whats your favorite fucked up trope that you want to see more often (in whatever really)?

This is kind of vague and general, but something I’ve been thinking about lately is the idea of “love that corrupts.” I love a good corruption arc, but I feel like I rarely see a corruption arc that happens because of love. Fear, greed, anger, sure. But love? So often, stories frame love as this 100% inherently good and pure thing, and if a character does something bad in the name of love, it’s decried as “not real love” or whatever. Personally, I see love as neutral. It can lead people to do good things, absolutely, but it can also lead them to do fucking horrific things. And I love that. And I wish more stories played with that.

I want to see characters committing the most heinous acts and doing unimaginably awful things in the name of love. They convince themselves it’s good and right because it’s love, or maybe they know it’s wrong and they don’t care because the love is just so powerful. I want to see characters spiral down a dark path that they can’t come back from because of their love. I want to see their love ruin them or utterly corrupt them.

So uhhhh yeah. I’d love to see more “love that corrupts” as a dark fucked up trope, if that counts!! 🥰😇
