My own reimagining of the Triumbric stones and Eclipse armor
It's been a long time since I posted something original. For this post, I wanted to overhaul the Triumbric stones' powers (specifically, what the individual stones give) and rework the Eclipse armorâs power. I was inspired by a post by @az-daniels-yeeter where he talked about his headcanons about the Triumbric stones and it's cool.
For starters, letâs talk about the Eclipse armor in this rework. While the daylight armor (or Trollhunter's armor because I donât think it's ever really referred to as the daylight armor in the series) is made from daylight, the Eclipse armor is made up of sunlight, the pure concentrated energy of the sun. Some of you might be thinking, âWell, whatâs the difference between the two?â my answer is that sunlight is stronger. What I mean by this is that the daylight energy that comprises the daylight armor turns trolls to stone, whereas the sunlight energy that comprises the Eclipse armor legit burns them to ashes; just one nick on the tip of your finger from the eclipse blade can incinerate an average trolls arm.
Another difference between the daylight armor and the Eclipse armor is that any weapons manifested while the Eclipse armor is active can petrify a troll as if it were the sword of daylight. If memory serves me right, weapons made with daylight in the show does have the same effect as if it was the sword of daylight, yet it was circumstantial. If it's circumstantial, then itâs unreliable, and it leads me to believe that weapons made with daylight arenât as powerful as the sword of daylight.
I donât think we ever got a legitimate reason why the sword of daylight can not kill Gunmar in the show. So the reason why Gunmar canât be killed by daylight in this overhaul is because Gunmar is so incredibly powerful. Attacks from the sword of daylight are like cuts, and the resulting petrification is like small bruises that his natural healing factor can make it go away. On the other hand, Sunlight affects Gunmar the same way daylight affects an average troll.
Itâs a power creep, I know. But that doesnât mean it comes without any risks. Just because the Eclipse armor doesnât affect the Trollhunter who wears it doesnât mean itâs harmless to others. The Eclipse armor constantly builds up Sunlight energy as it has less control over how much energy is produced unlike the Daylight armor, and if that energy is not used to conjure and strength a weapon, the energy will build up in the armor to the point where it is dangerous for others to touch the armor, and then to a point where it will start to burn the wearer. In order to combat this while still wearing the armor, the wearer has to put energy into the weapon. This in turn strengthens the weapon. However, if not careful, the armorâs durability will weaken, and it takes a bit longer to regain that energy as a-pose to when its conjured.
Now, itâs on to the Triumbric stones. First on our list is the birthstone. The birthstone boosts the Trollhunterâs durability and healing factor. âGiftâs the wielder the skin of Gunmarâ if you want to be short and cryptic. The killstone gives the Trollhunter an incredible boost in strength.
Now, itâs time for the Eye of Gunmar. I put more thought and effort into this than the other two stones (evident on how short the last paragraph is). The Eye of Gunmar gives the Trollhunter the powers of Gunmar meaning that who everâs got it can absorb a heartstoneâs power. With that much power of a heartstoneâs energy, you could heal from fatal wounds, or regrow parts of the body. However, the bigger the part of the body is missing, the longer it takes to regrow it, unless you use a whole bunch of the heartstoneâs energy to hasten the process, but then youâd be burning up that energy. The eye of Gunmar can also give away heartstone energy to heal and revitalize others, or to overload a person by giving them more energy than they can handel, sort of like how Gunmar almost exploded Dictatious in the heroâs forge in season 3. It also holds residual traces of his memories and instincts, allowing one to fight like Gunmar.
The Birthstone and Killstoneâs abilities are passive and activate when the Trollhunter dons the armor, whether that be the normal Daylight, Eclipse, Moonlight, ect. The Eye of Gunmar, on the other hand, activates as a reaction to the userâs animosity, anger, and/or survival instinct kicking in at the current moment and deactivates when the user has calmed down. When this happens, there is a sunburn that appears on the area of the userâs right eye in the shape of the Eye of Gunmar when it was chiseled, signifying that it is now active, fading away only when the user has calmed down. Depending on how long and how much the Eye of Gunmar is used, the sunburn could get worse. While the Eye is in use, the users own anger and animosity is amplified, throwing away their own morals. It doesnât matter if their just training or sparing, or if someoneâs begging them not to kill them, they wont stop attacking until their opponent is dead. Unless a loved one intervens and talk some sense into them.
The Eye also connects the mind and souls of both Gunmar and the wielder, allowing them to feel what emotions he feels or would feel, and see what he sees. In order to see through Gunmarâs eye, one would need to be in a state between anger and frustration, and calmness, sort of like how you would try and calm yourself from frustration, along with having your eyes closed. What was just said, can also be reversed. As in how Gunmar could feel what the wielder feels and see through the wielder's eyes. Though the part where he would see through the wielderâs eyes can only happen if the Eye of Gunmar is still active, and relaxing with his eyes closed (though I kind of think he would just pace around to calm down).
This type of connection is very dangerous, as the soul is at risk of being corrupted by Gunmarâs own evilness, making the wielder act more and more like him, making it harder and harder for loved ones to calm the wielder down. If itâs not dealt with while the corruption is still small, then the soul will be permanently tainted and canât be purified. A good, and only, visual indicator for how much the soul has been corrupted is how bad does the sunburn mark on the area of the right eye. If the mark looks like a type 1 sunburn, then the corruption is small and can be cured with minimal to no damage to the soul. If it looks like a type 2 sunburn, then the soul can still be purified with minimal damage to the soul. If itâs a type 3 sunburn, while it still can be purified, the soul will have some noticeable damage to it. If the mark is a type 3 sunburn and fades to a type 1 when the Eye is inactive, most of the soul has been corrupted and nows the time to really seek out a master wizard for help. Type 3 and fades to a type 2, itâs time to put them down. Type 3 sunburn and stays that way after the amulet has been taken off, you should have killed them when you had the chance. If the mark is still a type 3 sunburn, but now the eyelids are now colored burnt black, the sclera (white part of the eye) is black, the iris is a ghostly blue that emits a flame with the same ghostly blue color just like Gunmars. Congratulations, youâve got a new Gunmar on your hands to deal with.
Welp, that was my overhaul of the triumbric stones and the Eclipse armor. Let me know what you guys think.
Like father, like son. As Bular would say.

Scene Reimagine

What if Jim defeated Gunmar the same way as Bular?

Using Gunmar as a general reference for those who have just horns and no visible ears, I tested my hand at theoretical anatomy.Â
Depicted is both the internals of a horn and itâs organs. In my mind those âearlessâ trolls have slits rather than true ears. Where the largest horns reside closest to skulls, a narrow slit acts as a non-motile ear - similar to certain reptiles. There are further openings on the rear of a trollâs horns that act as rear sound capturing vents that direct sound into a trollâs dominant auditory canal.
We were robbed of Jim interacting with Gunmar and Bular while not fightning them.
Also little troll Jim gives me life, thank you.
Fixed itđ
(Not my best work)

I would have like to see Troll!Jim interact with Bular and GunmarïżŒ in wizards. Really wanted jim to see Bular as an older brother or Gunmar as a father of some sort.
(yes, I know Dictatious was not by Gunmar side at the time, but feels right to me)

^tags from the og post because yes
Bular: Me and my father have a healthy relationship. We both care for each other, try to communicate, and he trusts my judgement. Jim: My dad walked out on me and I would kill him on sight.
there are two kinds of people in this world--
I can honestly see Gunmar and Bular looking like this if they were turned to human. These human designs are great, I especially love Bular's design.

Ah yes. Turning trolls into humans for funsies in between work!
Iâm not very comfortable with the possibility of negative racial stereotypes in making Gumm-Gumms dark skinned⊠so here, have a viking warlord and his shitty cant-grow-a-beard-to-save-his-life son. Both of them probably need a bath.
God this is so adorable. I love Gunmar's little blep, it's cute.

a real quick scribble cuz i couldnât resist drawing tiny bular and gunmar together

Gunmar:Â âBular is dead! My son is no more! The Trollhunter is now my new son!â
Jim: âWaitâŠwhat?â
Gunmar:Â âLetâs go play catch and bury our true feelings deep inside like men, never to see the light of day except when they have mutated into murderous rage!â
Jim:Â âI already have a father figure. Heâs kinda shit but at least he isnât a genocidal maniac.â
Gunmar:Â âSilence! We will now perform the Barb of Queue! No son of mine will eat anything but the charred flesh of human meatbags.â
Jim:Â âIt says something about how bad those eggs taste that Iâm seriously considering taking you up on that.â
A little sneak peak at the first chapter of my fanfic
The path Duncan was treading was filled with rocks and glowing gems, the ground was covered in mist. The path winding and twisting, the environment becoming more and more distorted and eerie. It always leads him to the same end.Â
To a castle that was made from death. People all around were hanged. Yet none of this scared Duncan, he kept that blank expression on his face as he walked the rocky bejeweled path, leading him to an arena and a throne room all in one.
There sat a large beast, with coal for skin, and horns that are like the devils. He held a large jagged sword in one of his hands. The beast rises from his throne made of bones and walks down a set of steps, its left eye bursting into a blue flame. Once at the bottom of the steps, the beast stood in place, towering over Duncan. He reaches his hand out to him, and Duncan does the same.
The beast pulls Duncan into an embrace, his sword dissipating in a blue mist as he wraps his arms around Duncan, who feels his life being drained away. Despite this, he felt at peace. It felt so comforting in these arms.
âGood Morning Arcadia Oaks!â
Ok so I was just fooling around on one of those "what your name says about you" type sites. One of those was like a gacha thing. So I decided "Let's be funny and type Gunmar." I was not expecting this to be the result:

But I ain't complaining, my gay heart loves me some big, hot, mean-looking, monster men, and I would love to see them in revealing/teasing clothes too.

Baby Bular at his âneed to chew everything and anythingâ phase and Gunmarâs tail is often itâs main victim
