Okay. So we know that the maulers have like two different species/races, yeah, or something like that? And that somehow the male/more masculine characters tend to be basically just anthropomorphic animals, yeah? And typically that the more feminine or the female character only have ears and a tail, and how that’s weird, right? Like how, besides Rhys, all the guys have animal heads and the women have human faces?(sexual dimorphism, I assume.) This led me to a few different reasons for this(actually just one.)
Rhys is a trans man(only male mauler without, y’know, an animal head, and he hides his face behind a mask to cover this up?)
like I’m not the only one who sees it, right?
also, the races or species of the dark forest are also a little confusing. There’s people with animal features, which is the majority, and then there’s people with just elf ears(Parisa, for example).
And then there’s the two odd ones out; Kafra and Florabelle. Florabelle has a stronger floral design than anyone else in the forest. I assume that either she’s another elf, or a sort of flower nymph and that all of her students are also flower nymphs, considering that they don’t have pointy ears. (That, or for elves of the dark forest, their ears grow with time.)
but then what about Kafra? His design doesn’t fit in with the rest of the wilder designs we’ve seen- we’ve seen goats, rabbits, foxes, and dogs used as animal traits for the people of the dark forest, but not to the extent of Kafra.

Like, his design varies significantly from the usual designs.

Like. Very different. However, you know what he does look similar to? Maulers. Kafra(the name means village, btw, and originates from the Middle East, and it seems Maulers are based off of animals that survive better in deserts, like fennec foxes, lions, and rhinos.)
my personal headcanon is then that Kafra is half-mauler and half-wilder.
