ok quick rant post.
*HUGE TOA SPOILERS BELOW*
i just saw somebody say jasonâs death was poorly written.
i mean this in the most respect way to those people saying that jasonâs death was meaningless and carelessâŚdid we read the same book?
first of all, it was not anticlimactic. It wouldâve been unexpected for me if i wasnât spoiled. he quite literally went out with a bang. he made a gigantic tornado/storm to pretty much single-handedly fight an emperor. i mean, no one around him was equipped or ready to fight. he was doing so good, but he knew he had to die anyway. he mightâve tried harder if he hadnât heard the prophecy about him or piper dying. my point is, he did not seem ânerfedâ or ânot powerfulâ, apollo was really impressed by his skills in his narration.
i saw somebody say they didnât it like it because he had so much potential. thatâs the whole point though!!! many tragic deaths are brought to life by an unkept promise or something they couldnât carry out before they died. all of jasonâs storylines were going to lead him somewhere great, but of course it couldnât go like that. rick riordan pretty much put in that whole part with apollo and jason talking about his promise to the minor gods to dangle that in front of us. to emphasize how tragic his death was.
people say his death was only for apollo/lesterâs character development? i donât agree. i mean, yeah, that was a huge thing that came from it. throughout the rest of the books, he tributes his growth and actions to jason. but i donât think that was the only reason for it. i saw a great post by @a-cup-of-coffee-and-the-moon about this. go check it out here, but basically they say that was it inevitable (they go to say it was because he went against zeus, and the greek leaders had a history of their sons overthrowing them). even other than that, it developed the storyline and the whole trials of apollo series in general.
ok so maybe that wasnât quick. but still. i hope i proved my point. i am a huge jason defender and i just hate when people comment on his death like this. heâs dead, guys!!! thatâs just like pooping on his grave! ok, but seriously, we need to end the jason death slander. i feel like some people see something they donât like and come up with reasons as to why it shouldnât have happened and why it was weird that it did. i mean, yeah, i didn't want him to die, but iâm willing to accept it and respect him.

Viserys was the real problem all along
some people genuinely think the war would have been avoided if viserys married laena. as if it would have solved much of anything at all.
you think corlys velaryon is seriously going to be okay with his grandson getting overlooked for rhaenyra, any more than otto was? this is a man for whom legacy is everything. he definitely wouldn't have gone the same route as otto, but he wouldnt have just taken that lying down.
you think daemon wouldnt have still tried to trap rhaenyra in marriage? and perhaps succeeded this time with no otto around to bother being all up in their business
and then if that happens you've got the issue of daemon being the future king consort and how the lords thought that was bad enough even when rhaenyra was an adult woman with heirs from a previous marriage. let alone her being a 19 yr old girl instead in this scenario. they encouraged viserys to name her in the first place because they didnt want daemon anywhere near the throne. literally no one but viserys and rhaenyra likes or trusts daemon. you think corlys wouldnt have seen him as an even more genuine threat to laena and her children than otto did alicent and hers... with daemons child set to be rhaenyras heir?
the war was set in stone from the moment viserys decided to remarry at all. literally all anyone else did was shape the way it happened.
