Past and future

"Luke? You're so quiet today."

Jessie had been babysitting the Ross family long enough to be able to tell when one of the kids was seriously upset about something. And the Luke she knew preferred to fool around, but not sit on the floor of his own room alone.

The boy winced at the sound of her voice and smiled. Luke had incredible artistry — which, however, was extremely useful for a future professional dancer — and he could easily seduce anyone with his big brown eyes and freckles, which made him look vaguely like a human incarnation of a Dalmatian. But he always smiled at her in a special way, without a hint of pretense. Zuri joked that she had brought her into the house, and thanks to Luke, the girl stayed on for a permanent position. It was no secret that, despite the great amorousness of the eldest of the sons, his heart was surprisingly given only to Jessie. But what to do with such a gift? She never considered herself too beautiful or capable of gathering crowds of admirers in principle. Perhaps this was explained by internal self-doubt.

"Do you remember the good old days when there was no one to raise you?" Jessie asked, noticing the photo album lying on his lap, and sat down next to him.

"Very funny, Jess," Luke responded discontentedly, as if by chance leaning his head closer to her shoulder. "Ask the younger ones that, and they will definitely decide that you are tired of us."

"Where would I go from you?" the girl grinned. "My conscience would torment me. Zuri won't let me go until she comes of age. I myself am interested to know what wonderful people you will grow up to be.

"You know, I don't want to grow up. You will leave, you will have your own life, in which there is no place for four teenagers..." he muttered, not looking at her.

"Luke..." Jessie said, confused, and pulled him into her arms.

Of course, she loved the entire Ross family. And it wasn't just the supposed opportunities to become an actress or earn some money. Despite the sometimes unbearable behavior of her charges, it was hard for her to imagine how life would have unfolded without the guys. Would she have been able to stay in this city at all? Would there have been a good reason? It seemed as if Luke had heard her thoughts.

"And I thought about what it would be like to live with... my blood mother. She... loved me. All parents love their children. But why did she leave me then? What if I wasn't good enough for her?" Luke looked up. There was no mischievous twinkle in his eyes: only a hidden sadness.

"I'm sure your mother had her own circumstances." Jessie smiled warmly, hoping to cheer him up. "Are you happy in this family?"

"Of course! I can't imagine a better family! I was lucky to be with loving parents," Luke replied with a bit of indignation. "Besides, if I had stayed in my blood family, I would be a completely different person. You and I would never have met..."

"I can't imagine how I would live," the girl said with exaggerated drama. "And how can anyone not love you? You're a wonderful child with many talents. A whole world of possibilities is open to you!"

"And among them, there is not a very specific one?.." He bowed his head with the most charming look he could muster.

"They say that love lasts three years. Then you will find out who is really close to you." The girl gently patted his head.

Jessie frankly didn't believe that these feelings would remain in him at least until adulthood. She remembered herself in those years: interests changed rapidly, not to mention sympathies. But that devotion of the boy, who watched her looking for a new relationship, was amazing. Sometimes it even seemed that his intentions were much more serious.

"I already know. I'm sure that nothing will change." And again that loving look, from which the soul became ashamed.

"What are you chatting about?" Zuri looked into the room with a suspiciously cunning expression on her face.

"I’m so lucky to have you all," Luke chuckled, winking at Jesse.

She won't tell about his little weakness. A real family isn't always the one that is blood relatives.

To be honest, I have some trouble watching the late projects of former Disney stars. For example, I have a hard time imagining Cameron as the rape victim in "Runt" or Ross Lynch as the killer in "My Friend Dahmer". I hope I'm not the only one, because it really bothers me.

I really love "Steal Your Heart".

More precisely, it’s not just the song that makes me happy, but also its context. Austin needs a song, but Ally is busy with her career. Everyone knew he couldn’t do it at all. Ally suggested thinking about what he liked. The song was written, success was guaranteed, but Trish was interested in who the song was dedicated to. Dez remembered seeing Austin with several girls. Their old rival accused him of allegedly stealing the song. The case went to court, where Trish, having watched a marathon of a series about jurisprudence, acted as Austin’s lawyer. She asked a friend to perform the song right there, without explaining the reason. The first time I watched it, I didn’t understand what she needed at all.

A moment of irony: Austin sings about the image of a bad boy, although he himself has never been one.

It turned out that during the performance of the song, he didn't look at Ally at all, because he was shy. Later, I remembered that he always glanced at the trio, but not now. And Austin admitted that, yes, he wrote a song about what was bothering him, because he still had feelings for Ally. I know that feeling, but their situation is better.

This never means that Austin is a bad guy (and it couldn't be, because Ross... it's written on his face that he's a golden retriever, and these aren't even my words). It's about how Austin is attached to Ally and just can't imagine his life without her. Ally responds in kind. In the series, it can be seen that Austin wants to do everything for the comfort of his friend. They had a big fight before the finale of the second season, but there were serious reasons for that: Ally didn’t believe in their partnership at all at the very beginning, Austin tried to find another composer when Ally's career took off. I really like that Austin, Dez, Ally and Trish here strive to maintain friendship by constantly helping each other. What am I talking about? Thanks to Trish and Dez, an absolutely cinematic kiss happened. The finale of the second season broke my heart... But more on that another time.

Of course, you can say that the problem is with the "Disney image", and this was justified in the case of Ross, who played a serial killer. I have no desire to watch this film, although I have no doubt about his acting abilities. He can turn into drama, romance, and comedy. I haven't watched the backstage from the set of "Austin and Ally" yet, but from what I've heard, he's the nicest person. Between filming, having time to give concerts with your band is strong in itself. They even performed some of the songs from the series. The actors are shippered no less than the characters.

Sometimes I think Cameron would like to completely destroy the "fabulous" image... Yes, he still has a few relatively "dark" roles (and one of them was before Disney), but from all the same interviews, I can't say that his Disney roles were very different from himself.

The second crossover between "Jessie" and "Austin & Ally" exists. The Vamps performed in one of the episodes of the fourth season of "Jessie", and then they performed with R5 at one of the concerts.

Yeah, very funny, I know.

I'm really glad that at least Austin remembers that he performed in Times Square [from the crossover with "Jessie"]. It's a pity, of course, that he doesn't specify who helped him with this. But that's okay, because Jessie herself never remembered the joint song with that same Austin Moon, at least for the sake of a "cool resume".

And I also recently thought that Austin's character and appearance resembles... the sun. Or a star. It turned out that this song even had this line:

You're like a star that landed here from outer space.

It's really great that even in seemingly crossovers of commercially successful series, they don't forget about the lyrics that suit the characters.

I remembered the crossover between "Austin & Ally" and "Jessie" again. In the clip for Austin and Jessie's joint song, there are literally a few seconds where Luke and Austin are dancing together. For some reason I think these two could become good friends. Both love to dance (and do it brilliantly), both sing. Both are shipped with Jessie-

Sorry, but yes, I'm interested in both of these pairings. I've already been killed in the comments of one of YouTube videos for Luke x Jessie, even when I pointed out that it was platonic (even though all my pairings are platonic). I read a good fanfic about Austin x Jessie, but it’s not in English and it’s not finished. And yes, I still ship Austin x Ally.

And of course, both Austin and Luke are so adorable. Of Cameron's characters, Carlos is the most "golden retriever," but Luke is also at least somewhat of that type. I'd really like to see Luke brag about dancing with Austin Moon himself (funny enough, they actually work together in that fic), or Austin kindly making fun of him for having a crush on Jessie.

I think it's time to clarify my point of view before I start being considered weirder than I am. Since we are talking about Disney pairings here, I will also give examples of the same (mostly).

Yes, again, I ship Luke and Jessie, but there are reasons for that.

I started watching "Jessie" for Cameron, so it makes sense that I'd be more interested in his character. I watched "Game's Guide" the same way.

This pairing didn't just come out of nowhere because we know for sure that Luke is in love with Jessie. For the same reason I ship Conor and Ash, Carlos and Jane.

Age difference? It's not the worst thing in the world. The love/hate trope pairings raise a lot more questions for me (except Penny and Talon, but they never hated each other, their clashes were caused by being on different sides). Moreover, Disney often uses actors with age differences in their couples.

Does Jessie have a boyfriend? He did. In words. My problem is that I'd like to ship Tony and Jessie, but he isn't a good boyfriend. The character appears in a small number of episodes, and if he does, he makes you want to turn off the episode. His jealousy was terrible and I definitely wouldn't want to see my boyfriend throw noodles at my friend.

As for their breakup... Here I can remember Austin and Ally's breakup. Yes, different reasons, but Austin continued to be the best person for Ally, as she was for him. Tony wasn't a good friend to Jessie (movie shooting episode).

Brooks? He was a worry to me. No guy is perfect, and he seemed too good. I'm so glad Jessie didn't marry him.

If we put aside the sometimes weird humor of this show, it's not a bad picture. The writers could have kept Luke's crush a joke for an episode or a season, but it continued until the end. So it was on purpose. Jessie and Luke work great as a team, and I still love the laser tag episode. In the episode "Jessie's Big Break", it was Luke who defended Jessie's honor to the director. The dance in the episode "Punch Dumped Love" makes me smile forever. Luke was ready to quit the dance club when he found out that the coach had only been making fun of Jessie and Bertram all this time.

However, most likely, you still won’t understand me.
