...that your audience won't hate.
This is a method I started using when NFTs were on the rise - thieves would have to put actual work into getting rid of the mark - and one that I am now grateful for with the arrival of AI. Why? Because anyone who tries to train an AI on my work will end up with random, disruptive color blobs.
I can't say for sure it'll stop theft entirely, but it WILL make your images annoying for databases to incorporate, and add an extra layer of inconvenience for thieves. So as far as I'm concerned, that's a win/win.
I'll be showing the steps in CSP, but it should all be pretty easy to replicate in Photoshop.
Now: let's use the above image as our new signature file. I set mine to be 2500 x 1000 pixels when I'm just starting out.
Note that your text should not have a lot of anti-aliasing, so using a paint brush to start isn't going to work well with this method. Just use the standard G-Pen if you're doing this by hand, or, just use the text tool and whichever font you prefer.
Once that's done, take your magic wand tool, and select all the black. Here are the magic wand settings I'm using to make the selections:
![...that Your Audience Won't Hate.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/650481545c789d6032cfba414347dcc6/2e790dc21c0f9c57-95/s250x400/2083997aa4c942fdfd67a6677795d7e7c11b1236.png)
All selected?
![...that Your Audience Won't Hate.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/1a3b1f4086b08b5788109b31f72ed6f8/2e790dc21c0f9c57-95/s500x750/077f39560f00f675b32ac2ed3c11835d875d949d.png)
Good.
Now, find a brush with a scattering/tone scraping effect. I use one like this.
![...that Your Audience Won't Hate.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ab2d19e96c237ea8863dc72d4875981e/2e790dc21c0f9c57-ba/s500x750/19408938e6c0e72580a0887effb1f9e634b5585d.png)
You can theoretically use any colors you want for this next part, but I'd recommend pastels as they tend to blend better.
Either way, let's add some color to the text.
![...that Your Audience Won't Hate.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b62e617ddca76ab18fef18962df8584d/2e790dc21c0f9c57-c5/s500x750/51b1e1f509fc1fba550ca22ac922c2d9ede2cc34.png)
Once that's finished,
You're going to want to go to Layer Property, and Border Effect
![...that Your Audience Won't Hate.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4564461eee43bd8f45767b24a913426f/2e790dc21c0f9c57-16/s250x400/d0078ac8ed40d1e507344a51a3f12ee7f4a71baa.png)
You'll be given an option of choosing color and thickness. Choose black, and go for at least a 5 in thickness. Adjust per your own preferences.
![...that Your Audience Won't Hate.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3e63c731ed15eb54f7aa7757a5e96f0f/2e790dc21c0f9c57-d2/s250x400/bc56973b3fa559fac0cfd8933dd243dc4b4c5647.png)
Now create a layer beneath your sig layer, and merge the sig down onto the blank layer.
![...that Your Audience Won't Hate.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b2e17122ca2d65c9117fe0178e2c6748/2e790dc21c0f9c57-b7/s250x400/7ed5b0de35045f05d4465976f107f7281f552920.png)

This effectively 'locks in' the border effect, which is exactly what we want.
Hooray, you've finished your watermark!
![...that Your Audience Won't Hate.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/84a44e422b80e4404b9171bed699697d/2e790dc21c0f9c57-72/s500x750/47e848e518176c964d6d1f842436c3c8bad055c1.png)
Now let's place that bad boy into your finished piece.
![...that Your Audience Won't Hate.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4bbe4ac4d21f1e9b2993d8d5fde7f9bb/2e790dc21c0f9c57-da/s500x750/e18ab4caee666bd8ee97bd968c322a0bb2305358.png)
You'll get the best mileage out of a mark if you can place it over a spot that isn't black of white, since you'll get better blending options that way. My preference is for Overlay.
![...that Your Audience Won't Hate.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/64bf888de4314bd178f681a3e929bd0c/2e790dc21c0f9c57-36/s250x400/c997b24cc9afc670085cb10fdec5329fc530fa9d.png)
![...that Your Audience Won't Hate.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ce238b0fadc3d28cf9e9942fd0f6e38d/2e790dc21c0f9c57-14/s500x750/a038374296b02a276648e577824770c620334963.png)
From here, I'll adjust the opacity to around 20-25, depending on the image.
![...that Your Audience Won't Hate.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/167ddd64ced399afbb2e8f8045f7d01b/2e790dc21c0f9c57-48/s500x750/55d5d61b904b7225edd8144adf34eb6b7827fbcd.png)
If you don't have a spot to use overlay, however, there's a couple other options. For white, there's Linear Burn, which imho doesn't look as good, but it still works in a pinch.
![...that Your Audience Won't Hate.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/0733921cbcb9a651f0a7775404ae1558/2e790dc21c0f9c57-19/s500x750/fff322886610291dbbe36c5e4f711100573e3cb0.png)
And for lots of black, you have Linear Light
![...that Your Audience Won't Hate.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/fe1857b07c7b620242c8735a80dbb318/2e790dc21c0f9c57-0f/s500x750/3c87856177468f044cd497d1cb8a7a87a7484d32.png)
Either way, you're in business!
EDIT since this has escaped my usual circles, and folks aren't as familiar with my personal usage:
An example of one of my own finished pieces, with watermark, so you can see what I mean about 'relatively unobtrusive'-- I try to at least use them as framing devices, or let them work with the image somehow (or, at the very least, not actively against it).
![...that Your Audience Won't Hate.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/d55511ea1cfab5310c25b1be51a0fbbc/2e790dc21c0f9c57-ae/s500x750/14ee9a07fb033bf2c6c18953ba52a140a902c268.jpg)
I know it's a bummer for some people to "ruin" their work with watermarks, which is part of the reason I developed this mark in particular. Its disruption is about as minimal as I can make it while still letting it serve its intended purpose.
There's other methods, too, of course! But this is the one I use, and the one I can speak on. Hope it helps some of you!
![This Fake Yarn Is Supposedly Better For Sheep.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/34ed4c3015072091e5a8936eaa9b265c/tumblr_pkpwp2EfUZ1qgnd5go1_500.png)
This fake yarn is supposedly better for sheep.
Aimed at people who don’t know where wool comes from, it’s 100% plastic. Yes, plastic.
So any garment you wash will release microfibres into the sea. It’ll never decompose.
You’re supposed to believe that sheep shearing is violent and cruel. There are imbeciles out there that work in an unprofessional manner while shearing, but that’s not the case overall.
Sheep don’t suffer from having their fleece removed.
Left on, the fleece can become a home for fly eggs and the subsequent maggots which can eat the sheep. Chemical treatments are available to prevent that happening. It’s much better for the sheep, the land and the farmer to avoid chemical use.
Don’t be fooled. Wool is a sustainable material, one we should make more and better use of.

So I'm sure almost everyone knows about the porn bot problem by now, so here's a post detailing why it's a problem, and what we need to do about it.
First off, yes, always block the porn bots. Don't be mislead into thinking they're ok to keep around because they 'inflate your follower count.'
Firstly, no one cares about, nor can anyone even see, your follower count. Be free from the shackles that are the bullshit other socials told you was important. Don't let your ego be tied to a number. Having a lot of followers won't earn you any clout here.
Secondly, bots only follow blogs to try and legitimize their malware (and other dodgy) links. This post goes into more detail about that.
Now that that's out of the way, you'll need to know how to recognize a porn bot. This round the template seems to be:
A profile photo of a pretty lady or guy, usually in their underwear, with a similar header photo.
A bio with some combination of: [Age] // [Name] // [Location] // [Emoji] // [Top Bullshit% OnlyFans]
URL consisting of a name followed by a number (i.e: firstlast999)
Typically an empty blog, or if there is content, it's all dodgy links. Visible, but empty, Likes Tab, & occasionally a visible Following Tab.
You likely recognize the pattern.
So, what you want to do is, first, report the blog as spam On mobile it'll look like this:

On mobile you'll need to report spam first, and then go back to the menu again to block.
On desktop it will look like this, and unlike mobile, you'll be able to report spam and block in the same motion:

If I remember correctly,* be sure to "Report Spam", not "Report sexually explicit material" to feed the bots to the proper channels. Because the blog is empty, they haven't posted anything explicit that would violate TOS. However, staff can recognize a bot, and if you report the blog for spam (the actual problem) they'll take a look, more than likely find that the blog is posting or DMing dodgy links, and dispose of it.
And I think that's it. Here's wishing you all a happy and safe blogging experience!
[UPDATE: It was suggested on another post that the bots track your IP if you click on them to send more your way. However, someone from staff corrected and said this is incorrect. They also corrected the 'guilt by association' myth that bots following you can get your blog flagged by tumblr.
That said, that trail all led to another, easier, way to report/block the bots all from your Follower Tab instead of visiting each blog separately, unfortunately it only works on desktop:
![[Shut Off Last Version Of This Post To Avoid Possible Continual Spread Of Misinformation That Was Corrected](https://64.media.tumblr.com/afbe48862799a1dcc9aeeb4520acf29a/88c197b19c41a75c-c3/s500x750/802b68e8c4ef352d9544cec47dd92e2dce4b7062.jpg)
(For newbies, click on the little person icon at the top right of your screen and scroll to find the Followers tab under the blog/sideblog you need to block a pornbot from.)
*I remember this information from a blog that used to be all about taking down the pornbots. Unfortunately I do not know if that blog is still active, nor can I remember the URL. If anyone knows what blog I'm referring to, and/or if they're still active, please feel free to tag them so others can follow them for more tips!
