I do think it would've been interesting if instead of "No augments allowed in Starfleet. And the fucked up conversation about augment rights at Sisko's dinner party later on would take on extra meaning if Starfleet really had kicked Julian to the curb.

Bonus points if it was Bajor that took him in and Julian "Frontier Medicine" Bashir was really forced to reckon with being a political refugee and the ways his society is more dangerous for him than one he initially viewed as less fully capable

fuck this woulda just added another layer that woulda been so good always felt like the resolution here felt very cheap and shallow but the way it woulda really tied a bow on his story with regards to the augment thing woulda been masterful but so much of whats good about ds9 is fuck sf fuck the fed theyre no better than anyone else but they do it with a smile the opress with a smile. its insidious. you dont even know youre a conqured people till its too late and then maybe he would actually come to terms with that and that hateful ass convo woulda not read as so normal or understandable to him
