Laguna - Tumblr Posts

I’m just like Laguna. I remember things better when I write them down. That’s why I have tons of notepads scattered throughout my home.
Also I wear glasses.
Also also kudos to the Techno Trolls for inventing water-proof paper.

Some of my favorite screenshots from The Snug-a-lug episode of Trollstopia. Laguna and Branch team up with Gust and Val to watch over Lownote Jones’ exotic pet, the snug-a-lug. A critter that can literally kill through kindness. It reproduces asexually by hugging!

So, I accidentally let my teacher take away my awesome in-progress vase before I could snap a picture, but here's a quick shot of the planning sketches and the pattern for the final design. I also made a pretty terrible pinch pot (newsflash: I'm impatient), which I might just turn into a jellyfish.
Next week, assuming I'm not at Comic Con, I'll get to finish the vase and maybe even glaze those three weird vessels I made last week. And we might start using the potter's wheel. I expect to suck at that pretty tremendously.
Laguna, 2 hour class

Class today! I finished forming my vase (the one I posted sketches of last week), and now it's ready to be fired. I also glazed one of the trays I made the first week, but it hasn't gone to the kiln yet so it still looks pretty messy. The weirdest thing about glaze is that it comes out of the bottle a totally different color than it ends up. At the moment, my forest-green-and-brown vessel (I still haven't figured out what to use it for) looks red and gray. Weird! I took a few pictures, but I think I'll just post the before and after shots next week when I see the final result.

I was all stoked to pick up my first glazed piece only to find out my instructor is a lazy bum and didn't fire anything. Rats! But to make it up to us, he let us try the wheel today. This bowl/vase thing is the first thing I made. Not too bad for a first try, right? Well, I guess technically my first experience was the Pocahontas Pottery Wheel my parents got me as a kid (which I begged for, then discarded), but I'm willing to overlook that if you are.
This one is going to be a mug, I'm told:

My first glazed piece! I'm really pleased with the way it turned out. No idea what I'm going to use it for, but at least I finally have something to show for myself. Today was my last class before the big trip, so I glazed everything else I've made up to this point so I can collect them all when I get home. Hooray!

I'm back from vacation! I had a really great three weeks visiting friends in London, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and NYC, and now I'm glad to be back home in my comfortably dim apartment. Hooray!
Today was my "last" day of class (I have to go back at least twice more to pick up two glazed pieces and one more that hasn't been fired yet), so that meant I had a bounty of finished pieces to take home. Above, check out my finished two-prong vase (I heard they used it in the art show while I was away) and a couple of crappy bowls and trays. If anyone wants anything, by the way, I'd be happy to share.
Below, a new mug (it'll be vivid orange after it's fired) and a small pot for my mom's Egyptian room. (Don't look if you want to be surprised, Mom!)

Hooray, we're in the studio! I spent the better part of my Sunday listening to the Beatles and coating a headless, eight-year-old boy in Vaseline. See?
Because of all the time I spent unpacking the 8,000 boxes of puppet-making supplies we ordered from Burman, I didn't get as much done today as I would have liked. But I did make the first half of the boy body mold (this week I'll finish the mold and hopefully pour some latex before the weekend), and that's a start.
Here he is after a layer of hydrocal:
And after the first half of the mold is complete:
