off they gooooooo

look at this Krimble

Today Cosmia did her first real flirt pole session, and it was crazy to see how much her methods differed from Shoko’s. Shoko is calculated and focused in her own way, but Cosmia you can tell is a true hunter.
Everything about her movements, the intensity in her gaze, the way she held her head low and trotted with purpose, watching her I really experienced that feeling of wow! This is what this dog was bred to do. Few things are more impressive and captivating to watch than a working dog doing it’s job.
This has just reinforced my conviction to find out a way to take the girls hunting. I wish I knew the first thing about it.

Good morning from the Couch Dogs!
This is Cosmia's half-brother! He's my favorite from Shizu's new litter. So glad he's with @crispbean and can't wait to meet him!

Jude got to meet my friend’s new Kishu Ken puppy. Kishu are a rare primitive breed of Japanese boar-hunting dogs who evidently pack a lot of attitude despite being about 45 pounds when fully-grown.

Cuchulainn is a red Kishu Ken out of Kishin and Shizuka from Hakuzan Kennel in Colorado.

I think I’m going to start posting on here regularly again.
The main reason being, we’ve added a dog to our household. His name is Hatsuharu, and he’s a 5 month old Kishu Ken.
Those of you who’ve been around for awhile (and haven’t forgot in my absence) remember Cosmia, my Kishu Ken. And you also probably remember how I just... Stopped posting about her one day and didn’t explain it.
That was mainly because it was hard. I had gotten both Shoko and Cosmia with my partner at the time, and when we split up, I tried to take both of them. But eventually it became clear that Cosmia would be happier and better taken care of with my ex.
Fortunately, we’re on really good terms, and Shoko and I still see Cosmia regularly. It’s also very clear that I made the right choice, as hard as it was. She is so happy, well taken care of, and bonded to my ex and his kids. It’s really amazing to see how well she’s doing, and I’m so happy for her.
And the beautiful conclusion to this story is Haru. Part of the benefit of being on good terms with my ex is that I was still able to follow through with my plans of breeding Cosmia and helping with the preservation of the Kishu Ken. This past fall she had a litter of four puppies, and Haru was one of them. I wasn’t originally planning to keep him, but lack of interest combined with how much I adore him ended up making the decision for me.
I also would like to do as much as I can for the preservation and promotion of the Kishu Ken. Which is why I’m going to start sharing my adventures with Haru (and Shoko!) on here. Kishu are still not very well known in the US, while Shikoku seem to be steadily growing in popularity. With likely less than 75 individual Kishu in the US, it’s difficult to create diversity and generate interest in the breed. I’d love it if Haru and I can help spread the word.

Tried to get a good picture of them together, but, uh....

Honestly? He looks good there

Working from home today with the best coworker 💕

His new leash arrived in the mail today so I tried in on him, and now he’s convinced we’re going for a walk any minute.

Rainy day naps~

Just like his namesake, Gem is certain that he is the Most Lovable.
