The Dreams Don’t Last, Love

Inspiration: This playlist! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4AtjdcZd_k
Warnings: this is just overall sad. If I miss any warnings though, let me know!
Theme: a sad little thing about waking up from a dream of being with him.
Characters: Dream (who’d have guessed), Y/N
“I love you, a lot. You’re amazing, Y/N.” The masked male ran his fingers through your hair, humming softly, your heart feeling like it may explode. Of course, you felt the same way. You’d never felt such an intense and special love before. This wasn’t something you saw yourself letting go of in the future.
“I love you too,” You eventually answered, wrapping your arms loosely around his middle, resting your head on his chest. From beneath layers of clothing and muscle, you could faintly hear his heart beating, and you could feel his chest rise and fall with his steady breathing. “I want to stay with you forever.”
“I know.”
You both went quiet, taking in each others’ auras, the silence not at all awkward as you do so. The sun was beaming down, little spots of sunlight dancing across your skin as the leaves of the tree the two of you were under swayed with the slight wind. You never would have imagined you would be here with one of the people who had made life more worth living.
You woke up.
Looking around, you noticed the sun-faded walls of your room, and your heart sunk. You sat up, brushed your hair out of your face with your fingers, and frowned. It had felt so real, yet here you were. You gave a heavy sigh to the morning’s silence, then looked up at the ceiling. The rest of the townspeople went on with the day, and all you wanted to do was go back to sleep. All you wanted to do was go back to him.
You threw the covers off of yourself and hopped out of bed to join the day. No matter how much you wanted to go back, you knew you had responsibilities in reality.
𝐋𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 - 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐱 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫

Inspired by Lost You in the Fire by Josh A. and iamjakehill, the reader has changed after a traumatic/life-changing event and Dream is having a hard time dealing with it himself.
I would recommend listening to the song to go with it.
Warnings: overall angst, some trauma talk.
Theme: angst with Dream that will most likely end with fluff, who knows?
Characters: Dream, Y/N
The past few weeks had been agonizing not just for Y/N, but also for their boyfriend, Dream. They had changed and acted differently to how they usually were, and the longer this went on, the longer Dream was starting to tire. The way that they acted out over tiny things, turned away from him in bed, and even small things like smiled a little too much and laughed a little too loud just to cope somewhat better... it made his head spin and his heart ache.
Y/N was sitting in bed, playing Solitaire on their phone with their knees drawn up to their chest as far as they could go comfortably, when Dream walked in and sat at the edge. His partner instinctively looked up, but before he could react, their head dropped back down to focus on the digital cards displayed on the screen.
Dream cleared his throat softly, but Y/N didn’t look up. “Hey.”
“Hm.”
The lack of reply left a soft sigh escaping the male’s mouth. “Alright, listen Y/N. We need to have a serious one-on-one chat. Right now.” He watches quietly as this almost unrecognisable person in front of him sets their phone down and gives an annoyed glare to him. “Thanks. I wanted to actually talk to you about how much you changed because of what happened.”
Y/N groans and looks away, huffing quietly. “Not this again, Dream! I haven’t changed, okay? Even if I did, it’s not affecting you.”
“Yes, it is!” The male runs his fingers through his sandy-coloured hair and shakes his head. “It really is affecting me, Y/N, and you don’t even seem to realise it. Who are you?”
The sudden silence in the room was due to the shock that ran through Y/N. Honestly, they didn’t feel like themself. It was a valid question. “I... I dunno,” They finally said, shaking their head. “Ever since... ever since the incident, it’s felt like I’m someone else, and I don’t know how to get myself back.” They furrow their brows together and shake their head. “Where did I go?”
They felt like they were on the verge of tears, and Dream could sense this, pulling Y/N toward him and holding them close to him. “You don’t have to push me away, okay? We can get through this together, because it looks like you doing this alone wasn’t doing much good. I promise we’ll get through it. Okay?”
All Y/N could do was nod as they broke down.
With You - Dream x Reader

Inspiration for this is With You by iamjakehill. I strongly recommend listening to this song to get into the mood of the writing.
Genre: fluffy little adventure
Warnings: none!
Characters: cc!Dream, Y/N
“C’mon, Y/N! They’re all waiting in the car already!” Dream called to his partner, who was just throwing on a hoodie in a hurry, stumbling out of their shared room. “Jeez, there you are! Let’s go.” He linked his arm with theirs, then partially dragged them to the car that would be bringing them wherever the driver decided to bring them. Sapnap had already called dibs on shotgun, so Y/N was sat right behind the driver’s seat, which was where Dream would be.
Sliding into their seat, they shot Sapnap a playful pout about their seating arrangement, to which the male replied with a nose scrunch and a triumphant laugh. Beside Y/N sat a half-confused George, and on the other side of George was Karl. In the furthest seat back was Quackity, sprawled out and jokingly yelling at anyone who bothered to ask if one of the middle people could move back and sit with him. Although it was an odd group, it was a fun group, and Y/N was excited.
“Everyone ready?” Dream looked back as he got into his seat and fastened his seatbelt.
“Not yet!” Karl was trying to convince Quackity to scoot over still, and finally he complied. Karl quickly pulled himself over the back of the middle seats, landing half on the other male in the back, and half on the seat. After everyone arranged themselves comfortably, Dream backed out of the driveway, then pushed the car forward and sped off.
Once they were out on the highway, Y/N rolled down the window they were sat next to, sticking their hand out the window and feeling the cool air rush against it. It had been particularly warm all day, and the air from the car speeding down the highway was a nice and refreshing change. Dream looked at his partner from the rearview mirror and chuckled.
---
Once the car was stopped again, everyone quickly got out, looking around.
“Yo, where are we?” Quackity looked around. It was a little park, with a swingset, some climbing tires, and some seesaws.
“Looks like a park, dude,” Sapnap replied loudly, nudging Quackity and Karl. “I’ll race you guys to the swings.”
Karl grinned brightly. “You’re on!”
As Y/N and Dream watched the three race each other to the swingset, they intertwined their fingers. They sat in the grass, which had the smell of a recent visit from a lawnmower, and smiled as the three others awkwardly sat in swings meant for small children, trying to see who could go the highest. George was just getting out of the car after falling sleep on the way, and he slowly pulled his phone from his pocket to snap pictures of the three stooges.
“This is really nice.” Y/N rested their head on Dream’s shoulder.
“I’m glad you like it. I just kinda figured that everyone needed a break. We all do so much, and we deserve to take a break once in a while.”
The two went quiet for a bit, taking in all the good vibes.
Well, until the two heard shrieking from George. “Sapnap, leave me alone!”
“I told you not to take that picture!” Sapnap quickly chased after the older brunette, who obviously had snapped another picture to spite him.
Y/N and their boyfriend exchanged a glance, laughing and getting up to go help solve the issue.
They hoped things would never change.
Never Letting Go - Dream x Reader

Remember when Dream said if he did a meet and greet, that he wouldn’t let go until you did when hugging? Yeah, me too. Anyway small writing bit to feed yall while I work on more content.
Theme: fluffy!!! whoo
Warnings: none. If I miss somethin’, don’t be afraid to tell me!
Characters: Dream, Y/N
Dream had finally gotten to the point where he was comfortable and wanted to do the meet and greet he’d talked about in the past. While he made his regular videos and played games with his good friends, and spent time on calls with his partner Y/N, he had been planning this meet and greet.
Eventually, the news came out, and immediately Y/N saved money to go. It would be a fun surprise for the both of them to see each other in person.
On the way to the place that was picked for the event, they blasted one of their favourite playlists in the car, glad to be the only one in it. That was because they were belting the lyrics to every song. They were excited, but also a bit nervous. Mostly excited, though.
The crowd was huge, and loud, and tightly packed together, but slowly the line dwindled down, and Y/N got closer to seeing their boyfriend in person. They couldn’t stand still, switching their weight from foot to foot, jumping a little in place, and any other movements to get their nerves to wear off.
When Y/N was finally next in line, they ran to their boyfriend and wrapped him in a tight bear hug. Dream barely had time to register that his partner, the person he loved more than pretty much anyone in the world, was here to see him for real. He wrapped his arms around them just as tightly, swaying back and forth and kissing the top of their head.
“Didn’t expect you to be here,” He teased quietly, as fans took pictures of the two as they held each other.
“Couldn’t pass up on this opportunity,” Y/N replied. “We can hang out some more after all of this. Go get some food. Whatever you want.”
After another long pause of the two just hugging, Y/N spoke again. “If it weren’t for there being tonnes of other fans waiting to meet you... I would never let go.”
Only One - Dream x Reader

A/N: again with self indulgent stuff lolz. This hurts. Owie ouch fuck anyway this is basically a universe where instead of just. hiding in the toilet... Dream actually escaped lolz
Theme: angst again. If I’m not happy none of you can be either.
Warnings: HAHAHA DEATH AGAIN GUYS, strong language, just very very intense angst rn teehee
Characters: c!Dream, Y/N
The alarm went off, but neither Y/N nor the people they sat with knew what that meant. It came from the prison, right? Honestly, most of the people that Y/N was with knew what they implied. Sam hadn’t told many people.
It could mean something bad, but it could also mean a false alarm. Up until the point where word got around that Dream had escaped.
Escaped? But that prison was so high security, how could he have...?
It didn’t take long for the hushed whispers to become full-on panic. Perfect for Dream, right? Exactly.
He snuck in through Y/N’s window at night, while they were reading in bed. Their cat meowed softly beside them, but that was the only noise that Y/N could hear. Dream had gotten to be pretty good at being quiet, which put Y/N at the immediate lower hand.
“It’s your fault, did you know?” He asked from the darkness. Startled, Y/N looked up, then around frantically. They reached for the chest that held their axe, when- “There’s no point. I came in here earlier and took your axe.”
“What do you want..?” They drew their arm back. Of course Dream would take anything they could use to defend against him. “And what do you mean it’s my fault? If you mean you being locked up, then you’re mistaken.”
“No. No, I mean the deaths. All those people you could have saved, and you let them die,” Dream hissed. “I’m here to send you far, far away. Into your own Hell.” He stepped out of the shadows, the cracks in his mask more prominent from the soft light of a torch.
“They’re not my fault.” They stood to face him, but the soft glint of a sword at Dream’s side made them falter slightly. They knew how this would end. Still, they had things to say.
“If they aren’t your fault, then whose? Hm?” He cocked his head to the side quizzically and pulled his mask up to rest on the top of his head. His grin was borderline maniacal, and his eyes were alight with a fury that Y/N hadn’t seen in a long time. Dream took their silence as an answer. “Exactly. And that’s why I’m here.” He raised his sword to strike.
“You loved me once,” They exclaimed quickly to stall for time. Maybe someone would come for them. To check on them. Someone.
Dream’s stance loosened for a moment, his dulling slightly. He knew all too well that he had. The two had been so close. They’d been a good match once upon a time.
Y/N continued. “You and I loved each other. We... we were perfect.” They put their hands up as a surrender, before they quickly dove under their bed and grabbed a backup axe from a chest underneath. They popped back up on the other side with their axe ready.
“Ah, I see. You plan to kill me instead, right?”
Y/N didn’t say anything, breathing heavily.
“Fine.” Dream opens his arms wide, challenging Y/N to take a strike. “Go ahead, my love.”
Of course, Y/N was foolish enough to try. He didn’t have any armour, so it would be a quick shot, right? Wrong. The axe hardly did anything to him. It barely scratched him.
“Wha-?”
Dream immediately struck the dumbfounded Y/N with the handle on his sword, knocking them to the floor. “I know, right? It’s not even human how little your axe does to me. Lemme tell you something.” He grabbed them by the hair to make them look up at him, his expression cocky and full of pride. “All the torture I endured from Quackity made me tough. The longer it went on, the harder it was for him to hurt me. And now you? You get to die knowing you could do nothing to me.”
He threw them back to the floor and held his sword high again, before letting it drive it’s way straight through his ex-lover.
Tears stained their cheeks. In their last few minutes, they pulled the sword from their midsection, stood, and held onto Dream. “If I die, so do you. You can’t break our spirits from here on out. No more reviving, just natural and permanent death.” They positioned the sword at Dream’s back, and with all the rest of their strength, drove it right through the both of them. “I love you, Dream,” They added shakily in their last breaths, “always have.”
