I think it's really cool that Gale is so insistent on taking you into the weave to make love for the first time. It's so romantic and personal and probably has nothing to do with putting himself directly in Mystra's line of sight because of his pathetic desperation for her attention

going through the plot with the lens of 'everything gale says and does is for mystra's attention' is so much fun actually
especially the canon moments! like the statue/altar commentary and the shadow weave bit
im not saying he's manipulating [PC] into liking him to get back at mystra per se. but
he'd be a little 'suck it' about it
and her attention is about more than romance. she wouldn't even tell him face to face about her expectation of him
so I think this is one of the many moments he's kinda challenging her to face him
