Flake's Radio Show - Tumblr Posts
I love this about Flake, that you look at him and think you know what he’s up to, but then he’s way more unpredictable.
Looks like a professor, actually was a wild-partying alcoholic.
Looks like he should be calm, actually very anxious.
Looks like he should listen to classical music, actually in love with Meg White.
Looks like he wouldn’t enjoy Emigrate, actually has played it on his show
I doubt flake would listen to Emigrate, not his genre of music at all!
Well, if you ever listened to Flakes radio-show you would know that there is no genre, that Flakes “range” - the variety in his playlists is very big from classic to rap to death-metal and very weird electronica, you name it, Flake has played it. I think in general Emigrate is something Flake can digest very well. I could not say that its his favorite music that he can not stop listening, but its something he can appreciate and value, because its something his friend did with a lot of passion and that makes its important for him. So he would definitely listen to Emigrate more likely than a random American rock-band.
Edit: I think its important to add that Flake has played Emigrate in his radioshow on two occasions i think? @notafraidofredyellowandblue help, once i think it was when topic was solo projects and other time.. well that was more recent...
Flake's podcast - Cars
published 2021-11-24 (but probably already sooner)
Cars or 'Autos' in German is ofcourse one of Flake's favorite topics, although he drvies pretty bad himself, he is both a slow and unsure driver, 'like a pensioner' (not the first time he made that comparison, he probably hears it from his kids all the time 😁), he mentions he's perfectly happy if his wife drives, because she's a much better driver than him.
Several mentions of bandlife, at abt 0h13 he tells the story about the band being awarded a gold record and they had to go to Hamburg to get it. Someone (Flake thinks it might have been him) suggested they'd take a limousine to go there, because he thought it would be nice to impress the neighbours a little bit. That kind of failed because they left in the middle of the day and the neighbours weren't home 😊 The limo turned out to be cramped anyway, because apart from the band, their manager and singer Bobo also came along, so they were all sitting on the two bencheas opposite eachother and kept knocking their knees together.
Flake also mentions that smoking in a car is particularly nasty, the first cigarette is okay, but the next ones make the air really stale, fortunately (his words) there were always a lot of smokers in his bands, and when they all smoke, you don't notice the smell as much. During Die Firma there was a time that Paul had quit smoking, he took a gasmask with him in the bandcar and hung the end of it outside the window.
Most surprising revelation at 1h32 (brace yourselves), is that there is something he doesn't like of the GDR: the Trabant car. He never liked it, doesn't like the sound, reminds him of nastiness, poverty, broken stuff, unpleasant people. A Trabant is not his thing. 🚗
