General question, do any of you all play DnD?

Thanks to everyone for your input, I've got a DnD related art project I might want to start up, but I wanted to see what the interest levels were at.

I might have to ask for help on a few technical details from people who know the game better than I do, but that'll be a while still.

Hmmm... I've kinda been radio silent on drawings for a bit, huh? Have a few semi-realistic GF creatures that may or may not be related to that DnD project I mentioned before. 👀

The Dungeons Dungeons and More Dungeons Project

Since people seemed somewhat interested in my hints of a DnD project, it might finally be time to go public with this.

Summer break is coming up, and I'll have plenty of off time from school (how much exactly depends on whether or not any of my summer job applications are accepted) so since I'll probably be stuck at home for quite a lot of that, I wanted to take on a bigger art project.

I really like DnD, even if I've had some trouble getting my friends to play it with me, and remembering there is a DnD spinoff in Gravity Falls (DDnD) I got what was maybe a bit of an odd idea to combine the two:

I want to make my own fanmade DnD supplement with creatures from Gravity Falls.

Sort of a short DDnmD Monster Manual?

However, I'm not that familiar with the more complex mechanics of the game. Art and layout I can take care of, and I've got plenty of ideas for stats and descriptions, but I might need some help from people more experienced with the character creation and DMing to look over what I come up with, help me balance stuff, and come up with descriptions and stats. I was thinking of maybe making a discord server for that, but that's still up in the air.

If you might be interested in helping me out with technical details, let me know somehow (Comment or chat function might be easiest?). If not, I'll be taking this project on by myself. Though, fair warning, getting to the finished product will take a good while. I'm still in the early stages.

So I got a discord server up and running for anyone who would like to possibly help (give tips/feedback, help me figure out stats and stuff, suggesting descriptions, etc) with that DnD project in any way, or just keep an eye on what's happening. That's perfectly fine too. ^^'

So I promised I wouldn't flood this blog with the stuff I make for the DnD project, but I was too proud of this semi-realistic Bill to not upload it.

Quick update on the DnD Project

Discord has been giving me a lot of trouble lately (mainly that several text channels have become invisible for me) so I've been holding off on posting anything there because I was hoping the issue would resolve itself. But it hasn't. So I think I'm gonna have to abandon that server, and I'm going to be using my Tumblr for this project too instead. I'll discuss ideas when I post the pictures, and if anyone has suggestions/ideas they can comment on the posts.

I'm thinking Bill would be able to switch between his less intimidating form and the big scary one and that doing so would affect stats (Higher charisma as small, higher intimidation as big?) but probably cost an action. Any thoughts?

Behold; DnD Ford.

My idea is that he's a warlock/wizard who's trying to find a way to end his pact with his patron (Bill). He first picked up on magic with Bills help, and is far more adept with the warlock spells because of it, but after the betrayal he tried to continue studying on his own (multiclassing into wizard).

He still has access to the (very powerful) warlock spells, but I'd like to incorporate some kind of penalty for using those as doing that increases his reliance on the patron he's trying to break away from. Any ideas?

Slightly tweaked the design, and tried to get more of the body into the image to get a better idea of the outfit.

I forgot to mention, but I think I want Stan and Ford to be half-elves. Partially to explain their childhood as outcasts, partially because Ford's canon DDnD character has elf ears, and partially because half-elves tend to fall on one of two extremes: They don't really have anywhere they 'belong' and therefore either reject society, failing to fit in and becoming lone wanderers (Ford) or put the charisma they've been forced to develop to good use as leaders or scammers (Stan).

Also! Thanks to @rum-and-shattered-dreams and @verysorrytobother for some great ideas on penalties for overusing warlock spells! Vision damage as a debuff wasn't something I would have even considered on my own

Edit: Added the arachnomorph, the beard cubs, and the plaidipus as well. They're not new, but I only think I put them on the discord before, not the Tumblr

Didn't get all that much drawing today, but did manage to get a DnD Stan done (gotta make the version which shows off more of his outfit later)

Not sure if I still want him to run some kind of business narratively? Maybe not a tourist trap, but maybe something more rouge-ish (Thieves guild? Pirate ship? Idk, but he'd be some kind of rogue). Him running some kind of business/organization is a good way to integrate Wendy and Soos. Any ideas?

I think it would be super cool if Stan ran a tavern! And like, he's one of those tavern owners that like "has connections" if you know to ask (and how to ask). He has one of those "don't ask don't tell" policies and he's kinda like a neutral party among all types of travelers and the type that come into his tavern. Like, there is an unspoken rule that everyone knows that if two or more groups have beef, you leave it at the door of his tavern and don't bring it inside. (I hope I explained this well enough 😅)

Heck yeah! I was talking with @ramblesanddragons earlier, and we came up with a similar idea! 😄

He runs a 'totally legit tavern' but every now and again has secret auctions of rare and oftentimes magic items. Some of it is genuinely really useful gear, some of it is absolute garbage and it's up to the players to figure out what is what or get scammed.

And I'd imagine gravity falls is still quite the "weirdness magnet" and thus has a large concentration of different races and alignments. But all of them know the tavern is a neutral zone, and it's best to not start anything unless they want to lose 'buying/selling obscure items with no questions asked' privileges. (And probably get their buts kicked by Stan or Wendy)

Productive drawing day today, got though half of the henchmaniacs I'm planning on including.

Very happy with the rendering, but not looking forwards to having to stat out all of these guys. Oh well.

I was planning on having Teeth be in the next set of Henchmaniac drawings already actually :) but I'm not 100% sure on Lava lamp because I'm not sure if I can make his design look 'fantasy mediaeval ish' enough. I guess I'll just have to see.

(Currently working on a few more pages of the Author Stan AU journal, but I'm hoping to continue with DDnD monsters after)

That could be a really cool idea, but it might be tweeking the design just a little too much... 🤔

Hey! weird question, after you finish the DND project. can others play it? like you host it and go with the story? I think it would be really cool!

I'm going to post the finished project so anyone can play with it if they want to, but I'm not sure I'll host something myself. I'm not all that experienced as a DM, and I'm not sure if people would be interested. You can't exactly run a game without players unfortunately :/

If there is interest though, it might be kind of fun to try and run a one off campaign, and stream it or something? I think someone else might do better as s DM though.
