All I wanted to do was draw Gillion, now there's an elaborate au built around it.
Say hello to the Twisted AU. It's like normal riptide but everything is more twisted. It's technically a villain au, but not really.
In this AU Gillion's upbringing lead to him being egotistical and kinda narcissistic. He's still hero of the undersea and all that jazz, but think like selfish celebrity, Yeah, he'll donate to charity, so long as he's still rich and gets the spotlight.
In this au Gillion is much more selfish, helping people until it inconveniences him. He's obsessed with his appearance and uses magic much more targeted towards charming and controlling people, so that others do his dirty work for him. He's also much more sadistic, drawing out deaths to get the full bloody glory of it and hurting people for the hell of it. On the flip side, he hates getting hurt. Not because of the pain, but because the blood might stain his clothes. He still has that oath against lying, but he's much more willing to stretch that oath to its limits. It's not lying if he's acting. It's not lying if he doesn't say anything.
Don't be fooled though, he isn't the only messed up one in the au. Gonna have to do Jay and Chip next.

Chip, or as I like to call him, Mr No-Morality, is, as his nickname suggests, pretty much apathetic to everything. Everything he does is for a laugh. To him, life is a game and he's in charge.
In this au instead of doing his best to continue on and find Arlin, Chip just kind of accepted life. He's a lot like Price in this au, but less openly evil, and more just looking to prank someone. Although, prank is a bit of a tame word for the things he does. He knows that life is cruel and intends to make sure that everyone knows that. He doesn't need to plan ahead to know that whoever got in his way will regret it.
Chip is somewhat more mature in this au, if only to save his own skin. He still left Price and burned down the place, but this time it was more because he wanted to go on his own and decided to leave a message of "Don't fuck with me". This time his great journey wasn't to find someone, he just intends on fucking with people as much as possible. He can still do magic, but it's no longer fire based, instead his spells and swords are more targeted towards the necrotic side of things (not that he can raise the dead, he's not THAT good at magic).

Twisted! Jay, She's here!
Jay was hard for me to figure out in the au, because I can't imagine that she'd act very differently. So I decided that she wouldn't be changed very much. I think the biggest difference is that she's more selfishly smart. Don't get me wrong, of the three of them, she is the one with the most actual morality! But a lot of her morals are basically just drilled into her from her navy training. She has a view of good and evil, and she's fully aware that the crew of the Albatross tip more towards the evil side.
In this au she immediately told Chip that she was a spy, because she pretty quickly figured out that if she betrayed him, he would kill her. So instead she decided to take the brutally honest take with him. Jay in this au rarely, if ever, lies to Chip and Gill. This quickly builds trust with them. It also means that she's the one who keeps them from just murdering people. She often tries to do the moral thing of saving people, and roping Gill in on it too.
Just because she's the goodest of the three, doesn't mean that she's a good person. If things are going wrong she'll do her best to save her own skin. She's so honest with the boys as a tactic to keep herself safe. In this au, Jay while honest, is very cautious and kinda closed off, no she won't lie, but she doesn't go out of her way to talk or share things about herself. In fact, she does her best to not piss them off. She is still a spy after all, even if they know about it.
Are you planning on writing a fanfic about your twisted riptide au?
While I don't currently have plans to write a multi-chapter fic, I do plan on writing oneshots! One of which I am currently working on, however I'm not the fastest writer. I'll make sure to post a link to it when I do have it finished and up on ao3.
Made a one-shot for my twisted au that takes place right after the B.L.O.C.K. Where all the skrunkles are morally fucked up.

What was their dynamic at first? Like, how did Chip react to being told Jay was a spy? How did Gillion settle with being under a captain??
Chip was honestly pretty chill with it. Jay joined and was immediately like "hey, btw I'm a spy" and because of her open honesty from the start Chip was like, "Okay, cool. Here are some ground rules and things you can't tell people, but everything else is free game"
I think Gillion really didn't like Chip. Because like, Chip acts like he's the shit, and Gillion who's only experience ever is being the center of attention was not okay with that. He'd openly disobey Chip’s orders and was a total asshole to him. Chip thought it was funny and knew that Gillion was powerful so he mostly let it slide.
However Jay and Gillion really got along. Jay is already used to dealing with Chip, and in her mind Gillin is too dumb to be manipulative, so that makes him easier to deal with. She also has military experience and morals line up pretty smoothly with how the Elders thought. So to Gillion she was pretty familiar.
It wasn't till after the duel that Gillion actually started considering Chip as a friend and also valued them both as real human beings and not just props.
