This is a story that will encompass the first 4 entries of the Febuwhump 2022 challenge. 1 per chapter. Gratuitous Charlie whump because I wanted him to deal with the Grave Matter episode events. There’s a bit of a plot to go with it but it doesn’t go very deep.

The plot: A young woman is found stabbed to death but the sole witness won’t come forward. It’s up to Charlie and the team at Major Crimes to find the truth!

"What were you thinking?!"

"I was thinking, Rex has paws, right? So then it's all a matter of training."

Joe looks from Charlie to Rex, proudly sitting in the driver's seat of Charlie's Wrangler, paws at nine and two.

"Charlie, this is insane - look what he did to the pole!"

Charlie leans across to stick his head out of the driver's window and shrugs, clearly unconcerned about the yellow paint now decorating the cracks in the Wrangler's front bumper.

After a few moments of pondering how the hell he got here, Joe opens the door to the backseat and gets in.

Charlie had seemed fine while they wrapped up the case, so no one thought there might be something wrong. He'd waved off any concern for his well-being, focused on wrapping up the case and getting the criminals put behind bars after his friends had pulled him out of that pine box in the dirt.

But now he was home after an incredibly long ordeal, finally winding down from the adrenaline of everything that had happened, and his system finally had time to acknowledge just how much it had been through.

I haven't really been up to writing much of anything this year. I saw the @whumptober prompts when they first went up, but I wasn't planning to write anything for them. But now... here I am. 😅 No guarantees on how many I'll write - although I do think writing a flash fic for each would be a fun challenge, but no promises.

And since Hudson & Rex is my new TV obsession, (naturally) here we are.
