Will lays against Mike’s chest, feeling his steady heartbeat and trying to match it with his own. He’s not quite grounded, but coming back slowly, becoming aware of himself again. He hears Mike’s voice guiding him back to the world and feels the tackiness of sweat and tears on his skin. A hand (Dustin’s) gently rubs his arm and there’s another one (Lucas’s) on his shoulder. It’s quiet in the bunker, just four best friends helping one of their own recover. Will takes his time, breathing with Mike and focusing on the sensations and love surrounding him. His body is weak and exhausted, but he’s safe.

He blinks slowly and the world comes into focus, his best friends’ bleary eyes welcoming him home. They notice Will’s lucidity and gently fold him into a tight embrace, shielding him from the monsters both inside and outside his mind. He burrows into Mike’s shoulder and falls limp under his friends’ soothing weight, body succumbing to the adrenaline loss. The boys smile at each other. They’d do this a million times if it meant Will never suffered alone.

oh how i absolutely YEARN for a scene where the core four (dustin, lucas, mike, will) are all together and comforting will after he has a ptsd episode or whatever else. and it's just. a very quiet moment of them resting their hands on will's shoulder or just hugging him close, saying that he's okay, that it's okay. not invalidating him, not saying he's weak. just being understanding because only they REALLY know the full extent of everything he's had to go through (from lonnie to the upside down) because they've been there since day 1. and it's just. a cute quiet moment of boys being best friends and comforting one of their own who is suffering a great deal, because that's what the party does - they show up for each other. and they love each other so, so much.
