THIS IS SO INCREDIBLE

4 Inch Window: Happy Holidays

In which I pay tribute to @cesperanza's 4 Minute Window in a slightly different way.

See intro here for more explanation. Chapter One here. Chapter Two. Chapter Three. Chapter Four. Chapter Five. Chapter Six. Chapter Seven. Chapter Eight. Chapter Nine. Chapter Ten. Chapter Eleven. Chapter Twelve. Chapter Thirteen. Chapter Fourteen. Chapter Fifteen. Chapter Sixteen. Chapter Seventeen. Chapter Eighteen. Chapter Nineteen.

And while I am at it, allow me to thank you all so much for being so excited alongside me! Especially @albymangroves, @revolutionaryjo, @monicawoe and of course... @cesperanza

Merry Christmas, everyone!

"Hey!" Bucky shouted up the steps. "Come here, give me a hand with—"

The door to the apartment opened and Steve popped his head out. He stared, then came out onto the landing.

"It's not heavy," Bucky explained, shifting the trunk, "but it's awkward, and I don't want to make more of a mess than I--"

"I thought we said," Steve said reprovingly, coming down the stairs, "that we weren't gonna do Christmas."

"Oh, is that what you meant?" Bucky asked, and shoved the top of Christmas tree at him. "I thought you were saying we shouldn't be born in a manger or something." Steve rolled his eyes and grabbed ahold of the tree, and then they began to haul it up the steps and into the apartment. "You say it every year--every year, Steve—and I stopped believing you in, like, 1936 and you're still saying it—"

"Because you don't listen! You say yeah, sure and then you don't listen and—look at this, this is enormous," Steve said, and to be fair, the tree did look bigger in their living room than it had looked on the street.

"You're right, I don't listen. I ignore you, because you always say 'Let's not do Christmas,' and then you get me something even though you said you wouldn't so that I look like an idiot, and then I get us a tree and you say, 'Why did you get a tree?' and then you say, 'Oh, this is nice," and you like it. Tell the truth."

Steve stepped back consideringly, head tilted, and then said, "Well, it's festive."

"Oh, shut up and get me some wood for a stand," and later, they sprawled on the sofa and drank hot chocolate and looked at the tree, which they'd covered with tinsel and bits of colored paper, a box of ornaments from the dollar store. - Scenes From a Marriage: A Month of Sundays

Can you spot all the Easter Eggs? (Wrong holiday, I know, but...)

Fantastic! A square!

I have a question for mathblr. A friend has sent me this following image that I am in disagreement with.

I Have A Question For Mathblr. A Friend Has Sent Me This Following Image That I Am In Disagreement With.

My specific point of disagreement is the 'right angles'. I do not think they are valid right angles due to being against a curved surface.

Thoughts?

Hyperfixation Alert: Guadalupe Victoria

Hyperfixation Alert: Guadalupe Victoria

I don't know where else to share my (digital) collection of Guadalupe Victoria pictures, so here you have it, Tumblr!

You see, something I'm kinda jealous of when it comes to American history (and other countries), is how often their historic characters are represented in art. It's more difficult to have this in Mexico... I'm talking about the figures who fought in the War of Independence... and it's hard because many of them were killed before getting their face depicted on a portrait.

The paintings we have of many of our "heroes" from the war of independence were created decades after they were killed, so that's not really what they looked like.

This is why I've been obsessed with depictions of Guadalupe Victoria, Mexico's first president. Enjoy!

I've divided this collection in "generations", the first generations being the ones the other depictions of Victoria stem from. Before we countinue, many of these portraits are not dated, so this organization system I've created might not be arranged in chronological order they were created.

Anyways, these are from the First generation:

Hyperfixation Alert: Guadalupe Victoria

The one that we'll see more of, is the one on the left, probably because of how handsome he looks. In all three depictions we see Victoria in his military uniform, which he probably never used in battle, since he was not a professional soldier (like most in the insurgent army).

It is a nice uniform, though, the influence of the Spanish uniforms from the viceroyalty is clear.

Second generation:

On the left we see Victoria in civilian clothing but wearing the presidential band. On the right we see a miniature portrait. Both of them are very pretty images, but we can see they are derivative of the ones from the first generation.

In order to simplify depictions of Victoria, his uniform will in later representations lose many adornments, which I think makes it look a bit more like the uniforms of the Mexican army in the mid 19th century... or like a low ranking soldier from Victoria's time. Also his arms are no longer crossed on his chest, which give Guadalupe a more rigid (and boring) pose:

Generation 4: Victoria in different logos (all of them schools)

One of these things is not like another... Yes! The image in the middle is not Guadalupe Victoria... It's Agustín de Iturbide!

SEE?! Someone didn't learn their history...

Generation 5: Cute Victoria

Drawings made for schools, ephemeris or lame political propaganda.

Generation 6: Misc... idk what to do with these...

Hyperfixation Alert: Guadalupe Victoria

This one above is an image from a "monografía", a piece of paper with images and information on the back. Its use was very popular during elementary schools in Mexico back in my dys, idk if they're still used.

Hyperfixation Alert: Guadalupe Victoria

Victoria becomes president. Finally, something original! I'm not sure if it's from a monografía, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was.

¡Va mi espada en prena, voy por ella! The image below depicts Victoria's most famous heroic act during the war of independence:

Hyperfixation Alert: Guadalupe Victoria

To inspire his soldiers the young officer threw his sword towards the battlefield, where his troops refused to go despite being essential to capture the place they were attacking. Having done this, he cried "My sword is at stake, I'll go and fetch it!" and threw himself on the battlefield, which inspired his soldiers to follow him. It was after this battle that he stopped being José Miguel Ramón Adaucto Fernández y Félix and changed his name to Guadalupe Victoria. "Guadalupe" for his devotion to the Virgin Mary of Guadalupe and "Victoria" because victory was what the insurgency wanted to achieve.

I love that low resolution image with my whole heart, but it must be said, that one of its (possible) innacuracies in depicting this event might, once again, be his uniform. As previously stated, like many of the officers in the insurgent army, Victoria (then Félix) was not a trained soldier... In fact, he'd studied law before joining Father Morelos's army! So he wouldn't have an officer's uniform, or if he indeed wore one during the war, he probably stole it from a dead or defeated Spanish royalist officer. Regardless, it's still a cool piece of art!

COINS!

So I Know Its Late November And Everyone Has Pretty Much Moved On To Christmas And Such, But Im Somewhat

So I know it’s late November and everyone has pretty much moved on to Christmas and such, but I’m somewhat slow with processing things and I still wanted to share my Gotham-themed trunk that I did for my church’s Trunk-or-Treat this Halloween. It’s the first year I’ve gone so specific with a theme, but I got so obsessed with Gotham over the summer that I couldn’t help myself. So, I decided to make my trunk into the Iceberg Lounge (circa early season 4, though my Penguin costume is more season 3-inspired).

I’ll probably do a few separate posts, actually, just to break down all the different parts and how I made them, but here are some general pictures of my trunk and myself in costume. For anyone who doesn’t know, Trunk-or-Treat is a thing some churches, and other organizations, do where a bunch of people line up their cars in a parking lot and decorate their trunks. It provides a shorter, safer trick-or-treating route for parents with young children or anyone who doesn’t want to go house to house, and it’s also a way for people like me who live way out in the country to get trick-or-treaters. (Speaking of living out in the country, I did wash my car the day before this, but living on a gravel road, the dust always comes back...)

My Iceberg Lounge trunk, in brief, included purple umbrella lights fixtures, a frozen Ed-berg, penguin statues, and Oswald’s shiny orange bar counter. For my costume, I wore a fancy suit (obviously, haha. I also learned it’s really fun to shop for menswear). I even found a wing-collared shirt like Oswald wears in late season 2/season 3.  I knew I would never be able to get a wig into proper disco vampire form, so I decided to wear Oswald’s bowler cap; I still probably didn’t get the wig trimmed short enough on the sides (I bought a basic black bob wig at Walmart and trimmed it) but I’m pretty pleased with how the spiky bangs turned out. Naturally, I also found myself a nice long, black umbrella to complete the look :)

I was really hoping that at least one Gotham fan would come through and get it, and I could point to my icy Ed and go “look! I even have Ed!”, but alas, no one did. One family did a Batman-themed trunk and I strolled over, as in character as I could manage, to introduce myself, but I did have to explain my costume to them. I was fairly happy, though, that at least a couple of people did get that I was the Penguin (”let’s see, purple parasols and birds... you must be... the Penguin?” guessed one gentleman). Anyways, now I’m posting it here, so hopefully some Gotham fans will see it and appreciate my theme!

So My Boyfriend @ravenfal Came Down To Visit Last Weekend And We Had Some Fun With My Swords :) I Totally

So my boyfriend @ravenfal came down to visit last weekend and we had some fun with my swords :) I totally didn’t plan it or realize at the time but I love how we got that light side/dark side effect since I wear purple 90% of the time which was dark enough that it looks like black here*, and he was wearing white and just happened to stand on the side with the Christmas tree. I’m quite pleased with how movie poster-ish it turned out overall. We had fun :)

*Actually I realize now I was wearing black pants and a black T-shirt with a purple tree on it and a purple sweater, so I am also wearing quite a bit of black; technically it might even be mostly black. The purple sweater looks black, though, so the effect is accentuated.

(this is from howdiditevenhappenanyway 💕)

for the oc ask game, what is your process for making ocs, do you make them when you have a need for them in the narrative, or do they introduce themselves to you like some writers get?

Ok so i really like giving them meaning ful Ames

My OCS always have a name related them to even if it's very tangential

Like Lali Lopez

(this Is From Howdiditevenhappenanyway )

Her full name is Lali Orgullo López or Lali "pride's Lopez

It's maybe related to her personality, and even the acronym of her name being LOL could also be a tell about how she acts
