Deltarune’s Message and Purpose
Hey guys! This is my first post! :D
I’m gonna be talking about the game Deltarune.
This game is pretty much a strange mystery and people have been theorizing about what in the world is going on there.
It’s safe to assume that Deltarune is an AU (Alternate Universe), bringing our headcanons that Alternate Universes beyond the world of Undertale exists to be canon.
After seeing a really good theory by MatPat, I realized what this game may be trying to tell us. The story, it’s purpose and it’s message.
MatPat believes that Kris is currently going through tough times in life, due to divorce, and his brother leaving to University. Their family is starting to fall apart. This causes Kris to be distant from everyone else. And the world of the Dark World is just a manifestation of Kris’ life. The “abandoned classroom” is the place Kris and Asriel used to play.
Kris seems to be someone who felt abandoned and alone. To a point that they’re probably depressed. Sleeping a lot in class, not going to school at times, not socializing to anyone else.
Wait... when did we heard about people had these kinds of issues?
Undertale
Undertale was all about making choices to help those in need. These people have their own problems, and we’re given a choice to help them or not.
Toriel lost her children, left Asgore, and was afraid to lose more. She’s taking in children to cope with her loss.
Sans is depressed.
Papyrus is lonely
Undyne is narrow-minded
Alphys has so many regrets (To a point that she might consider suicide)
Asgore has been pressured by his people and killed children, thinking violence was the only way.
And Asriel forgot how to love.
(Yeh, I know. I took them from Treesicle’s video. It was one of the first videos I watched about Undertale and the main reason why I’m a fan of it now)
But there was something... missing.
What about Frisk?
That’s the thing. We have no idea who is Frisk and why they fell.
For all we know, they might’ve just popped out of existence.
In fact, I don’t think Undertale was about Frisk at all.
With everything about Deltarune, I can safely assume this game is supposed to be the opposite of Undertale, once again going against our expectations.
I believe Deltarune is going to give us another message or moral lesson. The exact opposite of what Undertale tried to tell us.
There are things in life we cannot control, but sometimes we’ve gotta accept it. It is how we deal with it that makes a difference.
My dad once told me that in real life, there are no such things as “bad choices”, it is only how we see the outcome that makes it either a good or a bad thing.
I still believe choices matter, but not the kind in Undertale. The choices that can be made is how we deal with things in life. How we deal with the unexpected. THAT is the very thing that matters in Deltarune.
This is proven in the Dark World, where we end up falling into it, and then we’re told we’re heroes of a legendary prophecy. There’s nothing we could’ve do to avoid falling into that world in the first place. BUT it is how we choose to deal with the responsibilities that creates the ending when we leave the Dark World.
But after the events of the real ending of the 1st chapter of Deltarune, I believe that the choices in the end that would give is the ending of game won’t be us. it will be Kris. Because this story is all about them.
The “Choices don’t matter” rule doesn’t just applies to us. Kris’ parents divorced, and Asriel leaves to University. None of these tragedies can be stopped by Kris. It just happens. I still stick with the “Player Possessing Kris” Theory, and if it’s true, you could see how Kris clearly lacks the power of choice to stop certain or to make things to happen. I don’t think Kris did something to split their family (There’s a chance that there is though) and Kris didn’t do anything for Asriel to leave. And I don’t think Kris did anything to allow us to control them.
Kris will learn that what they makes of what happens in life will be the very thing that counts.
While Undertale was a story of DETERMINATION...
...Deltarune will be a story of RESILIENCE.
Besides... It is how they dealt with the whole “being possessed” thing in the ending that might set up events for the next parts of the game...
