Broken Memories

Lofty clouds sail over the Xianzhou Lofu, welcoming some distant warmth to befall the people after what felt like years and years worth of rain. Fresh air brings in the freshness which the rain left behind, feeling like a new slate of paper ready to be written on, but Blade just watches on in solemn silence. Tendrils of pain and ache make its way through his body in steady, continuous waves, not letting him relax, but not letting him move either. For him, only the present moment exists, and in a twisted way he is forced to accept it. His life knows no end, so he makes scarce peace with the present.

Remembrance of days already long and gone make their way to his head, when white locks fell down his back instead of raven black, and when he had friends to speak off, company to talk to, and dreams to dream about. In the long faded and broken memories he sees himself, Yingxing, strike a hot piece of metal over and over again until he gets it to the desired dimensions. Deft hands grab onto the pincers and tools and a bucket of cold water to mend the metal, and the process flows on effortlessly under his watchful gaze. Yingxing feels even more anxiety pool in his chest unlike he usually feels, his gaze fixated on carving the blade to have a more intricate design - this was no ordinary blade in the end, made to be given to some soldier or some higher up as compensation, no - it was a gift. It had to be perfect. Beyond perfect.

The dagger was curved and elegant, and in his hands it demonstrated to perfect balance between the point and hilt, and many little details were put into it in colors of gold and rose gold, your favorite gemstones, your favorite color in the leather grip, your favorite shapes, and about anything else he could incorporate into the dagger without overthrowing its aesthetic and its practical use. It shines beautifully under the pale sunlight, the rain clouds drifting away after days worth of rain. Yingxing smiles at his work, lifting it up above his head until he sees the reflection of his own eyes in the blade, full of mirth and under one eye there’s a smudge of charcoal. He can’t help the pride that makes his chest swell, and neither can he afford to wait for the following day to give it to you. So he makes quick work of packaging the blade and following the narrow roads, searching the entire city until he finds you and just gives the gift to you right then and there, in broad daylight with little introduction. Red paper is wrapped around the wooden box, not in the most skilled way, but in a caring way, and he relishes in the compliments you rain down upon him when he explains what it is, or even why he gave it to you. For once he feels really seen. His life-long mission is for once cast aside in favor of admiring this little side quest he ventured upon. And he feels like he could throw everything away if it meant seeing your joy every day. That evening you have invited him back to your home, served him tea and shared your events of the day, along with more passionate comments about the gifted dagger.

Blade sighs, remembering your smile, your face, and he remembers how different it now looks in his distorted memories. He is forgetting.. He knows the face he sees in his memories is not the one he knew, he feels it in his bones and in his blackened heart. There is just something missing. The visage of his eyes can’t focus on your face nor the details of your clothes or your hands when they gripped his.

The broken dagger in his lap is unfixable - Yingxing is no longer here to mend it as before. Blade can only hold onto the essence of its memories until the whole world goes dark, and that says plenty of his grief and regret. His chin tilts down to look at the dagger, his finger jabbing at the broken blade as if it was a foreign object to him, something extra terrestrial, as if he didn’t pour his heart into it decades before. Perhaps he did pour his all into it, maybe that’s why the dagger followed the same fate as he did, as the smith poured a piece of his soul into his art. He can only hope the dagger does not represent you.. he hopes you’re out there, somewhere, happy, healthy, alive..

Comfort

A soft touch brushes against the side of your chin before the same hand comes to rest on your shoulder, and Jing Yuan’s large frame leans in to nudge the side of his face against your own. A soft ‘hm’ flies from his throat, a question posed without any words but he knows you hear him, and you understand. His other arm wraps around your lower back only to hold you and pull you closer, giving you all the physical reassurance he could, offering his presence and warmth as a comfort. Your silence only made him worry more, and it affirmed what he was thinking. He nudged his cheek against the side of your head gently once more, a low exhale falling from his nose as he kept running his fingers through your hair. He wouldn't let you be in this alone. He'd never. Jing Yuan slowly inched away, only to have space to plant his lips onto the crown of your head, a small smile growing in his lips as he searched for your distant eyes that seemed to harbor all the weight of the world, all on their own. "Hey now..look at me.." he prompted, one finger sliding under your chin to get you to look up.

"Everything will come at its own time, alright? Stressing over things will only make them worse, and tomorrow won’t come any sooner because of that, so how about you and I relax, hm? Just to forget everything, just for a night.. What do you say? I’ll help you get into this work once you’re better rested” You felt sick of everything, all of it made your head spin and throb and the soft rumble of his voice was like a spoonful of honey, just what you needed.

"My sweet little dove... I'm so sorry to see you going through this.. I wish I could take it all away, change it with a snap of my fingers. I hate to see you so down” He coos, a small frown playing across his lips as he tucked a strand of hair behind your ear, and his other arm pull you closer against his chest.

"However, I need you to remember that you're not alone on this journey. Whoever may come and go in your life is not worth the stress you're putting yourself through. And I'll always be by your side..one form or another.. understand? I’ll always be here, for as long as you want me..”

Can I Request A Drabble With Newbie Assistant Reader! X Jing Yuan? I've Been Thinking (daydreaming) Abt

A/n: Anon you got my gears turning with this food and you have successfully dragged me out of the hole of writer's block. Thank you for that and I really hope you enjoy this little drabble I made, specifically for the second prompt! Man I love this man I wanna eat him. Just imagine him with a wife that's also on the strict side and just knows to get him back to his work but he just wants another kiss before he lets her leave his embrace-

Big arms find their place around her waist and before she can pluck them off, Jing Yuan has slotted himself against her back. His chin rested on top of her shoulder and his golden eyes sluggish dragged their gaze over the documents his lovely wife was working on sorting out. A signature smile remained plastered over his lips even when he felt the scolding words bubble in your throat.

He never shared her shyness, as he called it, in the workplace. It was nothing that could damage either of their reputation, a little bit of hugging and a few cheek kisses here and there - if anything, he held firm belief that more warm displays of affection could even make the workplace be less stagnant. Why does everyone have to be so stiff? Jing Yuan knew to not cross any boundaries that could make his affections be perceived as something odd or even bad. But in an empty office, like the state it was in now, where no one paid them any mind, he really couldn’t help but pounce at the opportunity.

“Have you finished your paperwork so soon today, General?” she’d bite at him with her words, fully familiar with his tendencies to neglect the piling papers on his desk.

“Certainly. For today I have done the amount my hands could endure” Jing Yuan responded with a peck to the side of her exposed neck, smiling into her skin when he smelled some of his soap there. She smelled so warm, so relaxing, and it made him squeeze her in his arms just a little more. He heard his love exhale at his squeeze, and despite the facade she tried to keep on, he could see traces of a smile on her pretty lips when he lifted his gaze. “And what did we say about name calling? I’m Jing Yuan to you, your white lion, your husband, am I not?” He playfully nips at her ear, his warm breath fanning across her skin and making her hairs stand on their ends. “Or have you decided to take back your vows all of a sudden?” That gains a reaction out of you, a huff of a chuckle flying past your mouth at the absurd way he delivered that question. He sounded so serious about it, offended even, making her shift in his embrace.

“Jing Yuan-”

“You just keep gaining more beauty, my love, do you know?”

A long sigh and her shaking her head tell him enough, and he smiles when he sees her smile. “Don’t try to weasel your way out of this. Unhand me now, my dearest husband-” she says it as if she hates it, swatting at his hands until their grip falters. She could swat at them all she wanted but she knew that getting him off of her in this instant would be like trying to separate a nail from the flesh. “You may have done what you think is all for today, but I have more work to get to.. Tell you what..” her eyes finally grace him with the attention of her gaze and he feels like kissing her again, but he refrains as to hear her out. “If you tend to all those papers I’ll pamper your scoundrel self once we are back home, hm? If you don’t, well you can expect the cold shoulder and the couch as your bedroom until it gets done”

“You are too cruel to me, my dear, you hurt me so..” he feigns offense, all while he leans in and litters her cheek with feather kisses before he finally gets to her lips. One of his hands had snuck its way up and held her other cheek in its palm, tilting her head towards him as he pressed his lips against hers.

"You know I must resort to rougher measures when you're slacking off-" "Shhh.." he hushes her and places another kiss to her mouth.

Safe to say, that paperwork did get done later. And Jing Yuan got to enjoy a really touchy afternoon with you in his arms.

Pairing: Dr. Ratio X Jien YueXia
Pairing: Dr. Ratio X Jien YueXia
Pairing: Dr. Ratio X Jien YueXia

Pairing: Dr. Ratio x Jien YueXia

Summary: Dr. Ratio was sent to assist a team of Armed Archeologists but the meeting with the team's supervisor went unexpectedly.. good?

Words: 3767

Pairing: Dr. Ratio X Jien YueXia

Sharp ridges slanted from the sandy dunes towards the sky, a long stretch of rock and bronzy metals  that hid people within. Houses those were, and entries to tunnels underneath. The people of this world had gotten accustomed to the scorching sun and dry winds, they sought reprieve and solace under the blankets of heavy earth for colder winds. During the day there was scarcely anyone to be seen, but when the sun would begin to tip towards the horizon and open the way for the moon, the planet was as lively as any other. Markets sprouted from the sands and campsites and festivals here and there. What little flora there looked dead and dry in the sun, long leaves and branches swaying limply. Puffs of grass spawned in the lower grounds, near the houses and they grew more abundant near the oasis. It wasn’t quite so dead if one only looked closer. The world slept during the day, and woke during the night.

Jien watched this world come to light since dawn broke the skies, sitting in some shade of the many slanted houses and languidly waving her hand to cool herself. The clawed rooftops reached up to the open azure skies, and with not a cloud in sight it proved to be a mesmerizing view. Jien had watched the unchanging view for a very long time, her gaze only occasionally flickering to the book in her hand or around at the sands before going up again in thought. Lukewarm air breathed across the ground, stirring grains of flickering dust, ash and sand, spraying it across the feathers of her limp tail that sat on the ground. It should be near 10 o’clock now, she thinks, they should be here soon.

She had traveled ahead of her squad long prior on private business, and it just so happened their next venture was marked here. However much her team had grown on her, in whatever capacity that was possible, she misliked to travel with much company, if any for that matter. It made her uncomfortable, and alone she only had to think of her actions and words, and not of anyone else. Such a thing could mean friend or foe in foreign worlds, and it was better to not risk it, or risk growing exhausted by someone ineptitude or slowness.

Her heavy lidded eyes closed for a brief moment, exhaustion plaguing her mind. A quick flick of her tail got rid of the sand that gathered on top of it, and she soon got up to stretch her long legs. And as if on cue, a large blitz of light in the sky caught her eye. A pebble of silver appeared within view, seemingly unmoving across the sea of the sky, but it grew bigger and approached faster. And before long, the long legs protruding from its pale silver belly emerged for landing, sinking into the sand upon contact. Even from afar, the sand kicked up as the spaceship stirred the air. The whirring from the engine slowly became a low groan that faded into nothingness, replaced by the mechanic sliding of the doors and the sliding of the catwalk.

Leaving her cool shade Jien took several steps forward to stand in view and to greet her team. Young Lan was first to emerge from the belly of the ship, and was the first to spot her, lifting a long arm up and waving her way. She returned the wave with a brief one of her own, holding her leatherbound book close to her chest with her other arm, a silent solace. Her second-in-command came out next, and he was followed by a short trail of the remaining of her team, along with one unfamiliar head of hair she could only guess was the doctor that would be joining them. He stood out like a sore thumb among them, wearing colors much more vibrant in comparison to the duller colored attire her team wore. Blue and white and gold; she worried he’d find the trip uncomfortable if that was his only style to wear here. Her team blended in, while he stood out among them.

Swallowing her thoughts down she moved once more towards them, meeting them halfway and greeting them with a soft “Good morning” and a few shakes of hands.

“I hope the trip wasn’t too exhausting for you all, you look in good spirits” she noted, looking at the faces of her team as they gathered up. Kaiya, the second-in-command, broke through the people and came to stand before her, giving a cordial nod in greeting “Besides a few hours of restless sleep, the journey has been quick and fair. I do apologize for the lack of communication, we have lost signal for a while” spoke Kaiya, adjusting the gloves on his hand, to which Jien simply shook his head and dismissed the apology.

“It’s no worry. You’re on time for the schedule we set..” her eyes turn to the sharp gaze of the stranger, “And you must be ..Dr. Ratio. It is good to meet you in person now” she turned to him, having felt his heavy eyes on her from the moment he approached. “I’m Jien YueXia, the team supervisor. I wish you a warm welcome, and I hope you find what you’re looking for in this place” Jien had only texted with Dr.Ratio briefly prior to this mission, simply exchanging some basic courtesies and some intel on the expedition, but besides that it was all devoid of anything much concrete.

Dr. Ratio regarded her with an odd look for a moment, seemingly sizing her up, evaluating her on this first, real, impression. “Hm. Pleasure to make your acquaintance at long last, miss YueXia, you’re quite the difficult person to get a hold of” He didn’t mince his words and neither did he soften his tone, but Jien had predicted as such. Just from the rumors that she heard of his character she could surmise he may be a bit…difficult - stubborn perhaps would be a kinder and a better word for now until she converses with him more.

“Yes. But I don’t doubt many would say the same for you, doctor, which is why I value your presence here all the more. My schedule lately has been too busy to indulge in any chit-chat. I do hope Kaiya has filled you in on the rest of the details while you were traveling?” She could glimpse a few uneasy looks and stiff shoulders from her peripheral, an uneasy indicator to the Doctor’s presence. It would be no lie to say her team knew way more about this Doctor than she did, but she found it puzzling that they seemed to be afraid. It set her to be quite more defensive and wary than she already was. Her team was closer to her than he was, and she felt a responsibility to protect them, even if it meant putting herself on the possible chopping block.

The corners of his lips twitched ever so slightly before he gave a curt nod, taking a quick look at Kaiya and then back at her. “Yes, he seemed quite eager to help me in that regard as well. Although those details were rather vague, and left much more to be desired. I have done my own work and research on this environment, so to say I am not informed would be a fallacy”. At that Jien showed the curl of her lips, a faint smile that was more of a mix of necessity and slight courtesies than actual joy.

“Why, that is a relief. But if a question does happen to spring forth from this realm of the impossible, you can ask me about it. For now, let’s retreat to some shade before we burn up” With that she ended their chatter and led them to entry to what anyone else would assume was just a giant mountain of sand, but inside there were more people, and there was life. Green plants decorated the corners and they bloomed with the faint sweetness of flowers. Jien walked up to the desk set up in the room, and after a short chat it became evident this would be their residence. A hotel perhaps, or an inn - both words could be used, depending on whether you saw this place as fancy or not.

For all it lacked on the outside, the mountain of the hotel made up for it on the inside. It was evident the planet had much to offer, and their technology was on par with that of their HQ, which was quite a praise considering the planet has only been in contract with the IPC for only a handful of years. Prior to that, when Jien was not yet a  member of the Intelligentsia Guild, expeditions to this place were quite the risk. The people here were unfamiliar with these “extraterrestrial strangers”, and while they were not hostile, they weren’t friendly either. The lack of shade was enough for missions to end sooner than they began, and the endless rocky slopes didn’t reveal their secrets easily, nor did the wild monsters that lurked just underneath the earth’s blanket. Jien was here before, and she knew enough of their language to go about on her own without issue, and that was evident in her records as well with how many times and how much time she spent here in the last two months alone.

With their luggage in hand, they all found their designated rooms, leaving spare items there before meeting up again at the dinner after they got some rest. It was just about lunch time when everyone had come down and took their seats at different tables. Some members were chatting amidst themselves about mundane, everyday things, and in passing Jien had caught word of some wedding in one of their lives, and another spoke of getting some new digging equipment. She passed by them and had come up to the mostly vacant table where Dr. Ratio sat, his eyes puzzled at the menu and its foreign tongue.

“Dr. Ratio, may I join you? Or do you wish to have some more time for yourself?” Her question did pull his nose from the menu and up at her where she stood behind a chair, with one hand on the wood carved backrest. “Or have you scared everyone away from you?” She posed an additional question, although with the flatness of her voice it proved difficult to see whether she was serious or jesting. Nonetheless, Dr. Ratio motioned with his hand, inviting her to sit with him, a small scoff flying out from him at her wording.

“Please do. You may be the only one to approach without any.. hesitation. They do say ignorance is bliss, and these poor sods would much rather remain ignorant than enlightened” Just as the words tumbled from his lips he could see the light grimace on Jien’s face that did nothing to hide her displeasure at the way he spoke of her team. With a huff from her nose she was quick to set the record straight, in the gentlest way she could - she still hoped to have an amicable relationship with him if they are going to work side by side. “From what I know, your way of dealing with people and speaking to them, as well as your reputation precedes you by a long mile. And just because you have not spent enough time around them does not qualify them as ‘sods’, doctor. I’d appreciate it if you spoke more kindly about them, even if you yourself may not like them”. She had seated herself not opposite of him but on the next turn of the table, her back against the chair as they chatted, although Jien hoped to get to the menu soon. This would be her breakfast, technically, and she felt starved.

With a sharp and observant gaze he analyzed her features and the way she positioned herself and the tone of her voice and the way she moved. Although at first glance she appeared mild-mannered and quiet there was a hint of something else underneath all of it. Perhaps he really did hit a nerve with his remark. Perhaps he didn’t like someone challenging his words so bluntly.  “Fine. I have no problem with them on a personal level in the end, but I have no interest in coddling them or treating them with excessive kindness. With that being said, I will attempt to speak more.. kindly, as you put it, if nothing else but for your sake, Miss YueXia” His fingers picked up the menu once again, his gaze finally leaving her face, and for a moment Jien felt a bit of reprieve. She had no doubt he shared the opinion that it would be better to be softer than to provoke unnecessary conflicts or unease in the team they were supposed to be working together with. And most importantly, this wasn’t his territory, he truly was just a stranger here. He knew.

Jien nodded her head in silent gratitude for his compliance. “That is much appreciated, Dr. Ratio. Now, unless my eyes deceived me, you looked to be a bit confused by the menu here. Can I help you?” she asked, crossing one leg over the other as she got more comfortable in her seat. He let out a throaty hum, rubbing his chin before sighing. “I’m simply a bit confused by the names of these dishes, they are quite.. odd. That is odd. You’ve been here before, what would you recommend?” he switched topics swiftly, stubbornly avoiding any questions directed solely at him now.

“Hmmm… Well, it depends on your taste preference. This place is quite known for more exotic delicacies which are plant based, but they don’t lack in meaty dishes either” Jien spoke, leaning forward slightly as she eyed the menu in his hands, which he promptly turned for her viewing. After pointing out a few options and selecting the one to his liking, Jien was a bit quiet as she scanned the menu for her own choice. The waiter was walking around in the meantime, taking orders and ringing them back to the kitchen, and by the time the young waiter arrived at their table they were set to order. Dr. Ratio went first, and Jien soon after.

While they waited, they were served freshly cut fruit and water. There was a light tone of music coming from the front of the restaurant. The sound bounced off of the cold stone walls, but it was not disruptive or too loud - it was quite relaxing. The occasional yell of the chefs was the only noise that was somewhat odd amidst the chatter and song.

“Do tell me, you’re a Vidyadhara, correct?”

The question came out of the blue, even if Jien had expected it as she chewed on her round red fig. Up until then, Dr. Ratio had spoken briefly on how he had prepared for this expedition and what he expected, but Jien had remained mostly quiet as there wasn’t much to add. It was bordering on awkward in certain moments.

“I am not” Jien replied curtly as her tail curled closer to the legs of her chair, feathers rustling softly together. While she chewed on her fruit she could practically hear his thoughts as his eyes flickered from between her horns and her eyes, and the thought of her tail…

“Really? That’s quite hard to believe, given your resemblance to their kin.” There was a breath of sarcasm in his words which was absent up to that point in their conversation. “Well then, perhaps you could indulge my curiosity. What are you, if not a Vidyadhara?”

“Human, just like you” she responded with little thought behind it. “I hate to disappoint you but that is the truth. I am not anything special, and if it would be easier to understand, these horns and tail are all decorations of sorts..” It would be difficult to explain how they look so real and organic without them being machinery, and she hoped he wouldn’t probe.. “I have spent quite a significant amount time with the Vidaydhara however, so I suppose I picked up quite a lot from them”

Now that response seemed to take the doctor off guard, his eyes widening for only the briefest of glimpses before his sturdy composure was back on like daylight. If only for a moment, he genuinely looked perplexed.

She was hoping to assume it would be fine to be truthful with him, he was quite the intellectual and has prided himself for all he knew about a variety of subjects. But even in the official register of the Intelligentsia Guild they have noted her down as a Vidyadhara, as she truly didn’t have any other explanation for her looks, and she often did simply roll with it to avoid any confusion and over complicated attempts to explain that she was able to make this from mere pages of her book. Dr. Ratio leaned in, elbow resting on the tabletop as his eyes now openly swallowed every detail of her appearance. “Mere decoration you say? They certainly look as real as you” he commented as Jien instinctively leaned back, her eyes following the way his own flickered across her features. A moment of thought made her feel as if she was under the limelight and she wanted to shrink underneath it.

Dr. Ratio could not deny the possibility of this being true, he has seen everything and this was nowhere near the most absurd things he has seen, nor the most fascinating. Yet it piqued his interest nonetheless. He does wear a plaster head, and she wears her horns, perhaps the two were somewhat alike, but that could have been only Veritas’ mind trying to reason with this answer.  He remained silent for a time as he watched her shrink under his gaze. Not out of malice, but merely from a strange fascination of sorts that perhaps even he didn’t understand to its fullest extent. He was no stranger to the unexpected; from his research alone he had delved into areas that even he wasn’t entirely sure how to process and accept in certain moments. Though, he didn’t  hate the unexpected.

“Fascinating..” he had muttered, the words slipping from his lips before he realized it. Jien broke into a small grin, flustered or uncomfortable by the overwhelming attention. “Ah, thank you, I suppose..”

His gaze didn’t falter for another few moments, focusing in on every ridge of her horns and down to the base which was obscured by her bangs and rest of her hair. Dr. Ratio could simply not resist asking further about it. “How did you procure such a.. realistic pair, and an even more realistic tail more importantly? They certainly look real.. Though, this is very much a compliment to your craftsmanship in making them, if what you say is true” he inquired, tilting his head very slightly. But finally he leaned back, giving back the air she began to crave more than the food on the table. She plucked a slice of a fruit from the plate to ease herself back into the conversation once more.

“It’s a.. complicated process. I am not sure where to even begin.. but I did start off with simply drawing out many patterns on paper before I settled on one I liked the most, before going further and ..assembling it, giving it shape and structure…” She trailed off, her brows meeting together at the center as she realized the lack of sustenance her answer provided, it was simply too vague and Ratio looked at her as if she answered wrong, even if he himself lacked the correct answer. He wanted more detail, it was evident, but how does she explain to a scientist she simply pulled it out of the paper of her book and that there was no ‘assembling the pieces’ process. Just as she was about to say some more, their plates of food were served in front of them, along with their drinks and utensils. Thanking the waiter they brushed the topic aside for the time being.

Even so, Dr. Ratio was quite insistent on asking further. Not even drinks could drown his curiosity, nor the food. No matter which way their conversation swayed, she could still feel the question looming over her head.

“Doctor, I do not wish to lie to you, but it is also not the right time for me to tell you exactly how these were made. I do have hope you’ll figure it out over the next few days however, you are a genius after all and you do not lack in observation skills.." She pierced a piece of meat on her fork and ate it, watching his eyes regard her curiously, but this time it wasn’t something directed at ‘hows’ or ‘whys’, but rather something else she couldn’t quite place her finger on. A faint smile appeared on his lips as he chewed down his bite. Jien had to stop herself from raising a brow at the sudden change in demeanor, but she had an idea what it was now.

Dr. Ratio left out a huff, not out of annoyance but amusement. There was a peculiar warmth in his chest, despite being called a genius by so many people, even he had begun to forget their faces. As this realization entered his mind his smile fell as fast as it appeared on his lips. “If this is your way of testing my intellect then so be it, I do not look away from a challenge for the mind. I look forward to what you have to show for all these words you served. I truly do hope it is not a set up for nothing” he told her as he reached for his glass and took a sip, glancing at her over the crystalline rim of it.

Jien let out a chuckle at that and shrugged her shoulders. This Ratio was more amusing than she gave him credit for - stubborn to a fault, but he did not lack in some manners, at least. He wasn’t dull, Jien will give him that for now.  “Well, we’ll only be able to tell when this is all over, right?” Dr. Ratio nodded and as he opened his mouth to talk she could spy from her peripheral vision a few looks casted their way from the rest of the team, but she paid them no mind.

“What’s this for again?”

“It’s for the little screws that connect your plating together”

“Hm, looks like you can stab someone with it” Boothill commented, eyeing the thinner tool peeking from your work apron which lost its original white color, having changed to a washed out green with blotches of oil and metallic spray paint. It’s been only half a system hour since Boothill first stepped into the mechanic station you worked at, and already he has made a score for how many questions can be asked within those 30 or so minutes. It’s been a terrible morning with terrible weather and terrible news and terrible first customer, and this talking-your-ear off wasn't something you needed - it wasn’t exactly soothing, but you had no heart to tell him to quiet down.

You love to hear him talk while you work, you got used to it and have adjusted to it long ago, but today just had to be special. It had started to grow distracting and such distractions can’t be afforded if you are to properly fix the jammed plating and components within his arm. The plating pressed onto the wires within, making his entire arm remain in a constant position that would be painful were he still made whole of flesh and bone. The uncomfortable bend of it made you cringe when you saw it, reminding you of that one time your leg cramped badly from, and so you quickly got to work.

“Anything can be used as a weapon if you find ya’self in a bad situation, ain’t that right, darling?” Boothill mused, his cramped arm extended towards you as you worked your way to separate all the plating, the jammed and bent screws making it harder to pull apart. “Perhaps I should get m’self one of those too, y’know- for some close-range encounters. But then again, there’s not many situations that my bullets can’t help to resolve” he kept going, looking at your eyes that focused on the opening you made.

“Y-yeah..” you absentmindedly responded, not being able to pay too much attention to his words, but you caught a few words of ‘weapon’ and ‘gun’ and made a surface connection based on that. ‘Just nod along..’ You were distracted from the start of this day, despite your denial of that.

What came unexpectedly was two of his metal hands coming up to pinch a loose and hanging lock to tug on it, just enough to break your focus and move your head back. “Ow- heyy!” you protested as you turned to sharply glare at him. “I’m trying to fix you up here, you know? Do you want your arm stuck like this for the rest of time?” Your words are a challenge to him, and he greets it with a toothy grin. a hearty chuckle and slanted, hiding warmth behind them under a guise of mischief.

“Oh, come on! You’ve been fixing me up for a long time, and we are on friendly terms are we not, partner? What got you so gloomy today, I haven’t don’ anything wrong, have I?” His fingers give another small tug to your lock of hair before you pull your head back and your hair out of his hold, shaking your head. He was acting so stubborn now! What in the world has gotten into him?

“No! But come on- Hey!” you try to grab the screwdriver before Boothill fishes it out of the pocket of your apron with his good hand, twirling it between his fingers and staring at it as if he struck gold with his catch. Your hands all but abandoned your work on his arm, standing up to retrieve the screwdriver from his hold but he persists, stretching like a big, long cat to move the screwdriver out your way, and despite his disadvantage of sitting  down in a chair, he did a wonderful work of avoiding your grabby hands.

You huffed in frustration, biting your lip in hopes to choke back the laugh you felt bubbling in your throat. Your face was flushed from holding your breath and chasing him around and around, yet moving nowhere.

“Boothill, give it back! I need that for your arm, you fool” you argue, making another dash for his hand, only to grab onto air as he swiftly moves his hand down.

“Nah, I think I may try doing this m’self, can’t have you working on me in that sour of a mood. I don’t know what I’ve done- hold on, has someone else soured your mood?”

“Give- it - back” in some last ditch attempt to pry the screwdriver from his hands before he can do more damage than good, you threw yourself over his shoulder from behind, reaching for his wrist with one hand and grabbing the screwdriver with the other. “Whoa there!” you hear him cheer, more laughter coming from him, and this time you can’t help but choke out a chuckle, now at the grips with him. Toe-to-toe and at a tug of war.

“No one has soured my mood, now, please, give it back” you plead but he stays stubborn, shaking his head and  you feel his head turn and tilt, his nose touching your shoulder. “Wh-” you gasp as you feel his teeth nipping at your shoulder through your clothes, a playful snap of his jaw before he is pulling away just as quickly as he leaned in.

As you turn and twist to look at him in pure and utter disbelief, his eyes catch yours, and he sees just how flushed you look and before long he is losing his grip on the screwdriver from laughing.

“Oh shut up, you ranger! That was so unnecessary!” You won the screwdriver back, but at what cost? Yet.. seeing him laughing so earnestly was contagious.

Boothill himself often came in for check up and fix ups with a sour and snappy mood, but never at you, and he always made it a point not to burden you with gloom and boredom of his situation, he never lacked to tell you stories of the world and where his travels took him when you weren’t around. And god- it’d be a lie to say you didn’t try to cheer him up more than once before. It finally dawned on you that perhaps you were too gloomy and he was trying to cheer you up, in whatever way he could, given his own circumstances.

“Ahh, you should go and take a look at yourself, darling, you look red like a sweet berry, pah!”

How could you not be distracted when you had such genuine company? No gloom can pierce this cowboy.

Hi.iii.... Booth,ill Request!?!?

“Here” A porcelain cup slid your way over the polished wood desk. It was a pretty off-white, rimmed with a golden line and another purple one, thinner than the gold. Tea steamed from within, wafting off the soothing floral smell. You sighed, quickly averting your glance back at the books open before you. There were two books, thick and intimidating, and your open notebook you were reading your scribbly notes from.

Circling around you Veritas’ looming frame cast a shadow over your papers for a moment before he seated himself in the chair next to you, his own cup in hand. “You're still on the same problem as when you started?” He clicks his tongue, nursing a sip of his tea before setting it aside when he appears satisfied. You didn't have it in you to respond, wishing to avoid any form of an outlash, especially taken in the fact you had already told him how you struggled with procrastination for quite a handful of days. He has given his advice, but they failed to make the spark with you last long enough to properly sit and study, and that all caused guilt to claw at your belly from within.

Veritas, on the other hand, didn't seem half as phased as you thought he'd be, at first he didn't even notice how your eyes looked at him in a silent plea for mercy. His amber eyes looked over your notes, at all the scribbles and marked words, letting out a low “hmmm”.

“And tell me, what is it that has you so stumped about this? It's quite an easy equation” he wondered, a little taken aback it was taking you so long on this, yet he had to remind himself that this material was new to you, unlike him who has seen this material countless times over. You weren't dumb, however, so what is it..?

“I.. don't know... The results I've gotten previously make no sense and they do not match the one the professor got in class. His is the right result, and I don't get how every time I did the problem, I got a different result” you began, voice initially quiet as if begging his ears to become deaf to your words, but your plea went unanswered. His keen eyes regarded you with a strange curiosity, his chin leaning on his hand.  Only now did he realize how tense you looked. He blinks at you owlishly, studying your features for a brief moment before turning his gaze back towards the papers. “That is a problem.. Where is the formula your professor used? Do you have his equation as a whole written down here?”

You looked at him and then at the papers, eyes flickering all across the written words and printed text.  “I.. I do.. Yes, why?”

A scoff came first, “Why, so I can take a look at it so I can help you. You did ask me to help you, did you not?”, then his large hand picked up the pen you had abandoned on top of your notes, motioning for you to show him the notes. “We can go step by step and then compare the progress to see where your problem lies”

Nodding, you were quick to breeze through the old notes, paper pages fluttering as you went over each one until finally reaching a page so full of equations it made your head hurt. With your finger you point to the one you were currently trying to figure out. “This one.. This is just a copy of what the professor did on the white board.. and this is the formula he used '' you showed him, letting him slide the notebook to his side of the desk when his fingers pinched the corner.

Silence engulfed the room, and for a long while you could only watch as Veritas’ expression changed from focused, to confused and then to frustrated.

“Are you sure this is what the professor wrote down? This is entirely incorrect. The formula alone is wrong, and the process of his calculations is just abhorrent.. What is this-” he slightly nudged the notebook away from him, offended by its contents, to say the least.

Like a little wet rat, you held your hands together, feeling guilty for all reasons you shouldn’t, a pout playing about your lips as you nodded. “Yes.  That is what the professor wrote! One of my colleagues even took a picture at the end of the class since she was too lazy to write it all down herself, so I know for a fact I didn’t copy the notes wrong” you rushed to explain as your eyes glared at the offending problem.

“That is ridiculous” Veritas grumbled as he opened the big math book a few pages back from where you had opened it, searching for the formulas, and pointing towards one he softened his tone. “This formula should have been used in this problem. It is similar, yes, but the functions can’t be any more different from what your.. professor used” looking down at your notes and at the problem afterwards, he sneered, seeing that the formula was used once again in the next equation. “I don’t know what your professor was thinking, but repeating the same mistake twice is beyond ignorant..”

“What..? So..? So he is in the wrong?”

“Yes. Now.. show me the way you did it. And do it with this formula I just showed you” Veritas instructed, his nose scrunched up in disgust, although none of it was directed at you but rather at this person he didn’t even know. Perhaps he should go and meet him, just to see the face of ignorance and negligence in human form.

Following his advice, you did as he asked, working on the problem with Veritas sitting at your side, his eyes occasionally flickering to the remaining problems that would follow this one.

“There… Is this right..?” You pulled back to allow him a better view of your writing, and it didn’t take the brilliant Veritas Ratio too long to check that you were - in fact - right.  His face eased slightly from its previous tension, sighing he gave a nod of satisfaction and acknowledgement.

“That’s right. Well done” Veritas says, voice significantly softer as he addresses you, before turning sharper once more. “I knew something was wrong when you got stuck on this for so long. You managed to solve all those problems I gave you yesterday, which are arguably much harder than this and much more complex with extra steps.. Hmph, can’t believe someone didn’t point out this error in your professors work”

Veritas leaned back in his chair, his arms folded over his chest in a comfortable fashion in which he usually sat around you, his whole composure softening, but through and through, it was the Veritas Ratio you always knew. Hope lit up in your eyes at the unraveling of this problem that nearly had you sick to the stomach for this whole day.

“So..I know this?..Does this mean I won’t fail..?

“Oh, don’t be ridiculous, of course you won’t! You’ve got me to teach you, and let me be damned if you fail”

A victorious cackle left you as he said so, feeling free of the clutches of madness this exam has put you into, and as to celebrate you all but flung yourself onto Veritas, hugging him.

The sudden embrace surprised him and made him stutter, but his arms were quick to find their place around your body, scoffing, even as he tucked his face into your shoulder.

Um, I'm not sure if you're taking requests but I really love you're writing so I'm gonna try my luck

Could you please do a Medusa!Reader with Jiaoqiu? I've had this idea swirling around for a while.

A/n: I remember seeing those Medusa x her blind lover and I love the idea sm it's so bittersweet but can be fluffy aaaa

Contents: Jiaoqiu x Reader, angst, a bit of comfort, spoilers for the 2.5 quest!

Um, I'm Not Sure If You're Taking Requests But I Really Love You're Writing So I'm Gonna Try My Luck

The morning came damp and misty on the Xianzhou Yaoqing. Clouds hung heavy and grey overhead while people huddled away in their homes and offices, and shops. Gazing around it was hard to tell colors apart, everything looked gray.

Your night was sleepless, and for the few minutes your eyes closed it was also dreamless, pebbled with touches of reality, the roughness of your blankets and the way it wouldn’t let you rest lest you left home altogether in search of that small bit of solace. You’d scarcely call it solace, but you knew a part of you would be called nonetheless, in some way. For once, you were the visitor and not the visited. And your time was limited.

Jiaoqiu opened the door, his eyes empty as they stared right through you and his ears were almost animated in their movement, rotating and flicking at each snap the snakes in your hair made, every little shuffle and whisper. He was still in his bedwear, hair slightly disheveled.

“Jiaoqiu..?” you whispered his name so cautiously, as if uttering it would break him and he responds with the softness of his smile upon recognizing your voice. His ears lightly fall, fluffy and pointed at you, shoulders slumping down in relief.

“Ah.. it is you. It’s been quite a long time, although it feels even longer than that I confess..” he speaks so casually, stepping aside, shuffling over his own tail and inviting you in. Once inside you see the clean interior. There are no items on the floor, no low hanging plants and herbs like Jiaoqiu once described his home like. It was orderly, clean, spacious, made for him to remember and be safe in without worry. As much as it was a relief, it brought a pain to your chest, the view of his home solidifying the fate he encountered on the Luofu.

You slid up before him after the door clicked shut, your warm palms finding the paleness of his cheeks and cupping him close, tenderly. You search his eyes but find nothing, and his lashes soon flutter shut as he realizes your doings. Your hands don’t leave his skin, but his own hands find their place over your wrists, stroking gently to soothe you. You never touched him before, and he never gazed upon your face. The memory of your first encounter was a distant wisp of a memory he struggled to fiercely hold on, even as exhausted as he is. “You worry for me, my dear? I do not doubt the news… has reached you already..”

You nod in the moment, looking on at him in longing and you have to remind yourself that he was not lost. He was alive and whole, but more broken than the time you saw him off.

“I have worried and I still worry.. what have they done to you, Jiaoqiu?”

Jiaoqiu can’t help but frown at the tone of your voice, it hurts just to hear it, his heart twists and his hold on your wrists tightens. “Nothing I cannot deal with, (Y/n).. Please, do not scare yourself into sleeplessness. If it is of any comfort, General Feixiao has already vowed to find someone to heal my eyes.. Do not fret” he tells you but it is almost as if you do not hear him. His ears twitch at the soft sound of a hitched breath, he feels your thumb rolling across his cheek, under his eyes and your snakes hiss softly.

He knew the chances of his eyes actually being healed were minimal, yet he wished not to bring you any more fright. It was odd to see you so fearful, worried, but no less saddening. He brought you happiness with his flowery poems and cryptic talks and you brought him joyful surprises with the bluntness of your speech. It was your large garden you usually met at, under the stone carved statue of a winding coral, pebbled with stone birds on every other branch. You’d sit at the base of the statue, back pressed against the stone, and he’d sit on the other corner of the same, never being able to gaze onto your face, but he remembers holding your hand. He never imagined such a romance would blossom from those interactions, yet it did.

He extends his hand forward, slowly moving it towards you until he feels the many little heads of small snakes bumping into his fingers and knuckles. He lets out a little chuckle, letting his hand linger and letting the curious snakes explore his skin as well. “Would you look at that.. they’re kissing me, are they?” He can feel the little licks of their thin tongues, even the snakes are gentle with him, being much more fragile than him. He feels half of the man that he once was, ashamed but he brings himself to smile nonetheless. Perhaps it was his turn to be soft and taken care of, however redundant that seemed to him.

You scoff, the light shaking of your head pulling the snakes along with you, who in turn let out a dissatisfied hiss.

“I should have been there..” you say, bringing his head closer down to kiss his forehead. He looks even prettier than you imagined him to be. You don’t expect him to reach for your cheek next though, it startles you but you melt into his touch.

“No. Your place is here, where it is safe” he says, resolute and firm in his words, tone suddenly washed clean from any drowsiness of sleep. “What has happened was unfortunate, yet necessary, I fear.. And were I to go back, I would have done the same.. Don’t worry about me. I can still think of poems for you, even if I can no longer see them or write them..” Your skin is warm and damp, he feels it, you have been crying. It worries him more. He presses his other hand to your cheek, bringing you closer until your foreheads pressed together, nuzzling into your warmth. The snakes in your hair seem to be in need of comfort as well with the way the slither closer, tickling his ears and cheeks with their little tongues and noses.

“I am here. And so are you. And Hoolay is no more.. That’s all that matters now.”

You don’t respond, his words aren’t too comforting, however true they are, so you choose to pepper his cheeks and nose and forehead with countless kisses you couldn’t give him before.

Imagine hanging around Robin a whole lot. Like you two spend so much time ever since you went to Peanacony. Where she is, she's dragging you along.

But there's a reason why. And she thinks she knows the reason. It's pretty clear to the public that you two are best friends. But rumors spread. And they spread fast.

She doesn't mind them. She's never minded rumors throughout her career. She can't help the flutter in her heart though when the press questions her about you and asks if you two are together.

There is another factor to this rumor party. Sunday.

He doesn't like that you spend so much time around his sister. He can't help it. He's a protective older brother. But every time he comes up to you and questions your relationship with Robin, it ends up derailing into a casual conversation.

He walks away from you even more confused than he was when he went to talk to you.

Now imagine the surprise of both of them when you say you were friends with Robin because you wanted to get close to Sunday. With 0 malice in your voice you admit to wanting to be closer to Sunday.

So the two siblings have come to a consensus that they would share your attention and time. This makes the news storm even more confused when they find you spending all your time with Sunday one week and then with Robin another.

But the two can't really help it, you're just to cute not to keep around.

The Family probably outlaws divorce, i mean think about it.

In the path of harmony unity is the most important thing and families are the most basic form of it, that is why their largest faction is called The Family and do you know what destroys families? Divorce.

So under the name of unity/harmony they would probably make divorce illegal as a sort of symbolism that nothing can break the unity of Xipe's followers.

So while writing a previous post i realized something, this would work well in a yandere setting.

I mean, think about it, your favorite Penacony character who totally doesn't stalk you at all can act all normal and sane until you two get married and oops, looks like you can't divorce them now, time to reveal my true colors.

You can complain all you want about having your space invaded or having your acquaintances scared off but in the end the furthest you could go with them is marriage counseling.

Every marriage under Xipe is unbreakable and final, so dry up those tears and accept your life by their side.

It's not like you can leave them anymore anyway.
