the thing about bo burnham's inside is that. you as an audience are the horror that both tantalizes and terrifies the protagonist. the comedy is horrific because the world is horrific and you are the one who keeps on watching. burnham talks repeatedly about performance anxiety, about hating his work, about capitalism and burnout and wanting to kill himself and through it all he keeps working on his performance, a performance that desperately begs you to stop watching even as it compells you to keep going. you are not supposed to be watching this. you are not meant to be here. please stop watching because i don't want to be here, i'm making you laugh because it's the only thing i know how to do, it's the only thing i love doing, but you shouldn't be watching this. i am not more important than the horrors of the world right now. you have to stop watching. you have to stop watching. you have to stop
