I Am Muslim - Tumblr Posts

Not to be political or anything

But here's what needs to be said rn about Islam

The hate people hold in their hearts for a religion they do not understand disgusts me.

They blame my holy book for genocides. They blame my people for the persecution of women. They blame my people for everything that is wrong with the world.

My religion did not create prejudice. But humans did. Humans like you.

My religion is not just a terrorist group. Just like how not all Protestants are part of WASP organizations.

You condemn our women for covering head to toe to show their devotion to God, yet that is not valid in your eyes. But when a Catholic woman, a Sister, does the same thing, it is valid.

Is this because most Sisters are white? Do you only excuse devotion when it is with someone who has the same skin color as you or speaks the same language as you?

My religion does not hate your religion, nor does it pressure us into killing non-believers or non-Muslims.

Those people who excuse their inexcusable actions with my holy book, are not holy. They are not Muslim. We do not claim them.

It's a religion of peace.

It's in the name.

The translation of Islam into English is 'peace'.

When I greet someone, I say, 'Asalaam wa alaikum' meaning 'peace be with you'.

How is that different when in Catholic churches, a Father or a Pastor says the same thing to the Church-goers? What do you say in return? 'And also with you.' We say, 'Wa alaikum asalaam.'

There are so many similarities between all religions, why can't you see that?

We want to educate you on our religion. We want to learn about yours. Your beliefs are just as valid as mine. Why do you hate me so? I am taught to love and accept no matter what, why can't you?

You tear the hijabs off my sisters, you beat my brothers in the streets, you spit in our faces, call us slurs. You tear our countries apart, you bleed our people dry, you pump every last drop of oil for your own benefit...

And you ask me

To smile

And say

Thank you

Because these things happen, right? And they'll continue to happen.

That is the price we pay

For living in a world that is no longer our own.
