He feels like a ghost to you. Any given hallway you might find yourself in alone is always a hallway filled with two. And yet his footfall is soundless, his breath nonexistent. There is not enough of him to create a shadow, or disavow your imagination of fanciful thoughts.

A war of assassins is underway and Chevalier has been forced to play one of his most valuable pieces, in your favor. Until you decide the next king and make yourself scarce from the castle, Lucian is to be your protector around the clock.

But who is he?

You've only ever seen him once.

On a moonless night inside the chapel he bent the knee to you and promised his oath. Quiet, nondescript words in a voice like water that no memory, no matter how perfect, could ever clasp onto and soak in. And that is by design. To do his job well, Lucian cannot be allowed to exist.

So what does that do to a man?

"Lucian?" You whisper into the twilit alley as you board your carriage. "Are you here?"

It makes no sense, does it? But it makes no difference either, if you whisper or shout (not that you've ever screamed the name of your secret protector out loud for all to hear).

Lucian is not supposed to answer. If he answers, then something has gone terribly wrong.

A pair of crows barter past your feet. The rainwater reflects something on top of the carriage. But when you turn to look, you're only met with wide, vacant sky. Red with no black.

Later, back at the castle, when your head hits your pillow and the last of the candle-smoke pirouettes into the dark, you find yourself holding your hand out over the edge of your bed.

You have five more days before the rose sheds all its petals. Will you get to thank him before then? Shake his hand? Feel a pulse?

Again you think, you're being absurd. You're fascinated with the idea of him, but that doesn't change the fact that you don't know a single thing about him.

Only that he must have killed people. Many. Countless. Killed them so quickly that the air and the earth never tasted a drop of blood.

Chevalier is bladed spectacle. Lucian is something else.

But if all you know about him is that he is a killer, what in the hell are you doing chasing after him?

Two nights later you find out.

The blade never touches you. A cry in front of you is muffled and cut short. Something heavy slumps to the ground. Something wet seeps over the flagstones. The smell. You'll never forget it.

A hand takes yours, and then you're running. There's scenery, and eventually there's people again, but all you can register is the body lying dead in the alley and the warmth against your palm, without which you'd be...

...You don't have a word for it. Your mind is pulling apart against itself, and there's worms in your stomach, knotting around your intestines like laughter coils around a tongue. There's bits of flesh tucked into every thought you think.

You can't run anymore. You need to stop. You need air. You need help. You need something to make you sleep.

Someone is holding you.

Your sobs come out as soundless, choking breaths.

Someone is holding you.

It's only then you realize that Lucian has a shape. Tangible beyond the hand that severs a life. That saves the one next to it.

There's enough space within his awkward embrace that the winter chill finds you everywhere it shouldn't. You're dully aware that part of his arm is muffling your mouth.

It's not like your tears will echo.

The humiliation is endless.

Lucian. Of course. He's always just been a dream of yours, to occupy you during this anomaly of a month. You designed him. And that Lucian is not here. That Lucian exists even less than the one holding you.

And holding you.

And holding you.

And then he says, in a voice meant for your memory, for you a day from now, a week from now, ten, twenty, fifty years from now to recall, lovely in how it sounds, lovely in how it sits outside your dreams but ignites inside your heart:

"Take your time."

A few things about Cyril Rose, Chevalier Michel and Lucian

I was always curious about Chevalier's behavior towards Cyril, especially after Lucian was introduced as the covert and the royal guard later on for Chevalier. The question in my mind was, if Chevalier really trust Cyril to become the lead knight of the foreign affairs faction, then would he ever call him by his name? The post is based on Chevalier's election promise party event

Spoilers and facts about Cyril (and a few about Lucian) under the cut!

After obtaining Chevalier's Early Clear Bonus from this party event (promise from 2nd anniversary/election):

The story was in his POV and fully voiced (meaning that his thoughts and dialog were voiced, except for a few lines of narration).

But from this story, we are able to see a few sides of Chevalier that we never saw before, nor did we hear him talk about. Including Cyril Rose.

The story starts with him training with the knights, before "killing them" as he said after knocking them out. And it ends with Cyril being the only one standing. From the Mc's POV, Cyril could keep up really well, but Chevalier kicked his sword. In Chevalier's POV, Cyril actually got distracted, else the battle would have continued.

This whole training thing was never something that Chevalier would have done, but he feels the need to show off in front of Emma.

Back to the topic, while training and inwardly praising all the knights, who were able to keep up so much longer against him, Chevalier thought of Cyril.

And while thinking of him as Clavis' knight, he also acknowledges his name!! The same way Lucian's name is acknowledged, meaning that it's written right on top of his job in the castle:

Translation:

Chevalier's thoughts: 'Usually, I leave the management of the knight's to Clavis and the red head (Cyril),'

So he does, indeed, acknowledge him with his name. Conclusion: Chevalier loves to "make fun" of others with these nicknames (more like he points out what describes them XD). Lucian is also called the long black haired royal guard (Since Chevalier is the king, Lucian is the royal guard).

A few things for Cyril:

In the party event story (previous discussion), it shows how much more familiar the knights are with Chevalier and how much more they are scared of Cyril (as their master in training). Chevalier told them to run 100 laps around the castle, making the knights complain about it (with no fear towards him). Translation of the moment:

Knights:"Hyahhhhhh.....100 laps!?"

Chevalier:"Even if I'm showing the losers mercy?"

Cyril:"Thank you for your mercy! Everyone, keep your mouth shut!"

When Cyril told them to shut their mouth, they all stopped complaining and run out to train

Before that, Chevalier admitted to Cyril that out of all of the knights, he would be the only one standing at the battlefield. And not only that, but he told him to make sure to withdraw if something goes wrong and return to the castle before he dies. He also said that he should help and save as many of those around him, leaving Cyril at a loss but he was quick to agree with Chevalier.

Thank you for reading this far! This event was truly enjoyable and definitely worth to get the ECB. A small flashback of Chevalier and Clavis is also in there, but in Chevalier's thoughts.

Chevalier was drawing Benitoite in huge detail and Emma was watching in amazement, before she complimented him. Chevalier thought that he never payed attention to drawing before, but he once tried it, because Clavis made him draw to find a weakness, but Chevalier knew how, so Clavis threw a tantrum when he saw the finished project.

And of course, after he finished drawing Benitoite, he drew Jade and gave attention to the huge greenhouse, because it looked like it came out of a fairy-tale, so he knew Emma would love this the most.

Although he finished with the drawings, gave them to Emma after she asked to keep them, knowing that all he was doing was useless and had nothing to do with their lessons, he still asked her to draw something for him.

(Keep in mind that Sariel doesn't give Emma lessons as much anymore, it's mostly Chevalier when he is off of work).

Emma drew roses, books (Chevalier's thoughts were that this was a rose garden with her favourite things), and in the end, she added added tiger! And Chevalier took the quill pen from her hands to draw a little rabbit too. He started praising Emma a lot and her expressions changed a lot, so he laughed very hard at her (his thoughts were that he never laughed this hard in his whole life).

Hello everyone! This is my first poll! I decided to make 2 posts with facts about Cyril and Lucian (separate posts for each character), so I wanted to ask:

The King's Royal Guard (a Lucian snippet)

Hair a midnight black that shimmered with deep blue tones in the gentle light of a setting sun. You catch only a glimpse before it has disappeared from your sight again. Like a spectre in the night, you see him only in your peripherals, a shadow of a man, even more silent than his master. But in the moments you've stolen with him over the past several months, you know his handsome face is comprised of sharp lines and fiercely deep amber eyes. They can drown you in fire without a single word uttered from those perfect lips. His body is lean, and his muscles are pulled taut over fair, unblemished skin.

Each dip in his torso is accentuated by shadows, and although it looks cool to the touch, it burns hot when he presses down onto you, shrouded in the shadow of his long, straight locks. His breath scorches your neck as he sighs into your embrace, filling you to the brim while he works to release the tension from his body. A finger slips between your lips so you can suckle instead of moan; the silence must not be broken. You must not be found. Discovery would lead to a swift end to your midnight trysts, something you were not sure you could live without; not after sampling the sweetness of the forbidden fruit that is your king's royal guard.

Happy Hour w/ Cyran and Lucian

Cyran: I just realized something

Lucian: Don't say it

Cyran: Why not?

Lucian: I don't know. I just have a bad feeling

Cyran: But you've realized it too, yeah?

Cyran: That your outfit looks a lot like my boss's, and my outfit looks more like your boss's?

Cyran: I wonder what that means

Lucian: It means nothing. It means that we go to the same tailor. I need tight pants to do my job

Cyran: What about all those belts?

Lucian: I don't have that many

Lucian: Like 7 or 8

Lucian: That's normal

MORE LUCIAN SPOILERS (Chevalier's event story, sweet end)

Lucian sounds a lot like Cyril, because he is also speaking about his story with Chevalier.

Lucian tried to kill Chevalier many times but failed, and his client was very mad at him. So he sent people after him to "shut him up", but Lucian was already deadly wounded by Chevalier. (Lucian was a child and Chevalier a teen. It was at that time when Chevalier used to talk more than he does now XD)

As Lucian was burying his peers, he lost consciousness and when he woke up, he was at the court's infirmary. Turns out Chevalier carried him there.

When Lucian asked why, Chevalier told him he did it because he found him down.

Chevalier went like: "It seems your client no longer loves you" but he told him to not worry, because he (the client) already left the world. When Lucian asked if Chevalier did it, Chevalier asked "who else is there?"

And Lucian asked why again. Chevalier said that no assassin who goes after him comes out alive, which means that he (Lucian) was "expensive", but he also came out alive, even though he was fatally wounded by Chevalier

And Chevalier included the fact that he wasn't scared

Chevalier:"You don't want to lose your owner and remain a stray right?"

Lucian:".........."

Chevalier:"I'll take care of you"

I have even more, please forgive me🥲 This has to do with the abuse Chevalier went through from his mother, so please remember the trigger warnings: name calling, blood and injury

Lucian was given a "collar" by Chevalier, but Lucian, after being betrayed by his client, he didn't trust anyone including Chevalier, so he wanted to try him out.

But it was the worst period possible. Chevalier's mother was at the verge of mental collapse and she only had her maid by her side (Clavis' mother)

Flashback:

Little Chevalier:"........."

Previous queen:"No......don't come, don't come!"

Maid (Clavis' mother):"Your highness, please calm down!"

Previous queen:"Because of you! Everything went wrong because of you!"

Previous queen:"Keep out of my sight! Never again! Don't show your face, you monster!"

Little Chevalier:"........"

Maid:"Please no! If you throw a vase at Chevalier-sama——!"

Little Chevalier:"Ngh........."

Maid:"Chevalier-sama! There's blood.....I'll call the court's doctor now!"

Little Chevalier:"Don't make a fuss, it's just a scratch. More importantly, stay away from it"

Then the queen understood what she did and Chevalier asked her if she was satisfied

(To ad in this, in his Epilogue, he took Emma to a hidden place in the garden, where the kings and queens of Rhodolite would have secret rendezvous, but Little Chevalier used it as his safe space after every fight with his mother)
