So I know it’s late November and everyone has pretty much moved on to Christmas and such, but I’m somewhat slow with processing things and I still wanted to share my Gotham-themed trunk that I did for my church’s Trunk-or-Treat this Halloween. It’s the first year I’ve gone so specific with a theme, but I got so obsessed with Gotham over the summer that I couldn’t help myself. So, I decided to make my trunk into the Iceberg Lounge (circa early season 4, though my Penguin costume is more season 3-inspired).
I’ll probably do a few separate posts, actually, just to break down all the different parts and how I made them, but here are some general pictures of my trunk and myself in costume. For anyone who doesn’t know, Trunk-or-Treat is a thing some churches, and other organizations, do where a bunch of people line up their cars in a parking lot and decorate their trunks. It provides a shorter, safer trick-or-treating route for parents with young children or anyone who doesn’t want to go house to house, and it’s also a way for people like me who live way out in the country to get trick-or-treaters. (Speaking of living out in the country, I did wash my car the day before this, but living on a gravel road, the dust always comes back...)
My Iceberg Lounge trunk, in brief, included purple umbrella lights fixtures, a frozen Ed-berg, penguin statues, and Oswald’s shiny orange bar counter. For my costume, I wore a fancy suit (obviously, haha. I also learned it’s really fun to shop for menswear). I even found a wing-collared shirt like Oswald wears in late season 2/season 3. I knew I would never be able to get a wig into proper disco vampire form, so I decided to wear Oswald’s bowler cap; I still probably didn’t get the wig trimmed short enough on the sides (I bought a basic black bob wig at Walmart and trimmed it) but I’m pretty pleased with how the spiky bangs turned out. Naturally, I also found myself a nice long, black umbrella to complete the look :)
I was really hoping that at least one Gotham fan would come through and get it, and I could point to my icy Ed and go “look! I even have Ed!”, but alas, no one did. One family did a Batman-themed trunk and I strolled over, as in character as I could manage, to introduce myself, but I did have to explain my costume to them. I was fairly happy, though, that at least a couple of people did get that I was the Penguin (”let’s see, purple parasols and birds... you must be... the Penguin?” guessed one gentleman). Anyways, now I’m posting it here, so hopefully some Gotham fans will see it and appreciate my theme!
