magic

dorlene july event, 334 words, @enbysiriusblack

If she had magic, Dorcas would use it to become invisible every time Marlene entered a room. She was being serious. She was aware that she could use magic for literally anything, but right now, she would only use it for this one thing.

Because every time Marlene entered a classroom fashionably late, blue eyes judgmentally roving across the students who were actually rule-abiding as if to pierce them with cool icicles of superiority, Dorcas’s heart rate would pick up like it was trying to send her into cardiac arrest. The hairs on her arms would spring up to their full, pitiful height as if to salute their Queen Marlene (who was not a queen, what was wrong with her body?), and her skin would break out into goosebumps, and her palms would start sweating, and her cheeks would heat up, dark skin tinged an unbecoming red.

It was honestly a scam. Previously, she’d thought that by being black, at least whenever she blushed it wouldn’t be visible. But no, her flush still succeeded in making her cheeks redder and darker, so visible that it was pathetically embarrassing.

She desperately wished to be invisible. Her body was already tingling with the anticipation of Marlene’s arrival, and she couldn’t concentrate at all on what Professor Flitwick was saying, because in five seconds…

Four seconds…

Three seconds…

Two seconds…

One second.

Marlene was here, and Dorcas’s eyes non-consensually glanced at the doorway. Her body, as expected, went into overdrive. Marlene lazily looked over the classroom, as usual, but then her gaze stopped. Shit.

She was looking at Dorcas. Where was invisibility when you fucking needed it?! Dorcas flicked her gaze away and swallowed, but in the corner of her eye, she could still see Marlene’s smirk. Bitch. Why did she even fancy this girl? Marlene was annoying, and rowdy, and always late, even when she could be on time and—

“Hi,” Marlene whispered as she passed Dorcas, before apologising to Flitwick for her lack of punctuality.
