Okay I got you pal! The short answer is yes, there is a reason that MC comes around to trusting Cael again.

Now for a brief and spoiler free explanation on why and how that happens. There's a few short stories of sorts that will unlock after you successfully finish Godheim. The first one is a story where MC returns home and confronts Cael. In this story he explains the reason behind his actions and how his relationship with MC and her family came to be in the first place. He then admits he will be leaving the academy so that MC can finally be allowed to become her own person without him influencing her. He's still around sort of, he keeps tabs on things enough to come around should MC need help, but other than that their previous relationship where he was her mentor and/or parental figure is totally dead.

Then there's a second story which shows MC's adventures in Godheim from Cael's POV. This does a lot to help the players understand why he did certain things and also explains some stuff about MC's mysterious powers and Cael's own abilities.

Other than that there are three different illustras stories currently available in-game which work on bridging the gap in MC's relationship with Cael and get them emotionally to a comparable level as the other MLs. The first story set is called Mind Games, it's the chess themed set of illustras. That one takes place before Godheim for a few chapters about the other MLs and then after Godheim for at least the last chapter about Cael. It's mostly MC's feelings on the situation with Cael at the point where she was still in Godheim and likely takes place during Lars' route.

The next story is called A Familiar Face and actually tackles a lot of MC's past with Cael. I won't say much more about that one, but it's an interesting read. After that there's Stars and Rainbows, this one takes place a bit after Godheim and after MC and Cael have separated. You'll again have to read this one to figure out what's up but very basically this is the start of their new relationship, they are on almost equal footing at this point.

There's a new card that has a special banner running right now as well with a very interesting illustra story attached. It takes places after the newest event and if you're a Cael shipper it's a fun one, this is the story that I feel finally sets him up properly as a LI. It's also obviously pretty important to know his full development and story but I won't mention anything else about it.

So, I am doing my best to not get spoiled by anything from how far ahead the game is in China, other than the gorgeous art. But I need to know something about Cael. Right now, to me, he is sketchy and just a ball of red flags. Like, he's on the short list of least favorite characters at this time. And at this time, I see this as we are supposed to be feeling based on how the MC untrusting of him as well. But like, does this ease up once he becomes an actual LI? Does something redeeming happen? I don't need full details, I just need a glimmer of hope that things will change.
