Anyone who uses social media will know that Depp supporters have also subjected Heard to a sustained campaign of online abuse. Yesterday, during her rebuttal testimony, Heard told the jury what she’d experienced. “I am harassed, humiliated, threatened, every single day…even just walking into this courtroom…sitting here in front of the world…having the worst parts of my life, things that I’ve lived through used to humiliate me…people want to kill me and they tell me so every day. People want to put my baby in the microwave and they tell me that.”
Heard’s harassment also means that she’s isolated. Depp’s supporters harangue anyone who associates with her. Witnesses testifying for her on the case have been bombarded with negative business reviews and insulted across social media.
The hashtags #AmberHeardisapsychopath #AmberHeardisanabuser and #AmberHeardisaliar have been trending for the duration of the trial. Social media hasn’t seen this much hate since… well, forever. War criminals guilty of atrocities don’t get this much vitriol. Serial killers and rapists aren’t on the receiving end of this much poison.
Don’t tell me this is because Heard deserves all the malice and loathing spewed at her because she’s ruined Johnny Depp’s life. Depp’s laughing. Literally. He’s smirked, sniggered, scoffed and swaggered his way through the trial – as has his legal team. A UK court has already found that Depp assaulted Heard – so why do his supporters think they know better? At least the #WeJustDon’tLikeYouAmber hashtag is honest in its bullying.

“She was demonized here,” Bredehoft said. “A number of things were allowed in this court that should not have been allowed, and it caused the jury to be confused.” She cited the different outcome in the UK, where a court ruled against Depp after he sought a judgment against The Sun for referring to him as a “wife beater.”
She said that Depp’s team was “able to suppress the medical records, which were very, very significant because they showed a pattern … going all the way back to 2012 of Amber reporting this to her therapist, for example. We had [a] significant amount of texts, including from Mr. Depp’s assistants, saying, ‘When I told him he kicked you, he cried. He is so sorry. That didn’t come in.”

johnny depp was in his mid twenties (25*) when he started dating a 17 year old winona ryder.
he was in his mid forties when he started dating a 26* year old amber heard.
he was 54 when he started dating a 22 year old dancer (2018).
he allowed his 15 year old daughter to live with a man in his twenties and proceeded to defend said man when the police got involved on statutory rape charges.
he is a violent man (not just towards amber) in general. he is literally back in court next month for punching a man on set. and has a long, long history (that predates amber) of smashing things and physically assaulting others.

But like Amber, I am a human being. I am a person. I am real. Neither one of us deserve to be harassed or attacked for speaking out about our lived experiences. We don’t deserve to have the institutions that are supposed to protect us and keep us safe, used, instead, to destroy us. We deserve to have a voice and to be free to speak out. More than 130 people, including Gloria Steinem, and organizations in the field of women’s rights advocacy and domestic violence and sexual assault awareness have signed an open letter to support Amber Heard, who lost a defamation suit this year brought by her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, for an op-ed in which she said she was a “public figure representing domestic abuse.”
The letter, which was exclusively shared with NBC News ahead of its public release Wednesday, was signed by groups like the National Organization for Women, the National Women’s Law Center, Equality Now and the Women’s March Foundation. It was written by a group of people who identify as domestic violence survivors and supporters of Heard.
