Etho went to Scar to get a life for Bdubs
Yes it was mostly out of fear and self preservation but that’s not the point, he went to Scar on his own to get a life without telling Bdubs
Not to mention he was the boogeyman, he didn’t even need Bdubs to attack him first, he could’ve taken him out himself if he felt that threatened, but he decided to save Bdubs instead and kill someone else, just like Bdubs saved him that first night

literally going insane over how loyal and kind impulse was until the fucking end and grian still only learned to be cold and have no mercy because it's all starting to look too much like something else he's already Been through. impulse followed him but didn't look to him for leadership the way others do. there was no Pressure when it was just the two of them and now he's GONE and grian didn't even let himself fucking GRIEVE because it's already too god damn much. attachments hurt. they just hurt
just thought about the idea that a players corpse doesnt dissapear until the player accepts that theyve died (respawning/going into spectator mode) so if they refuse to go then their body will stay there until they accept it. I dont think theyd decay? just. they stay there exactly how they were when they died.
Now Im thinking about Etho. Etho going on a recon mission with the green team a few days after session 7 and spotting Bdubs still laying against the hill where he died. Of course Etho spots him first, he drops everything in his hands and sprints over to the side of his dead partner. by the time the others see where hes gone he has Bdubs in his arms and hes saying something. repeating it. they all know how the respawns work in this world, most of them having been through it at least once or twice. so when they get close enough all they can hear from Etho is-
"Bdubs. Bdubs let go. its okay just go. its been days you dont have to stay here just go. please please just go bdubs. I cant stand seeing your body here and I wont bury you when I know youre still there so let go. please.. please please just let go."

guess who's having massive brain thoughts about desert duo and the watchers :)
if there's one way to describe grian in 3rd life and last life, it's "always red". we've called him that, he's referred to himself as that, you get the idea. bringing in him being a watcher who chose to join the game... i think the rules of the game just don't affect him as much as they would a normal player, because to some extent he's choosing compliance. he didn't have to follow the life system, he didn't have to play the game at all. so his disposition doesn't change that much between lives. he's only complying with the rules insofar as he has to; he does red-like things even on green, when he wants to.
scar, meanwhile, is decidedly not a watcher. but what scar does have is this unstoppable refusal to follow the rules regardless. scar does what scar wants; as grian put it, "scar doesn't really care about the rules of this game". there's no reason for him to not play, but he continues doing what he wants regardless. he trades, he sells crystals, he hands out reputation points. he teams up with pearl and tells her he doesn't care what life either of them are on. and the watchers don't like that. think about how much bad luck befalls scar, constantly. but he survives, against all odds. over and over again.
the watchers do not like scar.
i think when grian joined 3rd life, he wasn't intending to go against the watchers at first. he tried to enforce the rules, he tried to make scar act like a "proper" red life. but somewhere along the line, as he's planting traps for scar, grian realises it's much more fun to exploit the rules. bend them a little. maybe blow up several people. scar hatches the seeds of grian's defection from the watchers - by the time last life rolls around, grian has sought to do what he can to go against the watchers. he takes out reds without mercy because... that is mercy, arguably. it's better than letting them suffer for much longer.
it's not really too surprising that the two who categorically refused to do as the watchers said ended up lasting the longest in 3rd life, right?
nor is it surprising that red/green alliances were banned the next time around.

Scott laughs beside him— Joel keeps walking up the mountain. The wind lifts his beard into the air. Neither notice how Grian stops, for just a moment.
He glances up at the mountains peak, at the remains of Scar’s home. In the distance, there is a purple cape whipping in the wind. Red eyes stare down at him. A familiar smile sits on the ghost’s lips.
Grian hopes— despite everything this world has taught him— that his ghost is real. And… maybe… that Scar has forgiven him.
For leaving.
For letting him die.
For coming back.
Grian takes another step and continues the trek up Magical Mountain. Scott and Joel continue their conversation, unknowing of the specter watching their movements.
When he gets to the top, Scar isn’t there.
When he gets to the top, he can feel sand under his feet.
When he gets to the top, Grian is home.

Martyn started LL wearing a black Scarf. he wore it constantly until when he heads to visit Ren in his watch tower for the first time, during this visit Martyn gives the scarf to Ren as a gift. Since then Martyn wears a matching White scarf. Ren also never takes the black scarf off! They both wear them until death :]
Scar’s new Last Life skin is just one of those diamond armor Halloween costumes but he drew a six-pack on it in sharpie and you can’t convince me otherwise
