When Topher stays with Joan and wakes up in the middle of the night to smoke, he throws on the first article of clothing he finds on the floor. JFK comes out on the balcony to check on him and they have a heart to heart about how everyone though Topher committed after he left Exclamation. This is their first interaction in 10 years besides an awkward hello

I imagine the JFK loses his speech impediment with age and that's ny explanation for why he does it less frequently in s2.
In 10 Years Later, when Topher and him have their heart to heart, he does it for the first time in years. Being around Topher is uncanny and sends JFK mentally back to high school. Think Bill from IT being in Derry again and his stutter returning.
