Society if Fallout 4 began with the Sole Survivor emerging from Vault 111 into a blossoming settlement that has formed in and around Sanctuary in the sixty years following Shaun's kidnapping. The people there fixed up Codsworth after years of disrepair, and are establishing similar settlements around the North West Commonwealth. The region has been rebuilding for the past century, but the mysterious institute is hindering their progress, hence why they've just got north of Cambridge.
