A water shrew hops off a branch into rippling water.
The water shrew forages among leaves at the bottom of a river, while a crayfish darts out of its reach.
The water shrew approaches a bare branch underwater and blows two tiny bubbles out of its nose to sniff for prey.
The water shrew approaches another branch underwater, blowing more bubbles from its nose and detecting a dragonfly nymph nearby.
The water shrew uses its teeth to grab a dragonfly nymph off of an underwater branch and paddles its legs quickly to rise upwards.
The water shrew finds a crayfish in the leaves underwater and quickly grabs it with its teeth, then turns and paddles upwards.
The water shrew sits on grass beside the water, chewing its food and grooming its face with its front paws. It is extremely fat and adorable.

As the smallest diving mammal hunting for this water shrew lasts only a few seconds, but their technique underwater is remarkable. Their eyesight is poor so they rely on foraging along the bottom to find movement with their long whiskers. To find stealthier prey they have the rare ability to smell underwater. By blowing tiny bubbles of air they can detect scent particles in the water. Nature on PBS
