I don't know, snowshower, are YOU up for the challenge of READING IT?!
The villain watched as the superhero's team made a run for it, scrambling out of their territory like a pack of scared little rats. They chuckled to themself, waiting until the last of them disappeared out of sight before leaving their position up on the roof, walking calmly down the staircase of the abandoned warehouse and preparing to leave when the faint clanking of chains caught their attention. They stopped, listening carefully, and when the sound repeated itself they turned back, making their way deeper into the building once more.
They'd set traps all over the place - not that they were truly necessary when the villain's power was so great. It was merely a precaution, just on the off chance that one of the heroes was actually smart enough to check there...and one of them had been.
The villain looked on in surprise at the hero in front of them, chained to the ground and desperately trying to claw off the shackle that had latched itself around their ankle when they'd made a poor choice of footing. It was rather pitiful really. They'd been the only one to get somewhat close to the villain and yet they were the only one left behind...
The villain frowned: why had they been left?
It wasn't like the superhero to just abandon one of their team - had the other miscounted? Even stranger, the hero didn't seem to be calling out for help, all their focus simply targeted at the chain trapping their leg.
"Come on," they muttered to themself, cursing sharply when the metal contraption refused to budge. "Come on."
"They left."
The hero's gaze snapped over to them, eyes widening a little before turning back down towards the floor.
"I know," they said.
Then they went back to trying to free themself.
The villain watched on, perplexed. Was the hero not upset their team had left them? They had to be; they had to be feeling so lost - so betrayed - right now but they weren't showing it, not in the slightest.
"Aren't you scared?" the villain asked. "You've been abandoned, and you haven't got the power to fight me on your own."
"Oh, I'm terrified," the hero responded.
The villain's incredulity grew. "Aren't you going to at least try calling for help? I could be lying to you."
"But you're not."
"But I could be."
"But you're not."
A pause.
"Why?"
The hero turned to face them, brows drawn together in confusion. "Why what?"
"Why would they leave you?"
At that, the hero huffed a laugh but it sounded tired - dead. The villain noted the strained look in their eyes and the way they seemed to hunch in on themself, gaze falling down to the chain once more and giving it a half-hearted tug.
"Because they haven't realised they've left me," the hero said. "Because Superhero is too busy watching the people they think will hit the big leagues and the rest are too busy watching the people that they consider their competition."
The villain's frown deepened at the implication. "So no one's watching you?"
The hero gave the chain one final tug before letting it fall to the ground with a loud clang that echoed throughout the warehouse. The action was sharp, frustrated, and the villain might have flinched from the suddenness of it if they weren't already expecting it.
"Do you think you could give me a fair fight?" the hero asked, ignoring the question the villain had given them. "I know I can't beat you, I just...I'd rather go out fighting, you know?"
The villain considered that for a long moment, gaze flickering between the trap and the defeated hero in front of them. "You think I will kill you?"
"Well, yeah..." the hero said.
"Who told you that?"
The hero blinked, that same look of confusion crossing their face once more. "I mean, Superhero always said that--"
"Superhero is a liar," the villain interjected. "I'm not a murderer."
"But you won't let me go," the hero challenged.
The villain paused.
"No," they agreed. "I won't."
"Well then--" The hero held up the chain holding them captive, though their eyes held no hope over the endeavor. It wasn't a chance they were asking for, it was a final moment of dignity. "How about that fight, huh?"
The villain hummed, kneeling down and reaching out, the hero ready to pass them the chain only to feel the villain's arms wrapping around them and holding on tight - they sucked in a breath, shocked; the sudden touch overwhelming. A moment passed, then another, and the villain refused to move. The hero struggled, tried to push back - kicked and punched and flailed and yelled - but the villain never gave in. In their hold, the hero started to shake, that mass of emotions they'd been pushing down now surging forwards with a fury.
"God," the hero said. Their breaths were sharp and uneven, their lower lip trembling as they stilled. "You really are a villain, aren't you?"
The other cracked a smile. "What gave it away?" they asked.
Slowly, the hero let their arms wrap around the villain's shoulders, their hands scrunching up the fabric of their cloak - clinging on for dear life.
"You did the one thing that could make me cry..."
