prompt: reader tracing the scars on jamil’s back and arms and kissing each one of them softly.

“you’re so beautiful,” you whisper as jamil bares his back to you, hunched, looking weak and small and in need of protection, protection you were willing to provide. jamil sighs as he shuffles on the edge of his bed, the silver glow of the moonlight shining on his tawny skin. “‘m serious, jamil. you’re beautiful.” 

“i know it’s something you’ve heard too many times, and i’m so sorry to be so generic,” you continue as you place a warm hand on his cold back, and you smile as you feel jamil relax into you. “but you are so beautiful, and i don’t know enough words to describe how you look to me.” 

“i- i really don’t know how to feel about that, [name].” 

“bad memories of that compliment?” you murmur against his skin, kissing his shoulders as you trace the scars on his back gently. “how did you get so many scars? you were a child. you still are. 17 is not old enough to look like this and be able to smile.” 

jamil doesn’t answer, and you don’t bother to pry. he will tell you when he’s ready, you suppose. in the meantime, you'll do your best to support him and make him feel loved. 

“because my love for you in higher than words, i have decided to fall silent.” you murmur after a few minutes, jamil humming. “it’s a poem from my world in your tongue. the poet was nizar qabbani.” 

“i feel the same about you.”
