Elitists - Tumblr Posts

Amen. And can we stop harassing people for not being "punk enough" in general? It's almost as if, in order to be part of any community, you're expected to be the most extreme version to qualify to use the term or something. There's people in this culture still learning and there's people in this culture who agree with some aspects and disagree with others and that should be okay- ESPECIALLY in punk culture. Punk is literally based on being weird, not fitting in, and ACCEPTANCE of those oddities. You'd think if any culture wouldn't gatekeep, it would be us. YET SOMEHOW its one of the most elitist riddled groups of people I've seen! It's wild!

Hm. Might make a longer rant on this later.

Ngl I think one major problem is that people on here and online in general seem to think that patches always have to be punk and they.... Don't

Punk doesn't own patches, people can make them of anything they want.

Just because somebody is making a patch doesn't mean they're a part of the subculture.

Making patches is literally just a form of art like any other

Stop harassing people over their patches not being "punk enough" because for starters that isn't a thing and that might not even be their intention anyways

I'm gonna get "controversial" but I hate modern art, and it's not even because of the art itself but rather the fans of it, they're the most elitist people I've ever encountered and it shows, specially with the "standing next to art I could do" thing going on TikTok

Tiktoker will pose in front of a canvas with a stripe down the middle and say "I could do that, it's so simple"

And modern art enthusiasts will foam at the mouth because "yeah! But you didn't do it" or "well actually 🤓☝🏻 this piece represents *profound shit*"

Like yeah, the blue canvas is painted with a new shade of blue but that doesn't take away the fact that it's a fucking blue square, and people should be allowed to make fun of how simplistic modern art is without being insulted by someone who feels superior for knowing the hidden meaning

Like I love Félix Gónzales-Torres pieces, they make me wanna cry every time I remember them but that doesn't mean that at the end of the day, the pieces look like anything but a pile of candy or an unmade bed

And also, has no one else noticed how in modern art exhibitions they don't have a plaque or something that explains the meaning behind the piece?

It's just the piece in front of white wall, kinda mocking the viewer for not immediately jumping into an intellectual conclusion for the creation
