Ok!! so this was requested by @girlboypersonthingy , who wanted hcs with Lance and a gender-fluid/non-binary s/o who feels like he’s kinda pushing them aside/insignificant to him!

Ngl I had a little trouble writing this, so I hope i was able to execute this well!

You and Lance have built a really strong relationship with each other

Despite Lances’ initial confusion, he was quick to understand that you didn’t identify as one gender

He’s SOOO supportive of you like this boy would do anything to keep you feeling comfortable in your own skin

But it’s the little things he won’t truly understand, like how clothes never seemed to fit in the right places, or the weird feeling that would rise in you whenever you unknowingly compared yourself to another person

The latter seemed to happen more often though as the boy spoke with others around him

The flirty grins he’d send the girls he met, or the playful comments he would make that were different from the ones he would tell you

Was it just you or did it feel like you guys were growing apart?

It made you begin doubting if Lance even liked you in a romantic sense

Was it because you weren’t like the girls who would return his flirty grins with a sweet smile?

Were you just not good enough as you were? Did he have a preference for a specific gender?

Doubts and insecurities began gnawing in the back of your mind the longer Lance kept up his playboy act

Why didn’t he hold your hand? Was he afraid to be seen with you?

Should you were more feminine clothing? Even if there were days that you didn’t want to?

Lance began noticing the small changes in your appearance and mood though

The way you began wearing a little more makeup, the way you began curling in on yourself whenever there was a girl around

He grew suspicious of your behavior but decided not to say anything, thinking maybe it would pass

Finally after a couple of days of you avoiding him in the halls of the castle, he decides to just ask you what’s been bothering you

“What uh, what do you mean?”

He would start listing all the stuff he’s noticed about you and this entire week, which makes you feel even more worse once you hear how obvious you had been

You would get frustrated and finally just spill it all out

It’s hard for you because it really does feel like your showing a part of your soul, it makes you feel vunerable

“I can’t be like those other girls Lance! I just feel like sometimes you would prefer if I were just a girl or just a boy, but I cant.”

It’s like the whole world stops for him because is this how you truly felt?

After you both talk it out for a while, it still takes some time for you to feel fully secure in your relationship again

Lance does everything in his power to assure you that you’re the only he wants

When you’re feeling a certain way and want to be referred to a specific pronoun, he’s 100% supporting you no matter what

Fully believes that your gender, or uh lack of gender, doesn’t define your relationship

This was a very different concept I’m used to writing, but I’m always down to try new things! I feel bad for taking my time on these requests but i can’t stop procrastinating, habits die hard💔 BUT ENJOY THIS‼️

Your friends had invited you for a night out to have some fun(woohoo) which you were initially going to decline

But at the sound of their late night adventures being at a drag show club, it immediately caught your attention

Never had you been to one and it really intrigued you, so you almost begrudgingly agreed to the night out

Once at the show, you settled with your friends in a table never the center of the room, lowkey kind of excited for the show to begin

You watched with joy and amazement at the many drag queens who made an appearance, laughing at their jokes and following the crowds “ooh’s” at suggestive comments made towards someone at the tables

You were just having such a fun time, excitingly waiting for the next person to make their entrance

The next drag queen was announced

“Everyone give a loud welcome to our final queen of the night, Lance!!”

The crowd cheered so loud as he walked out, sharp eyes immediately sweeping through the crowd

You watched with wide eyes at the strong presence Lance gave out, different from the other drag queens

Heat rose to your face though once his eyes caught yours, never straying as he began speaking to the crowd

You had to double back to see if he was looking at someone behind you because DAMN

THE INTENSE EYE CONTACT WAS STARTING TO MAKE YOU FLUSTERED😭😭😭

You caught his eyes in the full crowd, smiling when he saw you turn around quickly and then face him back again

Seeing your nervous eyes meet his interested him, he watched as you began playing with your hands

He was interested in you🫣🫣🫣

He performed a short dance number, enrapturing your attention ever since he walked on the stage

He made his way across the crowd afterwards, flirty comments filling the air, some people giving Lance the same energy back

When he passed you though, he glanced towards you and gave you a flirty grin, almost as if he was saving you for last

Finally making his way through the room, he makes his slow trek towards you, heels clacking loud with purpose

You literally knew he was going towards you because ain’t no way he’s giving you this weird energy and he wasn’t going to address it💀

You watched as he stopped right in front of you, giving him a nervous smile

He smirked, he literally SMIRKED

“This your first time darlin’?”

The way your face heated up gave you away immediately, causing you to drop your head into your hands

Hearing the crowd laugh at your action, Lance could only chuckle in endearment at your reaction

“It’s not every day I see someone who catches my eye, do I make you nervous?”

The way you began stuttering was so embarrassing, you just wanted the ground to swallow you whole

“N-no I mean, maybe a little? You’re just s-so gorgeous a-and hot! I mean-“

You could only groan in embarrassment as you blew your shot, so much for trying to keep the same energy

“A beautiful person like yourself shouldn’t have their head down.”

You literally felt like passing out when Lance tilted your head up towards him, face so close you could see the glitter and faint blush coating his eyes and cheeks

“Meet me backstage.” He whispered into your ear as you got closer to you, hand traveling down your arm and into your hand

Completely in a daze, you didn’t even hear the loud cheering and whistling from the crowd as Lance strutted away back to the stage, his heels sounding much louder than before

Your friends giggled at your state, teasing you as the drag queen walked away, hearing their comments caused him to smile

Cue to the end, your friends ushered you to head towards the back, hyping you up as you hesitantly walked away

The stage crew members guided you to Lances room, wishing you luck which caused you to begin second guessing yourself

Maybe he was joking when he said to meet up with him?

Before you could turn around and run away, the door swung open abruptly revealing the person you were so nervous to see

Lance gave you a smile, open his door, inviting you in, almost giving you a choice to leave or enter

You felt your face heat up as you walked around him and into his room

His walls were filled with picture frames which you took notice of

His room overall looked like it came from a movie, feathered costumes and decorative pieces placed sporadically around the place

“So about what you said earlier, do you really think I’m hot?”

“No! Wait no I meant yes! You are hot, i meant to say yeah I think your hot!”

You debated just walking out before hearing Lance’s laugh filling your awkward silence

“I like you. So flustered.”

You awkwardly laughed, he was so attractive holy damn

You noticed he still had his stage makeup on despite the show ending a while ago

“Were you waiting for me?”

Now it was Lance’s turn for his face to turn red, causing you to smile as he looked away in embarrassment

“You were taking a while to get here, I didn’t want you coming in while I was cleaning up.”

You smiled at him before taking his hand and leading him to his chair in front of a mirror

You shuffled around, looking for makeup remover and cotton pads and setting them up in front of him

“I can help you clean up while you tell me more about yourself!”

You sent him a grin and watched as he gave you a smile of his own

Hey so how do you think the paladins would deal with a crush who is not an idiot and is an amazing friend, but they can’t read the room romantically at all. Completely have to be the one to confess or be kissed or straight up ask on a date. They literally just think someone is being nice or kind and blink cluelessly if someone mentions that was flirting and they’re like “What?!” Even when told, they still don’t pick up on someone’s hints. This kind of conversation probably happened with crush: “Oh yea, I know I’m clueless. Someone could slap me to tell me they liked me and I still wouldn’t get it”. If one of the paladins does slap or nudge crush right after this, crush is like “ow! What was that for?” And it doesn’t click for them what just happened?

Keith is the type to be lowkey when asking someone out but if you unknowingly kinda reject it, he would feel awkward afterwards

Someone has to tell him that you’re hella oblivious or he might lowkey think you don’t like him the same way he likes you

So most likely in this situation, Keith is gonna tell you straight up if you don’t get his small hints

Super bold, like he’ll take your hand in his type of bold

When you leaned a smidge to close to her face though when looking over data on her small screen, Pidge had a mini heart attack

I feel like Pidge thinks you’re aware of her attraction towards you with how flustered she gets when you hold her hand and how she stutters a little when you two are alone

But you thinks she’s just a shy person!

It gets to a point where Pidge can’t function correctly whenever you’re around so she thinks confessing her feelings for you will make her feel better

So she gets help from hunk to set up this romantic confession date for you, just to be the nail in the coffin

While you think it’s for someone else when you arrive, Pidge reassures you that it’s all for you

It warms your heart knowing she spent her time doing this for you, seeing the small paper hearts strung around the room making you slightly blush

She’s way more confident in telling you her feelings, explaining everything, from how you make her nervous to her romantic interest in you

You get the message and bear hug her, explaining how you thought she was scared of you

You guys then eat the small sandwiches prepared for you by Hunk :DD

He doesn’t realize you don’t know his obvious crush on him

Hunk thinks he’s being super obvious with how he badly flirts with you, or makes you a spectacular meals compared to the others

Or how he always offers himself to be your partner during split missions, or even the way he looks at you with such a SOFT LOOK

LIKE THIS DUDE CANT BE MORE OBVIOUS WITH HIS CRUSH

But you don’t even notice😭😭😭😭

Shiro would offhandedly mention how sweet Hunks crush on you is and you’re like what😀 crush??

You’ve seen how nice Hunk is to other people for as long as you’ve known him, so you just think that’s what he’s doing with you

You never fail to let him know how much you appreciate everything he does for you tho

And he’s internally screaming at himself to make a move before you friendzone him one more time

After a push from Lance, Hunk has the courage to ask you out

But you just smile at him and say you guys can hang out whenever! A big smile and everything

And he’s about to take it, friend zone and all, until Lance glares at him from the distance

He has a lot of patience when he’s explaining what he really meant. So while you’re trying to wrap your head around how Hunk likes you, he’s just all red in the face

While he does find it adorable on how oblivious you are to his attempts, my guy is actually starting to get nervous about you not liking him the same way

She doesn’t do this with ANYONE, so it surprises her how you believe the somewhat romantic gesture is only a friendly gift

Hunk

Ok starting strong, I feel like Hunk would at first be kinda happy and relieved?

He’s happy that his s/o is experiencing such an amazing and special bond with the yellow lion

He realizes that the bond the lion and you have is actually much stronger and different compared to his and he just like

He would try and show you how to pilot yellow, only to see how natural flying is for you

He’s happy for you!! You begin taking the lion out on missions since it’s much more responsive with you

For him, it feels like that big responsibility of saving the universe has been lifted off his shoulders and he can finally relax

But those feelings slowly leave him once he notices just how out of loop he is with the group now

Hunk is a very reminiscent person in my opinion so I feel like Hunk is gonna start missing the yellow lion😭

At one point Hunk is going to feel left out💔

With no lion to fly, Hunk is stuck in the castle, maybe helping Coran with stuff, left to do whatever he wanted

And the thing is, Hunk wants to fly yellow again! As much as the pressure of being a paladin of Voltron got to him at time, he misses all of it

Hunk misses the feeling of excitement when flying his old lion, he misses the interactions he had with the other paladins during missions, he even misses the battles that happened more often than not

In general, Hunk misses being the paladin of the yellow lion

He’s grown to love the life of adventure that was bestowed upon him, but he feels like he can’t tell you any of this

Of course he’s supportive of you, but he can’t help the empty feeling growing in him whenever you excitedly talk about how amazing a particular mission went

How yellow revealed a new ability when in battle

For him, it feels like everyone is moving on while he’s stuck in the past

Lance

Lance wouldn’t want to believe that you had a stronger bond with blue

What originally was him showing off his lion turned into you becoming the new paladin of the blue lion

This dude is in DENIAL

if he’s flying blue or red, this dude would still not believe he got dumped twice

When he tires flying blue and it doesn’t turn on like in that one episode, he is absolutely devestated

And it makes you feel really bad in the beginning😭 he doesn’t make you feel bad about ‘taking’ blue from him, but anyone can see how it affected Lance

It gets to a point where neither of you fly blue, so when voltron is absolutely needed during battle

Lance has to hype you up

Even if he’s still sad and upset about no longer being the blue lions paladin, in this moment, Lance is literally the only one who can encourage his s/o to fly the lion

Like he would lowkey be emotional, but him encouraging you to fly blue is like his final goodbye

Not in a forever type of way but goodbye to the paladin stage of his life😭💔

Lance tries not to let his mood affect your learning curve when flying blue

It’s still a touchy subject for him, but he always manages to smile and congratulate you with any new progress you make

He always asks how blue is, if there’s anything you need help with. And as much as you understand and feel for your boyfriend, it gets to a point where it feels like he’s too concerned for the lion

With all the extra time he has in the castle, I feel Like Lance goes through this existential crisis😔

Was he just a place holder for the blue lion until you came along? Did he even belong in the team anymore now that he was essentially useless to everyone? Did anyone even notice his absence in the group? Did he even matter to them?

He doesn’t fly a lion now, he doesn’t know how to work any of the Altean tech. His bayard was now yours. The most he added to the group was small comments here and there during debriefing meetings

I think this would put a strain in y’all’s relationship lowkey

It feels like Lance is pulling away from you and you can’t do anything but watch as he walks further away from you

I think he might even consider asking Allura to send him home, back to Earth

Yeah Lance would REALLY go through some stuff if his s/o would take over as the blue lions paladin😔

Keith

I feel like put everyone, depending on which lion Keith is currently piloting, he’d mostly be pretty ok with it

If he were still piloting the red lion, I think Keith would be more aggressive to his s/o, always pushing them to train longer and nitpick at their flying😭

He’s not used to watching from the sidelines, so he’s lowkey trying to fly red through you (like come on bro)

BUTTT

If he were piloting the black lion and it so happened to choose you as it’s new pilot, he’s immediately stepping down as leader of the group for you

I feel like he would try convincing himself that he’s doing it for you because there’s obviously a reason why you were chosen

But deep down inside, he’s just using that as an excuse to get away from that stressful role

We all know how Keith was when he first began as the leader of voltron and even when he was a part of the blade of marmora

He would be the most relieved and ok one out of everyone if you were chosen to fly his lion

But because he would step down from this role so quickly and spend most of his time with the Blades, this would leave you in a very frazzled state

Like you thought your boyfriend was gonna show you the ropes of flying the black lion

Teach you how to tune in with it, get better at flying general

But now you’re just struggling to lead the team as the new leader, feeling confused and stressed the longer you fly the black lion

And Keith wouldn’t even know because of how often he’s out on missions with the blades💔

This puts a BIG strain on your guys relationship, something that Keith is once again clueless on

Pidge

Like lowkey, i have no idea how Pidge would react to you being the green lions new, chosen pilot💀

I think at first she would believe it’s a joke but once she realizes that only you can pilot the green lion

She kinda just zones out

Pidges world freezes since she’s technically been replaced by her s/o

She knows she should be happy for you, excited that you get to experience what she has with flying the lion but she just can’t

She would probably feel like she lost her important purpose in life

Y’all remember when Pidge had that flashback of her father telling her she was gonna be apart of something amazing? Something that everyone would step back and admire?

Yeah, that memory flashes through her mind

I think she would feel like she lost something so important, and she kinda did. She’s no longer apart of the group bringing change to the entire galaxy, and she’s suddenly back to square one

She’s back to just being a normal person who so happens to be traveling with Voltron

Pidge would give her s/o the cold shoulder for a while, and not even realize it😔💔

But the positive thing to come out of this situation is that she’d be able to focus of creating and building new tech

It would be a comfort thing she would retreat to if she gets sad remembering she’s no longer the green lions paladin

Shiro

We’ve already seen Shiro get replaced by Keith, so I’m like pretty sure it would be the same deal with his s/o😭

It’s a complete shock when the black lion responds to you, like no one was expecting it

Everyone was so used to having Shiro lead them and be the leader of Voltron that it’s hard to maintain that same energy when you become the new paladin

Shiro would have mixed feelings about the situation

He’s gotten so used to being on top of things and leading with confidence

But now that you’re the new paladin and leader, Shiro’s forced to sit back and watch from the sidelines

It lowkey makes him a little anxious now that he can’t be with the team whenever on missions

You already know this man is gonna be constantly looking over your shoulder😭 as much as he wants you to grow and learn to become a leader, he can’t help butting in from time to time to try and lead the team

And at first you’re ok with it cuz!! You’re HELLA nervous being the black paladin, so having your boyfriend ‘guide’ you is such a reliever

But when you actually try to make plans and be Voltrons leader, Shiro is always there trying to speak over you

It’s like when him and Keith were getting used to the change in paladins for the black lion

It becomes a problem when you both start butting heads and lowkey arguing in front of the group whenever having mini meetings

Shiro unfortunately can’t sit by idle, he still feels likes it’s his responsibility to lead everyone even though he’s no longer flying the lion

And you respect that, you really do! But having someone constantly doubt your own decisions really does have a negative effect on your relationship

This would also cause the team to kinda choose sides

Some might trust you, others might trust Shiros judgement better

This really does put a strain on everyone, should they listen to the ex paladin who led them for so long or put their trust in the new lions paladin?

I think he would also lowkey try to reconnect with the black lion😭 he feels guilty about it but he just wanted to see

Wanted to see if this was how things were going to be from now on

his cheek settles on your chest, a lopsided grin stretched on his lips. he lets out a big content sigh. no pillow in space nor on earth can compare to your body, it felt right, perfect even, to cuddle with you. he bemoans your attempt to leave his grasp.

it isn’t completely out of the ordinary for him to pull a stunt like that on you. a flair for the theatrics must be encoded in the mcclain dna. still, a part of you presumed his ill state to tone it down but it didn’t, it appears to intensify.

and it left you feeling disoriented, to say the least.

the blanket he carried from his room drapes over your body and his. it nearly slaps you in the face if it were not for his quick reflexes saving you. while the moment felt heavenly to him, you sadly couldn’t say the same. you were reading a novel allura had recommended when he came waltzing into your room, demanding your attention.

he can be a lovable headache at times. knowing the ins and outs of his personality for years now, you sigh, there was no way of fleeing this. and as easy as that, you’ve come to terms and accept you were wedge into this position for god knows however long he wants.

"too late, gorgeous." lance winks, flashing you a sleazy grin. not a second later, you watch his face contort then let out the most egregious sneeze.

you cringe.

observing him, you notice he looks worse for wear. he really should be resting in his room, not here braving the chances of infecting you. hunk and coran will have a field if that ever happens, you thought, snickering to yourself as you picture butting heads over earth versus altean remedies.

your expression soon changes when you hear the man atop of you whining over his current state and how ‘un-pretty’ he feels because of it.

lance didn’t actually expect a reply since he did have a habit of talking to himself out loud and yet it didn’t stop him from doing what he did next. suddenly, he stares up at you, the frown and puppy eyes combo, silently questioning you if he does appear as bad as he believes.

“no matter what you look like, or how you feel, i will love you the same.” twirling the strands of hair on his nape, your little ministration affords as a great distraction from his irrational thoughts.

“you mean it?”

“more than ever.” you firmly nod, earning a prolonged “aw!” from him topped off with a messy kiss on the cheek.

the moment was ruined after he pulls back from your touch and scowls at you. “hey… wait a minute… you didn’t answer my question! that mean i do look ugly.”

your boyfriend babbles on and on, playfully scolding you for ‘lying’ to him. you puff your cheeks; surely, he’ll tire himself out sooner or later, you note. any time now, his voice begins to slur until it becomes incoherent mumbles then emerging into low snores.

facing down your chest, you find lance already knocked out. the tiniest of smiles paints across your lips. this was the most peaceful you’ve seen him in a long while. you recently notice how the current turn of events started to take a large toll on his state of mind.

he loves to play it off, pretending it didn’t hurt him. he never takes it to heart, making light of grim situations for the sake of preserving the team’s spirit. it warms your heart to finally see him at peace; even though it might be at the expense of getting sick or a stiff neck later, he deserves it.

keith kogane

whether keith liked it or not, he had to reveal his vulnerable state if he wants to get better. his ailment wasn’t too major to place him back in the healing pod, it wasn’t too minor to brush off and leave him to his devices either. coran already gave him medicine to combat the flu he caught for pushing his body too far on the last mission.

even though it worked, the effects left him feeling loopy and speaking out of turn. thankfully, it didn’t spark up a fight, or an argument, despite he and lance getting into a short back and forth.

when asked, the other paladins were incline to help in these situations. it was only right since they are a team and it was expected they look after their own. nonetheless, keith’s stubbornness made it more grueling than it should’ve been. they would’ve plead shiro to try and change his mind but he was preoccupied recovering from his own injuries.

you were the last resort.

hunk, pidge, and lance know he has a soft spot for you. the chances of him saying no to you were low regardless of his adamant refusal to let anyone see him.

“are you still with me? …hello? keith?” using your free hand, you wave across his face to get his attention. ever since you return to his room from the kitchen area with the soup hunk prepared for him, he’s been acting out of sorts.

“i’m fine, i’m fine! you don’t need to fuss over me.” his voice sounds gruff. to his dismay, he falls into a short coughing fit a beat after he finished his sentence. your eyes bore into his unimpressed, as the tips of his ears turn pink.

he was grateful you didn’t comment on it.

you place the bowl in his hands. “here, eat this then go take your medicine; i’ll be changing your wound dressings when you’re done.”

one… two… three… you grab the spoon and press it against his lips. he was taking too long to move and the soup was getting cold. you manage to feed him a couple scoops until he takes the bowl from your hands and ate on his own. you snicker. you’ve never seen the red paladin so self-conscious before.

keith lowers his head further to avoid your watchful eyes. he didn’t want you to see the color on his cheeks.

once he was done eating, you hand him his medicine. he makes a face. you ask him if he wants you to help him with that too and your remark forces him to take it without another word. reaching for the first aid kit, you find him on the verge of dozing off. the side effects must be kicking in, you’ve got to make this quick.

“you’re pretty,” he mumbles, focusing on the feeling of your touch while you apply a slather of ointment on his arm then wrap it with fresh gauze.

were you always been this gentle? he wonders if you behave this way around the others too when they were sick or hurt. an heavy sensation weighs on his chest over the thought of you treating someone who isn’t him.

“you’re only saying that ‘cuz you’re delirious,” you argue, as you pack away the supplies.

keith shakes his head like a child persistent to prove he was telling you the truth. “no, i’m not! i’m being honest. you’re… you’re beautiful.”

silence dominates the room.

not knowing what else to say, you stand up to give him time to rest but his hand extends out to hold your wrist. you look down and find him staring at you, pleading for you to listen to what he has to say. “stay with me… please? …or until i fall asleep at least.”

you couldn’t say no to him, not when he looks at you fondly like that. with a sigh, you nod then take a seat on the side of his bed. his hand not so subtly trails down and intertwine with yours. his thumb rubs lazy circles on your skin until you felt him stop and hear light snores behind you.
