This is ✨Biggens✨, he is...silly
And continues to fall off the roof of the tank and hit the only slightly hard area, which was a rock mostly covered in moss. He fell on it, hit it, was down for a few days, got back up, I fed him a bunch, all good.
Then he did it again...but this time, he was in an eggshell...and fell
I believe he's ok, here's a pic of him devouring a banana with eggshells on it.
However I wanted some other snail lovers opinions because his shell gets whiter and whiter.
It was already white when I got him (a friend of mine found him in my yard and handed him to me) but I've removed the rock and re adjusted the big egg so if he falls he's at least on dirt.
He's definitely healing tho, since he's been moving around the tank a lot more! Still worried for him tho
:(
(he's Abt the size of my thumb, he is smol...but biggen)
Pic from when I first got him
Bug tour part 2: My snails, millipedes, and velvet ant.
I will start with the millipedes
I have 2 N. americanus who live in a 6.5 gallon tank. They are named Solis and Amarus. Since I put them into their large tank, I've only really seen Amarus which makes me think Solis is molting.
Part two is my snails, they are both garden snails.
This is Fleur, my smaller garden snail. She spends most of her time burrowing so I do not see her as often.
This is Aster, my larger garden snail. She spends most of her time roaming around above the soil. She also laid a clutch of eggs and I froze all but 3 and I'm hoping the 3 hatch out.
Last critter I will show in this post is my velvet ant.
Her name is Crimson. Velvet ants are not actually ants but solitary wasps. She loves to nap in one specific crevice in her piece of wood (shown in image).
I will make one more part of my bug tour, featuring my ants.
Not good photos but there's little white bugs all on my snails and in the dirt but I don't know if it is springtails or a problematic bug that can harm the snails
Anyone know if the little white bugs on the snail are springtails or not?
Snail dinner tonight is carrots, spinach, and fish flakes
The reason I give them a decent amount of food is both so they have variety in their diet and because I don't check on them every day and wanna make they always have food
This is giving me the sudden urge to raise garden snails
more things i’ve discovered after 2 years of raising garden snails:
- they will wiggle their eye stalks in excitement - they have favorite places to sleep and favorite friends to sleep with - they’re good for your skin so let them run around on ur face!!! - they can feel their shells, which means they can feel u pet them (pet gently!!) - u can help a snail with a broken shell by giving it eggshells or cuttlebones to scrape (the calcium helps them patch up!) - they like a change of scenery and will explore all day if u change something - absolute cuddle bugs. love to snuggle with u, with friends, with dirt - u can hear them chew!! listen closely when u feed them….. asmr - as distinct as snowflakes, every single one is different!! i can tell all of my snails apart easily - babies. absolute baby children - speaking of babies, baby garden snails are no bigger than raindrops and translucent… delicate!! keep in a separate enclosure until they’re bigger!! baby jail!!! - some snails are shy……… kiss them. they are important
