Animation rant. if u even care
Y'all help me out here, why are so many flash-animated shows so ugly? I used to think it had smth to do w the art style (eg Big Mouth) but then i watched q-force, which the character designs are so nice and clean, BUT THE ANIMATION QUALITY IS ASS ???? Is it abt the keyframes/frame rate???? does it have to do w the #/experience of the animators??? or are there other ways to animate in flash outside of using builds/building and using rigs?? Ive been researching for hours and barely have any answers as to why mlp/equestria girls and q-force have such drastically different animation quality despite using the same exact software, unless different versions of flash are a thing ???? animation community I Need Answers. pls and thank u <3

continuation to yesterday's post. here's all the stuff i've made in flash (that survived. i delete half the stuff i make because it SUCKS!!!)
the audio (which was a test anyway) is missing on the back away one as i'm too lazy to go into settings and set my flash version lower than 5 so it can export to .mov. i'll drop the swfs if anyone (no one) wants them though
i know the first one looks stupid as hell believe in me guys i'm learning guys guys believe in me TRUST

As shown inside, 2D animation kinds (flash, puppet, or otherwise) can be as lively & vibrant as 3D animations, sometimes more so. That said, 3D animations can still age well even if not particularly lively.
when ppl say flash animation pretty much always what i can tell they’re actually thinking of is what is referred to in animation practice as puppet animation, which i agree sucks like 90% of the time (there are a FEW shows that use it very masterfully, like homestar runner and one i’ll show later, though)

the funniest part is that most puppet animation isn’t even done in flash anymore. people use after effects instead because it has MUCH more sophisticated and useful tools meant specifically for puppet animation.
the technique can be used well, however. my little pony does it so fluidly it looks practically seamless.
homestar runner doesn’t focus nearly as much on fluidity, but instead on constructing strong, expressive key poses and making every frame really count.
puppet animation isn’t even limited to digital mediums. in fact, it’s not new at all.
the adventures of prince achmed is the world’s oldest surviving feature-length animated film - that’s right, predating snow white by over 10 years - and it was done entirely using puppet animation; black paper cutouts atop illuminated backgrounds. and it’s truly fucking breathtaking.

So tomorrow I'm planning on streaming some more flash animation, to finish some old projects, and thought to leave you with this thing I had to do for my dynamic image class at college. Nothing fancy, but fun enough.
I may need to clean this up this weekend... And add a shield to her strawberry sword...
