Brain hurt, have rant. Rant not made to offend anyone, just me complaining because I can and my autistic ass can’t understand stuff.
Okay, here’s the thing that bugs me about the rottmnt fandom so much.
Why, oh why, are the turtles all darker skinned when Lou is very clearly a light skin tone.
I’m not against this headcanon, it just makes my brain do a confuzzle.
Let’s break down how the turtles happened.
-basic turtles, with no human dna involved.
-Lou gets kidnapped. Note he probably hasn’t had human contact in years.
-Lou’s dna is added to the mutagen.
-turtles get mutated, Lou’s dna making them more human.
Now, dark skinned Asians is a thing, I acknowledge that. However, having four kids of dark skin tones when their only source of dna is from one parent, it doesn’t add up at all.
This function can best be compared to asexual reproduction in animals. When an animal reproduces on its own, without any other animal or intercourse involved, the dna and genetic makeup of that offspring should be near identical to the parent, with very little room for genetic mutation to take place.
In this scenario, Lou/Splinter technically reproduced asexually, meaning if the turtles were human, they would look uncannily similar to Lou Jitsu in his teen years.
“Oh, but what if he had the genetics for it?”
Unlikely. We see both lou’s mother and grandfather, and both of them are of a lighter skin tone, extremely similar to Lou’s own. Meaning, the chances of it happening aren’t impossible, but extremely, extremely low.
With the circumstances of the turtles being literal mutants in the genetic and sci-fi terms, it isn’t impossible for one of them to have a darker skin tone. But all four of them just does not add up. And Leo having albinism in some headcanons doesn’t make sense either. Two mutations at once really shouldn’t be able to happen (as far as I’m aware).
“Oh, but what about the racist undertones of raph’s ride along?”
Raph, if human, could easily fit the role of a delinquent, or rebellious teen. A lot of people give Raph tattoos while human. Tattoos aren’t exactly awesome in Japanese culture, (as far as I remember, correct me if I’m wrong) and are sometimes a sign of gang activity. We are not told how old heinous green and the mud dogs are, so they could be in similar age or full on adults. Plus, part of the whole gag of that episode is the cops of the hidden city are fucking morons. If Raph is indeed being racially profiled, it’s more on the terms of Japanese culture than American. They’re literally called yokai, the Japanese word for monster.
Okay rant over, feel free to correct me in the comments or tags or reboots or whatever.
