I know this was frighteningly obvious but my dumbass only realised this a week ago so anyways- yk how maomao mentioned at the end of episode 21 that lihaku doesn't need all that money to buy out pairin since she likes him so the price isn't as steep. and after the end of the season it clicked that the reason for this convention was to prevent another fengxian situation from happening where a courtesan attempts to lower her value to be bought out. idk I thought it was pretty niche that the old granny placed that after what happened. which is understandable.
