New Features
Add Friends
Add new people you meet (or those you already know) as a Friend! New friends will be added to your Friends List off of your profile. You’ll also be able to tell when they’re online or offline by the status indicator next to their profile icon.

Interested in learning more about a specific feature on Here, or just want a basic refresher? Check out the new Tutorials category on the template selection screen (under the Popular category). You can learn more about using Photo Booth, setting start views, and sharing your screen!

Most Popular: Bedroom with Dogs Created with the Here community, the Bedroom with Dogs template was an underdog ba dum ts among our rooms. What started out as a simple little room quickly became one of the most popular among Hereizens for its cute, pink aesthetic, poster decorations, and, of course, dogs. 🐕
Hidden Gem: Jellyfish Vibes There are a lot of reasons to love Jellyfish Vibes. Ours has to be the animated gif background of jellyfish that makes you feel like you’re actually underwater! It’s like being in an aquarium without leaving your house (plus, they’re just so mesmerizing.) Other templates have gifs for the background so keep searching and find them all. 😉
Editor’s Pick: The Weeknd Concert One of our newest rooms is dedicated to The Weeknd, featuring their music videos to jam out with friends (or solo like me!). What we love so much about this room is the neon background and stage. Entering this room makes you feel like you’ve been absorbed into a rave in all the best ways.
For Anime Lovers: Mitsuri’s Room (Demon Slayer) Are you as sad as we are that the second season of Demon Slayer has ended? We’ve been re-watching every episode in Mitsuri’s Room — dedicated to the love hashira. Now excuse us while we play the opening theme on repeat.
Retro Gaming Fans: Pacman Room This room is for all the classic gamers out there. Where better to challenge your friends to a game of tic tac toe or four-in-a-row? The Pacman Room comes outfitted with multiple Pac-men and ghosts. For the hardcore fans, you can add some barriers to the Pacman maze and try to avoid the ghosts yourself.
For Saturday Morning Cartoons: Grim Reaper’s Room Grim Reaper’s Room is based on the early-2000s Cartoon Network show, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. While some may prefer The Powerpuff Girls, our Grim Reaper Room goes out to all the emo kids.
Bonus: Sumikko Gurashi Corner Sumikko Gurashi is the most adorable cast of characters around. A bit like the Sanrio universe, the Sumikko Gurashi characters are a group of cute animals and living creatures like a polar bear, penguin, pork cutlet (yes, seriously), and a dinosaur. They’re all just living their best lives in a corner and so can you in the Sumikko Gurashi Corner.

New Features
Typing Indicators
The chatbox is one of our favorite ways to send quick messages while on Here. With Typing Indicators, it just got a whole lot easier to know when your bestie is about to say something. Whenever someone is typing in chat, a few shapes will pop up from the message bar. These typing indicators will appear for other users in the room whenever you type in the chat too!
New Community Rooms
We’ve refreshed and updated all of our Community Rooms, which are Here Official public rooms where you can hang out with other Hereizens in the community. Each Community Room is focused on a specific topic or theme so that you can make friends with others who share the same interests! Each room also has a directory of all the other Community Rooms for easy warping. Here are each of the new and returning Community Rooms:

Here Clubs
Every week, the Here Team hosts fun activities in public rooms called Here Clubs! Each Club focuses on a different topic so you can focus on what interests you most. We have Anime Watch Parties, Movie Nights, Mix Tape Sessions, Study Halls, and Meditation Zones all around 5pm EST. Keep your eye on the Public Room Lobby for the Official Here Club rooms. This Friday, April 22nd, the Here Club will be a Movie Night of Turning Red, so come on by! Or, stay up to date with all Here Club events in our Community Discord Server.
iOS Updates
We’ve got a bunch of additions, improvements, and bug fixes to our mobile app on iOS. These updates include:
Edit Room feature in settings for changing the room name, background and locking/unlocking your room
Room Locking, which can be accessed from the Edit Room button in settings. When your room is locked, a waitlist is created for your guests who will have to be admitted by the room owner.
Profile Editor: click on your profile icon to access the profile editor. When you select “edit profile,” you can change your profile and heading pictures, name, username, and pronouns and update your bio.
Fixed autocorrect when searching for templates using the search bar
Bug Fixes & Improvements
Improved video feed and performance in larger group hangouts
Fixed display issues with pronouns
Added the ability to add friends from the Room Members list
Usernames display when signing in through Google

A group of students in Hong Kong documented the experiences of elderly patients with dementia through Here rooms. The series, called Memory Gift, showcases talented young students and their work telling the incredible stories of those living with dementia through an interactive room. These Here rooms are memories come to life. 💜

1:1 Direct Messages
Need another reason to add friends on Here? We've got you covered. Introducing DMs! (Now available on Web)
Direct messages lets you send private chats to your friends! Once you’ve made a new friend, all you have to do is select the Messages button and choose New Message. From there, choose the friend you want to message and start chatting!
Here are the steps for sending a DM in Here:
Add your besties and favs as a friend.
Select the Messages button (the paper plane icon)
Choose New Message (the + button)
Click on the friend you want to message
Start chatting 👨💻
Have fun with your friends and stay safe!
New Logo Effects
This update is supposed to be a secret, so don’t tell anyone. But we’ll reward you for reading this long with this easter egg. 🤫
Try hovering over the Here logo while in the lobby and something crazy might happen. (And it’ll be different each time.)
Here for iOS Now Supports Landscape!
We’ve got a bunch of additions, improvements, and bug fixes to our mobile app on iOS.
We have landscape mode! Enter any Here room on the mobile app and turn your phone to the side. You’re now in landscape mode, giving you more space to build, create, and have fun.
And you get a bonus feature: the joystick! If you’re an OG Here mobile user, you’ll remember the joystick from our app’s early days. We’re bringing back this crowd favorite to give you more control on how you move within a Here room on iOS.

🌟 Spotlight: Niege Borges
A canvas for (almost) limitless creativity, Here lets you create spaces that let you fully express yourselves. But sometimes, we need a little inspiration. Welcome to Here Spotlight, a series of interviews with some of our favorite artists and creatives out in the world.
Niege Borges is a Brazilian visual artist and graphic designer based in Brooklyn, New York. Her work is colorful, vibrant and playful. She likes to portray women, gender fluid people and explore different races and body shapes. Some of her clients include: Instagram, Apple, TikTok, Nike and Sephora.
Tell us a little bit about yourself, and how you found your footing into your career!
I was born in Brazil and studied graphic design there. I always loved art and was always creating something. I worked as graphic designer and illustrator in an agency in Brazil for a short period of time and then began freelancing full time. I moved to New York in 2015 and that helped me to see that I wanted to invest more time in my personal illustration work, which evolved and I started working on more projects that were my own visual aesthetic.
What inspires you as a creative?
Of course the internet inspires me a lot, I see a lot of fashion photoshoots and runaways online that inspire me, as well social media content. But besides that I love to get inspirations from walking around in the city, looking at art in galleries and museums, watching live performances and people watching in New York.
What makes your process unique? How do you express yourself in ways that may be different from others in your field?
I think everyone brings different references and stories that when combined can become something really unique, so I think that a lot of factors that brought me to where I am today influence the way I create and what I create.
What was a challenge that felt pivotal in your creative journey? How did you overcome it?
I had periods where I had a lot of commissions at the same time and I had to learn how to say no if I'm too busy. We are always scared to lose a client if we say no once but it is important to learn to not overwork yourself. I learned that it's ok to say no sometimes when I realized that working too much in certain periods wasn't good for my mental and physical health.
What are some of the musicians, artists or makers that you are excited about right now? What about them spark your imagination?
I love Nadia Lee Cohen's work, I love her way of bringing us into these eccentric worlds and portraying unique people. Chiquitettas is a performer based in Brooklyn that besides being beautiful and having amazing looks, she also organizes a lot of events and I can see how she is important to the drag, trans and LatinX community despite of her young age, which is really inspiring. Luiz Moreira is an amazing Brazilian photographer and I really like the way he photographs different body shapes and also how he incorporates a lot of the Brazilian culture into his work.
What gives you hope ?
That no matter what happens there will always be people creating beautiful things that can bring joy and inspire in different ways.
Do you have any advice for someone who is just getting started in their career?
To never stop creating even if you don't feel very confident and put your work out there, someone will like what you do, even if you don't think it's perfect. I hear that a lot of illustrators are afraid of putting stuff out there because their work "is not ready" - just upload it and if you don't like that art at some point anymore remember that you can always delete things from your portfolio or Feed later.
We are in currently in the 2022 Pride month! What excites you about Pride? What are your hopes and fears for the LGBTQ+ community this year and in the future?
I love Pride and how LGBTQ+ people can be celebrated and also reflect one the progress that we had all these years thanks to the people that were brave to come out and fight for LGBTQ+ rights. I am happy to think that probably a lot of people will be coming out this month and will be celebrated or at least will be doing the first step to live life the way that they want to. I am in New York which is a safe enough city for LGBTQ+ people but I always think of my home country Brazil and how there are a lot of places there where it is not safe to be out and proud. I hope that the LGBTQ+ community can continue to inch closer towards equality, especially our trans brothers and sisters.
