You smell him before you hear him.

Thick, pungent, stifling stench of disappointment fills your lungs, prompting you to put away your computer. It began in your third year at Hogwarts. Prowling the quidditch pitch in your first match against Slytherin, you nearly fell off your broom when you were jostled by chasers. You were mortified to see that by the time you’d clambered back into flying position, Park Jimin had caught the snitch and won the game for Slytherin.

Frozen by the fact that you’d just lost the first game you ever played in, you didn’t hear Jin, your friend and fellow beater on the Gryffindor team, calling for you to fly down. No, you were stuck. Staring at the waves of Slytherins as they cheered and their team flew around them in victory. Something in that crowd made you freeze, although you weren’t sure what it was until you saw him.

Somehow, in the sea of green and silver, you focused on a single face. Mischievous eyes peeked out from under a mop of curly black hair, drawing you in with their own form of gravity.

As a teenager, you had often rebelled against the Elders and their beliefs, defying them by making a vow to one day leave the island and explore the world, to travel across the ocean and witness all the wonderful things that the world has to offer.

But as time continued to pass, those dreams and the passion that you had when you were younger slowly began to wane, and you have simply stopped defying the beliefs that had always been rooted in the villagers’ minds by the Elders for years.
