Preview: Of course Sophie wants to look at Fitz and remind him his mind is safe, and then turn around and tell Fintan he’s blinded by his guilt. Of course she wants to be disgusted at Gisela for what she did to Keefe and then assure Linh that the ogre city deserved to be destroyed.

Broken Minds: Guilt, Memory, and Consequence

Part One: INTRODUCTION

Depression and PTSD, along with other mental issues, manifest in the elven world just as they do for humans, but with deadlier consequences. Canonically, memory breaks and broken minds only have two causes, and only three to four characters have had their minds broken. As of Stellarlune, there are no broken minds that the audience knows of, all of the others being either healed or dead.

Minds can break in two ways: externally or internally, with externally coming from forced memory breaks, while internally is the result of guilt, and manifests in a way that is easier to hide or brush off. Internal breaks can result in the typical comas, or in the more subtle impulsivity, anger, and irrationality that plagues many members of the main cast.

Fintan, Alden, Prentice, and arguably Brant have been broken and healed or killed, but their experiences with memory breaks and guilt don’t even scratch the surface of the true range of mental issues faced by elves.

Okay so a thought entered my brain

We all know about the wanderling woods and the process for the elves honoring their dead, but like.

What do they do with the bodies?

I don’t think it’s ever mentioned, but I could be totally wrong. They talk about using their hair and a wanderling to make this beautiful tree that takes on the traits of their deceased, but what do they do with the actual bodies?? If they bury it beneath the tree there’s no point to wrapping it with their hair, because you could just put the seed inside their cadaver and it could grow from there. I don’t think it’s ever mentioned, but like I said, I could be totally wrong.

Let me know if y’all caught something I didn’t, because I’ve never noticed this before.

Another thought entered my brain

So in the real life human world we have a birth defect thing called Stahl‘s Ears, which, if you don’t know, basically gives a child elf ears. I have a silly kotlc theory that shouldn’t be taken seriously but is interesting.

Atlantis. Pre human-elf fallout. There’s gotta be a few half human half elf babies, right? Sure, we don’t know how elves reproduce, because ages 8-12 and all that, but it’s gotta be at least really really close to how human reproduction works because otherwise doctors would’ve found something weird about Sophie when she was born.

So hypothetically theoretically human-elf hybrid babies could exist.

Which MEANS that maybe Stahl‘s Ears could be a genetic mutation passed down from ancient ANCIENT times when humans and elves could be together. Maybe we’ve got 0.04% elvin babies out here with genetic mutation elf ears.

Anyway like I said it’s unserious but yeah

BUT THATS JUST A THEORY

A KOTLC GENETIC MUTATION HUMAN ELF HYBRID THEORY!
