I have also played in the Empire games and specifically made "stab-safe" spears are quite regularly used. Personally I don't believe even those are not that safe to use, and there's a reason why even those "stab-safe" weapons aren't allowed in other UK systems. (I am UK based so slightly biased)

As someone on the smaller side, I expect to regularly get bruises from events from fighters who use a lot of personal strength behind those weapons and if shield bashing was allowed I would be terrified to go onto the field for my irl safety. Shield bashing and spears were extremely efficient but in a game space safety really matters - especially in larger events like Empire when there are a wide variety of skills and individuals.

My larp has certain rules to protect the players during combat and one of those is even with larp safe weapons you aren't allowed to stab.

Which is bullshit because that's what spears are for and why the dominated the battlefield.

The second rule is you can't "monster" someone aka use your irl strength and capabilities against your opponent. Meaning no shield bashing and such.

For those wondering we use the Empire LARP system that was made in England.
