlfriend, he would go to clubs to escape. Gambling, drinking, smoking. Using his vices in a different environment.
Black Sheep [Palaye Royale] - He was the offset of the Elites in Whammy's. Extremely intelligent but mischievous. Played video games rather than studying. Messed with Roger, Mello by his side.
You'll Be Fine [Palaye Royale] - More street races, I feel racing was a way to make him feel something.
No Love In LA [Palaye Royale] - Just as the title suggests. There's no such thing as love in LA.
Absinthe [IDKHOW] - Matt can be intimidating, even unintentionally. His sharp gaze observing every detail. He knows how to manipulate people to get what he wants.
Mad IQs [IDKHOW] - He knew early on that he couldn't compare to Near and Mello. So he just observed.
Dial Tones [AS IT IS] - He missed Mello like a lung during those five years of no contact. The only thing in common were dial tones.
Empire (Let Them Sing) [Bring Me The Horizon] - He doesn't care about the Kira Case, he's only helping because Mello asked. But he'll see this through to the end. His end.
And the Snakes Start to Sing [Bring Me The Horizon] - The end is nearing, he knows it. They both know it. They're ready to close this case, even if it means dying.
LAST CIGARETTE [MOTHICA & Au/Ra] - He knows he's only there to help Mello. But seeing his best friend again after five years feels too good to let go.
SENSITIVE [MOTHICA] - Matt doesn't get angry often, he keeps his emotions under wraps. But he is always collecting data. Visually, audibly, scientifically. He notes everything.
Party Poison [My Chemical Romance] - If this song doesn't sound like an upbeat car chase, you're listening to it wrong.
Ghost [Sleeping With Sirens] - Maybe his situation with his girlfriend had gone so far astray, that they didn't interact other than arguing. Maybe they both got so high so often all they did was lay boneless.
Left Alone [Sleeping With Sirens] - Maybe Mello kept pressing him for answers of why he's different, why he's like a phantom at times. Maybe Matt yelled at him to leave it alone.
Smoke and Guns [NateWantsToBattle] - Matt went to bars and clubs, just to be around people. He was a regular. Almost every night, a different girl would try to hook up with him. Almost every night, he turned them down.
I'd Love to Break It to You [NateWantsToBattle] - What if Mello would get so lost in his own head that Matt had to shove him to bring him back to the land of the living.
Catch Me If You Can [Set It Off] - Another one that sounds like a car chase. Or just him and Mello sneaking around spying on people.
Want [Set It Off] - Maybe he's distant by nature, breaking hearts before his can be broken first. Noticing the signs of someone crushing on him and adjusting his character to make their feelings dissipate.

Matsuda aimed for his limbs on purpose. He didn't want to believe that Light really was Kira after all.
Matsuda admired Chief Yagami over all else.
He did it to avenge Soichiro.

How come no one was talking about the fact that L was wearing this pretty badass shoes with PROPERLY tied laces during his tennis match with Light

His name is Near and he is the perfect anime character of Death Note for me
You gotta love how soichiro is pretty much resigned to lights toxic situationship at this point
May God give Light Yagami the strength to endure the bullying a thirteen year old is capable of
Remember when Matsuda was like now why did L give Light his personal number when he didn't give it to any of us, actual detectives, what's going on between themmm?
Matsuda knows what's up, I mean he doesnt because he's dumb but he's almost there like this 🤏 close
I think that particular era of lawlight when they were both fake dating each other to each further their own interests should have lasted into perpetuity without yielding any lasting results in the original goal for either party until they're ten years into a marriage with a baby daughter being like if he refuses to drop her off at her recital he's DEFINITELY KIRA
